Decoration of venue

Can I ask, those of you that decided to decorate/ dress your venue yourself if you have any advice to give? Anything you forgot or would do differently in hindsight? We are getting married in the UK a modern oak barn and it looks good with minimal decoration but want to make sure I've not missed anything. Thank you!

Just make sure youve got a check list and regularly review it

Don't underestimate how long it takes to decorate!

We made all our decorations and took photos of how we wanted them on tables etc. Our venue then put them all out for us and we just relaxed.

Lots of help from bridal party and make sure the venue is available the day before to dress it! Xx

Take your time. Make a list of thing to take to the venue, the amount of times we had to go home and get things we'd forgotten lol. Lists are essential in my opinion xx

Dressed it all myself too

All they did was napkins and baloons following day

Open everything first and make sure it’s put together. Anything you need to iron. Have lots of scissors, strong string and steps!

I made the most of the sales after Christmas to get fairy lights and the range was great for centrepieces

Fairy lights. Lots of fairy lights. This is the time of year to buy them and places like aldi, lidl or outlet centres have some good deals. Garden centres are also good for random decorations i saw once someone had taken a cheap metal garden arch and covered it in flowers. Ask around for friends and relatives who can lend a hand, my father-in-law has a marbling kit so he said he'd marble letters for our name in our wedding colours. My mother-in-law wants a balloon arch.

Thank you so much everyone, this was my post! I have made a list, including the bits and pieces we need on the day to help. We have planned a lot of family parties, so I have a bag with staple gun, twine, cable ties, sellotape, scissors, emergency glue etc! I had a wedding stationery business, so have luckily manged to use my lovely printer to print my own signs for the wedding, and can do the favours etc. I'm doing the flowers and already have my centrepiece jars etc. I appreciate all the comments - my first thought was that it will take longer than we ever expect. I'm going to ask my nearest and dearest who might be available to help me decorate the day before, and as suggested- i hadn't thought about getting things out of packets and such like to make sure we know its all there/ undamaged etc. so i will do that too. Thanks! Our wedding is July, and as a thank you I'd like to pass on my signs to someone getting married after me, if they would like them. They are floral - and I've done one for pick a seat not a side, one for no cameras during the ceremony, one for leaving a message for the new mr. and mrs, one for the sweet cart, and one for ' we know that you'd be here today if heaven wasn't so far away. pics available if anyone is interested just message me. wedding date 11.07.2020

What I'd do differently, I wouldn't have even bothered to make an effort.
Everyone was so sloshed nothing was appreciated or noticed. Just a dark room with a bar & dj would have been good enough.

Save your money

Give yourself enough time, and factor in breaks for food and whatnot.

If you're using chair covers, add extra time. While relatively simple, they take a while to do (we had 60 chairs to do and it probably took 3 hrs to do cover, 2 sashes and a clasp on each).

Grab as many friends and family as you can get to help you decorate. We had a team going and it really made the setup much more relaxed.

Make a checklist of things you're doing in the venue and pack an emergency kit of things you might need; scissors, sellotape, string etc so you can modify or fix things on the day.

We do have a a company who works along side the venue what will be decorating our venue we care adding small bits that go with our theme of beauty and the beast.

Get help! You cant do it yourself on the day, without stress you dont need xx

UKbride Member 27 Nov 2019

Get all the help you can! The day before our wedding was one of my favourite ever days, all our friends and family helping out and we went to Weatherspoons for tea 😂
