Hi, has anybody made their own wedding cake? I really want to as I bake for a hobby but don't want to add unnecessary stress?

If you want to do it then I would definitely go for it. I would definitely do a mock up before hand and I would also look at freezing the cake too and then you only have to think about decorating it a couple of days before. Good luck x

I wouldnt want the stress personally but if you want to then go for it. I would do a trial run though to see how long you need to make and decorate it x

You would need to make a day free two days before the wedding to decorate the cake, the actual sponge itself you could make two weeks before and freeze it as long as its plain.

I'm doing my own one just a 2 tier and I'm going to bake the sponge a few weeks before and freeze it then decorate 2 days before with roll icing

I'm not planning on having a cake (going to have cheese instead) but I think if I was going to I'd do it myself. I'm not too good at icing but I think if your good at baking, doing your own just makes it more special. X

You can buy some fake layers if you wanted more tears and just decorate them. You can use the bottom layer as a real layer to cut. Then bake whatever cakes you like to be cut up and shared out and take these separately. This means you don't need o worry about density of the cakes and making them structurally sound.

We are doing our own one as I am gluten intolerant and other half won't trust any baker to make it due to cross contamination 😂 if it's what you want then I agree, go for it, practice and no matter the result, I'm sure it will look and taste gorgeous :)

I'm going to make mine as we like fruit cake so it can be made months in advance. I'm also making the sugar icing flowers for it as these can be made well in advance. I wouldn't make my own cake if I wanted a sponge cake as they need to be made a day before the wedding and it would then be very stressful

I am making my own cake as I too enjoy baking. From others in my family who have done their own cake they advised me to do a practice round for the whole cake and then when you come to do the actual thing leave aside a whole day to do it - some said they found it really relaxing and therapeutic, but I think you have to enjoy baking in the first place to get this effect! Good luck!

I'd love to make ours but I'm just not skilled enough!
Maybe do a practice one? x
