Planning

So we have just booked our Nov 2020 wedding but now we are at a loss as to when to do what? When to buy the dress, when to book the hair? Any tips? X

I don't get married till August 2020 I have booked up nearly everything. If you do it now you get 2019 prices. Do it when you want and do something each month and makes it less stressful

Hi I'm getting married 2020 too. Have sorted venue, special guest, photographer , think I found my dress although it has to be made to my Color I want. Started buying stuff for evening like bubbles. Pic props etc. Dates get booked well in advanced. Start looking and have fun organising

Make sure if you’ve booked the venue, you’ve rang up and booked the registrar! I was amazed that even 2 years in advance, I couldn’t have the time slot I wanted for the ceremony and had to pick a later one! If you’ve paid the deposit then, then that time is definitely yours!

Hi! I’m a photographer and I would definitely advise you to look into booking your photographer! We get booked up super far in advance, I already have a booking for November 2020 so definitely if you have a style or specific photographer in mind then definitely enquire soon! 😊 have fun planning!

I’d start looking for a dress about 8 months before. Depending on what dress you choose it might have to be ordered in, and it can take up to 6 months to come in, then you need fittings/alterations etc! The more time you give yourself for that the better really xx

Book any suppliers as soon as you can - we’re already filling up the diary for next year, and I know some photographers that are already booking 20201!!
(And you’ll generally get this year’s prices if you’re booking now, even if your wedding’s not til 2020/2021)

Dresses generally take 9 months to come in but can take as long as 12. Also remember to allow up to 10 weeks for alterations. It personally took me quite a long time to find a dress so you might want to allocate a few months to finding the one! If you wait until April all the new ranges should be in so you can start having a look if you want but unless you find your dream dress it's probably worth waiting until September ish when the next season's dresses will be in. Bridal shops will be able to advise you.

With hair and makeup I'd start having a look in the summer as the makeup artists should have lots of recent pictures of brides up on their website/Instagram/Facebook pages for you to see their style. If you see someone you like have a trial, even if it's just for a night out, and see if you like their work. If you do I'd book them around 10-12 months in advance as good makeup artists get booked up quickly, although winter is generally a quieter time for weddings. I'd book a hair and makeup trial around 6 weeks before the wedding day for you and your bridesmaids etc. if you're having them so you can get an idea of what you'll look like on the day and tweak anything you're not happy with.

This is such an exciting time and these are some of the most enjoyable parts so make sure to enjoy it and try not to get too stressed! :-)

Look for a dress 1 year before the wedding, order dress no later than 9 months including bridesmaids, hair and makeup book a few months in advance. Draw yourself a wee timeline or mark on your calendar so you know when to start looking for certain things, when to order, when all the payments are due. I've a lovely wedding planner which has everything laid out for me

There’s an app called Bridebook. It breaks down all the tasks you need to do month by month. You can also set your budget and search vendors there. It was a life saver for me cos I didn’t have the foggiest idea where to start after setting the date and choosing the venue lol

Book it all early so you have the pick of everyone. I remember getting engaged in the March and booking my hair and make up straight away so I could have who I wanted we literally spent two weeks after we got engaged booking everything from flowers to cars and then we started on what we wanted it to look like and started on collecting things for the table xxx

Some places you can provisionally book your registrar now so of you can do that, book your venue and just get cracking. We're November 2021 and habe alot of the big stuff booked alreasy and aim to have rest done by end of this year. That way we can sit back and watch the balance owed getting smaller and can relax haha.

2020 seems to be a very popular year. We r getting married in May 2020. And a few things/people we wanted were already booked for our date. U can never be too organised! In regards to a dress, if it a boutique u will be getting it from I would start looking a year in advance and order within 9 months of the wedding. How exciting! Happy planning xx

We only had 9 months between getting engaged and the wedding (next month! Woop!) - Looking at various websites and wedding planners online I was initially a bit worried we wouldn't have enough time to do everything (many have countdown timelines of what to do when) but we have (and have even had some good discounts for booking with just a few months to go). I guess it partly depends what sort of wedding you want. We didn't want anything too pretentious and weren't dead set on having certain suppliers and things who might have got booked out early so it worked well for us. You have LOADS of time to plan it all! Enjoy! :-)

I’m getting married in November 2020 too. Im going to get my dress in October November this year. Ive already booked
Venue
Registra
Photographer
Venue dresser
Sent out STDs
Wedding cake cake pops for favours.
Magic mirror
Signing waiters
Hair and make up
Insurance

I just need to sort out but will be at the end of this year start of next year I will sort these out.
Flowers
Wedding dress and accessories
Bridesmaids dresses and accessories
Suits
Caricature
Honeymoon.

If you want a certain someone/ company to be part of your wedding then it doesn’t matter how early you book them. The main thing is... is that you have booked them and they are coming to your wedding, an not you leaving it to a time scale an them saying sorry we are booked on that date. If you want them book them now. I hope this helps xx

I booked my wedding last March and I get married July 2020. Everything's booked with at least a deposit paid. I wanted to get as much sorted as quick as poss. I did have a few funny looks when I booked so early but it's done!

My hubby is a wedding photographer and his bookings already run through into 2021. He's 50% booked through 2020 already. Definitely not too early to get organised with the bigger items such as that, venue, catering and bands/djs etc. Dresses also have at least 6m lead times etc. So when I got married, I chose my dress in the oct/Nov and we got married the following June. xx

As a cake designer I would suggest finding your local bakers and arranging a consultation with them as I already have wedding cake bookings into 2021 :)

If you have a look on Google for wedding checklists it should give you a good idea of when people usually book/shop etc. Good luck
