So I'm thinking of buying my wedding dress I line as we are on a very low income at the moment but still want to get married, so we have a necessities only wedding budget! My family and friends think getting a dress online is a very bad idea and will end badly! Does anyone have any success stories or horror stories!
Hi I wouldn't buy one you could try Wed2b they have dresses from £99 GOOD LUCK :)
I wouldn't get mine without trying it on. Have a look in wed2b for discount dresses x
Ordered mine from Honeypie Boutique and I can't fault it.
Bridal outlets are fab. I got mine there. TK Max also have some good things .
I got mine online and it came perfect. They are so much cheaper and I just thought that if it came and I didn't like it I would be able to get my money back by selling it!
i ordered 3 from ebay. my first one was gorgeous but just wasnt for me when i put it on. my second never turnt up and it was my dream dress so was absolutely gutted. but then ordered another which was an ex display and it fotted lovely was gorgeous xxx
Check out heart brides on fb. They do travelling sales. X
Just make sure it's a reliable site with good reviews and you can return it if you don't like it or it's not what you expected x
Mine came off eBay! In the shop it would have been £1800 on eBay I paid £60 as like yourself we were on a low budget, I went for a size bigger as it had adjustable back but didn't have to have it taken in or up!! Xx
I got one from hong kong for 40 quid in a rage of hating my actual dress. Its was gorgeous other than i underestimated the size of my butt so it didnt fit i woild say look at high street and uk based online first. Anywhere that does prom type dresses tends to have things that pass as a wedding dress in. My dress was 55 from quiz. Only reason i ended up getting a different one was that i wanted to stuff my face with the food and it was a long vintage lace bodycon style so wasnt feasible to eat lots and food was my priority
I would take a look at local groups selling wedding stuff. You can get a fab bargain there
Try wed2be. My dress is gorgeous and cannot believe what I paid for it. No dress there is over £600!
Got mine for 80 quid made to measure from china off ebay best move i made sadly the wedding wasnt
I got mine online from Amazon, it came from China and for what it cost it is more than amazing. My advice is to go by the seller's size guide and if in doubt buy a bigger size. Even with the cost of alterations it's still hundreds of pounds cheaper than any shop. Know one will find anything like mine in this country.
I got mine online from eBay and it was perfect!
There ia facebook group called china dresses success stories. You could go on there and ask brides will show you there dress and tell you the best sellers
I ordered one and now Brides Beware have it as an example on their stand all over the uk along side the real version ...it was so bad they sent a courier to collect it lol but I tried the real dress on and it didn't suit me anyway so it's best to try them on you can get some beautiful sample dresses in bridal shops really quite cheap and there are re loved bridal boutiques also ... if your on a tight budget , from my personal experience it's not worth the risk but these ladies have had good experiences so maybe try the sites they recommend ... Good luck and best wishes x
I bought mine off eBay brand new with tags for £60 it took a few weeks to arrive and is gorgeous just like the photo.
Secondhand all the way for me, no way I'm buying new and no way I'd risk some of the monstrous efforts I've seen from overseas. Also you can get gorgeous ivory prom dresses brand new at a fraction of the price....
I got mine go 40 pounds of asos.. it was a long white chiffon lace dress and beautiful. No one could tell it was so cheap and could always send it back if needed.
Check out asos and other stores for long white dresses if your not fussed on it being a princes style dress x
I got mine off eBay. Cost me £99 and it was perfect.
I think wed2b get there dresses from china! They aren't as good a quality as wedding dress shop dresses!!!
where are you from? the shop where either bought mine from had loads of dresses under £100 as she's in a sale x
I've heard lots of horror stories and success stories but to play it safe is go for wed2b or places like ASOS
My dress is from frock and frill and I absolutely adore it. It's a British company and they do such pretty dresses. Free returns, so I figured if it didnt suit me then no harm!
I would get it from a high street retailer like phase eight, asos, chi chi etc. X
I got mine of eBay and was sceptical but it was what I bought and I was thrilled this was only £90 made to measure from China
I got 2nd hand dress of ebay for £47 including p p. Its a vintage Romantica from Devon gown, could not be happier.. Its got a short train & bought bigger size, so i could have it taken in if needed. Which it does...
I got mine off ebay yes its from china i cant fault it as its absolutely gorgeous and fits perfectly. I habe brought many dress off ebay for balls etc and i have never been disappointed at all. I always check the reviews before buying.
I bought mine on Facebook market place, 2nd hand Mori lee designer for £90. When it came I cried my eyes out. It's so beautiful and not a mark on it.
Personally recommend high street stores. Most do a wedding section. Several white ( if that's what you want ) dresses.
Bridal stores have sale/ samples they will sell too.
My friend bought online. It arrived three weeks before and was beyond terrible, despite good reviews. She is still trying to get her money back!
Don't risk it, if you have to question it, it's not worth the stress/ worry
I got mine on stillwhite.com, second hand at a fraction of the cost x
Look on Facebook
This was from online and its lovely, I'm actually selling it for around £85 if you'd prefer to have one where you've already seen the finished result.
Try the China wedding dress success pages on here lots of positive stories
Also people seem to be struggling to sell dresses some are new so wedding pages on here are full of bargains good luck
I got my bridesmaids dresses online at okdress.co.uk and they are beautiful. They were only £60 each and you wouldnt get anything like them that cheap in a shop. If in doubt order it a little bit bigger so that you know it'll fit or youll need it taken in.
Wed2be are fab. Price range for everyone & they have designers that work exclusively for them, enabling the to have such a range at great prices x
Diydress.uk got my bridesmaids dresses and were lovely and good quality less than £100 each x
I bought on on asos bridal for £180, it is gorgeous, very well made and perfect. May be different if you are going down the China route? It needs an underskirt and will need accessories but still a lot cheaper than even off the rack dresses!
That is made to measure as well
I got mine from a bridal shop told them my situation and they reduced one off the rack for me boo hoo and ASOS also do lovely ones but I would at least try the shops first, heard all kinds of horror stories of Chinese ones bought off the internet xx
Got mine frm ali exppress and it was perfect, just a tiny bit long in the front, £100 and £35 for shortening x
Quiz clothing has just started a bridal range, prices start from about £70, some of them are really nice.
Wed2b have dresses starting from £100 and i can definitely recommend them.
Browse ebay, selling pages, gumtree and charity shops too. Good luck xx
I got mine from eBay 40 n it's perfect fits perfectly n I love it but am having a problem with the bridesmaid dresses n eBay as they were both ordered same time n got different styles sent through returned one n still not had replacement as seller saying they not received it even though I hand delivered it to the place they said x
I'm going to Wed2be they have lots of different styles at affordable prices good luck xx
Try outlets and sample sales first. You can get some right bargains. But at least you know what you are getting too.
I got mine online it was gorgeous x
Cocomelody hun - the reviews and photos from actual buyers are excellent xx
i bought my £2000 dress from
ebay for £400, it came.. fitted like a glove & was everything i hoped for - sometimes you have to take a chance, & with ebay you have a bit of buyer protection if it comes & isn't right :)
Ordered mine online for my wedding in May... ppl thought I was crazy. Dress was perfect.
Since then, i have noticed asos, jd william etc have started doing bridal gowns... all beautiful & very reasonable.
Loads of high street brands now sell wedding dresses for really reasonable prices starting at about £100, sometime under that. Like misguided, Topshop, asos. There were others but I can't remember them, Google will help you x
I'm pregnant so ordered mine on a maternity site. Perfect dress, fits amazing and only cost £150. If you go with someone reputable I think you'll be okay. Just check sizes of course x
Have you considered a used one? There are lots of companies that specialise in second hand and display gowns at a fraction of the cost. Maybe Google possibilities in your area.
My sister got her gown online from china it arrived in the time stated and was just as described. I'm looking currently and may order a dress online but would use a seller with a lot of positive feedback and and good reviews.
I got a £50 one and had loads taken off and altered by my mum. Whole new dress at the end of it removed sleeves and several layers ended up stunning x
My bridesmaids dresses are from eBay! Made by a Chinese company and they are fantastic quality and only £40 a dress
I bought mine on eBay from China and I'm so happy I did I love it so much x
Definately worth buying online mine cost less than £60 with postage x
I wouldn't be able to get a dress offline it's the most important part of the wedding to me
Wed2b are fab plus many local wedding dress shops have sales
I bought mine on ebay from element_dress88 and it's perfect I paid 130 for mine and it was made to measure honestly sooooo in love with it I'm glad I took the chance
Good luck xx
Are you local to Hull at all? This shop has some lovely dresses for cheap https://www.eves-wedding-shop.co.uk/dresses-under-gbp50
I got mine from wed2b after going to many bridal boutiques and feeling deflated my dress is perfect, better quality than some I tried at independent bridal shops and a much more pleasurable experience all round xx
Charity shops you never know what you'll find.
I got mine from China for £65 and soldier it after on eBay for £35
I'm nervous about online, for me I'd rather go to a shop and do it. However I know a few people who have bought online and there's have been exactly as they wanted x
i got mine on a sale in the local sellers shop - it cost about £200 in the end.
ive seen friends get theirs online - and - honestly - it was tacky AF.
one of the dresses was jut waaay too thin.
I bought mine for £99 on amazon and honestly I loved it xx and everyone else said it was stunning :)
Try cocomelody their dresses are stunning and shows you real brides in them
Ordered a dress online payed extra to custom measure and it was perfect. Dress, custom measurements and delivery for £95
So many high street stores offer bridal ranges at affordable prices. Just google high street wedding dress and the returns policy would be much easier vs. Buying from China (if you aren't happy with it).
I got mine in wed to be if you have one close by as the price are good starting at £99 to £599 and the girl are very nice
Try Freecycle sites? x
There are some really good groups you can join on here called CHINA SUCCESS STORIES and WEDDING SCAMS, BRIDES AND COMPANIES TO BE AWARE OF. Also SOLO BRIDAL have a page, they are a trusted Chinese dress maker x
My friend paid £50 on ebay. It was a replica of a designer one she tried on in a shop. It came and she cried - once it was steamed she loved it. All in all she paid around £75 and it was perfect x
I bought mine from Etsy cost my £50 including postage
Take a look at Monsoon, Debenham's, or if you're a larger lady, Simply Be. All lovely dresses and because they are off the peg you can just return it if you don't like it!
Avoid any from China & they try to hide it by putting co.uk ...... Poor fabric & quality , my girlfriend attempted to buy one & it was no good & she had to buy a 2nd one !!
Look at instead Elsie's attic , Lindy bop , chi chi clothing , monsoon , next , debenhams , house of Fraser ....& especially get one in August summer sales !!
Ordered mine on line end of line in moonson
I bought online. A gorgeous gown for a mere £69. My advice for buying online is do it in plenty of time in case for any reason it doesn't work out. This leaves you with time to replace or have it altered. Check reviews thoroughly. Make sure the seller doesn't sell rubbish. Pay by PayPal! This allows you to get a refund easily in case of anything bad happening.
For every one horror story I've seen on these types of pages, I've seen 100's gushing about their beautiful bargains.
I wouldn't buy one online. My sister brought one online when she got married, and when it arrived it was terrible. So then she ended up having to spend more money on a new dress from a shop! Just from her experience, I wouldn't buy online. I feel that your wedding dress is one of the most important parts of your day. Good luck. Xx
I have mine for sale £50 if your interested pm me.
I got mine from JJ's house. It was amazing.
I would recommend going to somewhere like phase 8 or Debenhams or other department stores where the dresses will be much cheaper but you'll be able to try them in and check the quality of fabrics etc.
Ordering online can be hit and miss. There are some really cheap second hand dresses just to give you a second option, I know some people wouldn't want second hand but just a thought. Also some charity shops sometimes get given a batch of brand new wedding dresses, you could maybe speak to your local charity shops and leave your number for if they get any in.
I bought mine online from JJ's house. was fantastic. fitted perfectly and cost £168
I got my dream dress for £35 on eBay, had to do one or two adaption but very happy with finished product and know of will look lovely on the day, am also on a budget second wedding at 60 yrs old xxx

It's always worth trying gumtree- you can go and try before you buy good luck and happy wedding planning x
Thank you for the replies everyone (this was my post!) it's a great help to get an insight into people experiences xxx
Got mine from china. not an issue and fitted perfectly...i was 5 monts pregnant on my wedding day
I got mine for £140 off the internet and loved it, I went wedding dress shopping first to find the style I liked then the site I ordered mine off asked for my measurements and it fit perfectly with a little room to budge either way x
I got my dress from Debenhams for 430 and my sisters was from monsoon x we both loved them x
Most of my wedding came from china. My dress, bridesmaid dresses and flowergirl dress. Ties and pocket squares too!
No one had a clue x
I have 2 dresses for sale £500 each ono one is a my lady alexia dress and the other is a pnina torna
Hi I don't know where you live . I bought my dress for £200 it is absolutely beautiful. i would highly recommend the lady I bought my dress of. she has a small shop in west yorkshire but also has a website: https://www.eves-wedding-shop.co.uk/ All her dresses are gorgeous and cost under £299. also there is free postage on her dresses. She is a lovely woman who is really helpful
I had mine from China. It was a bargain. Same dress in a bridal shop cost £800, then fitting. I got it made to measure for £150 delivered within 3 weeks. No dramas. I gave my own measurements and added some to it, but made sure I had a lace up back so I had some give in it, and it was OK. I won't say the quality was as good as a bridal shop, cos it wasn't, but no one guessed on the day and I felt fabulous in it. Best of all, cos it was cheap, I didn't care if it was trashed on the day or not.
You should be asking for the horror stories too then weigh out how many horror stories there are for every success story. I have a business in the wedding industry and believe me there are so many horror stories. Some do get lucky but a lot of brides don't... Maybe look at a used dress! Due to China copies designer dresses are being bought for thousands then sold for pennies.
I brought mine on ebay from china cost just under £90 and it was perfect all I had to buy extra was the underskirt, just make sure you research the seller first by looking at review's etc.. X
I've heard some horror stories too, but personally I think if you can get a dress online for under £200, you can then have any alterations or modifications done here cheaper than it'd be for a wedding dress from a shop. Best of luck! Let is know how it goes and what you decide x
There is an oxfam charity shop that sells only wedding dresses. I can't remember exact location but you can find it online and they have amazing dresses xx
my dress came from jjshouse and cost £187 and it was made to my measurements. its really good quality as well x
I brought mine online and it was beautiful, it fitted perfect and was comfy, good material and it cost £75 I messaged the seller as it said it had been delivered but it hasn't, they asked me to wait till the next day which I did, I messaged and said Thankyou it arrived and they refunded me the money I paid! I messaged once I noticed and asked why I got a refund but never got a reply :-/ so my dress was technically free lol
I got my dress online from China and was perfect :) Just needed a few alterations as does any wedding dress
Buy something in a sample sale you can save so much money and try them on first xxx
My sister bought online & was thrilled with the dress and the bridesmaid dresses. When my time came I used the same website & the dress was DREADFUL! Then had the hassle of trying to get them to take back & refund, which never happened as they just cease communication & refuse to respond. Was all most upsetting. I ended up going to Wed2b & found a beautiful dress off the peg. It did mean upping my dress budget from £99 to £499, but figure I can scrape a little back by selling it on after the wedding. :-) xx
I bought my dress from Asos. I need it altered but all in all it will cost about £200 for everything
I brought mine online was a complete disaster was totally unwearable an the company I brought it from refused to do any thing about it in the end I ended up loosing all my money and was stuck with a dress that was no good .. Ended up having to start the whole thing or looking for another dress and ended up buying a new one from reloved bridal shop it was perfect !
I bought mine online from Jeca Bridal. I custom designed it, it's beautifully made, and fits perfectly :) Took about 5-6 weeks for them to make it and send it to me and they kept me up to date with emails the whole time. Was also only £200. xx
Look at sales in wedding shops in your local areas ive seen some beautiful dresses for £300 originally £1200 as they are sample dresses good luck x
I have just ordered one from Dorothy Perkins , didn't even know they did them ,it was £150 and the same as £500 ones I've seen in shops , over opted for a tea length retro style as getting married in Cuba , they had long ones as well it's worth a look, was going to get one on line but what put me of was if I wanted to return it the cost £60/£70 pound
sell my wedding.com is brilliant!
