Hiya in needing some advice. I’m getting married in November 2020 and I was wondering when do I send out save the dates, I thought it was say 12- 8 months before the wedding, but I’ve read somewhere that people have sent them out 2 to 1 1/2 years in advance. So I’m a bit confused on when to send them out.

We sent out 14 months before but I thought that was early when looking at other forums etc. It depends on what day of the week it’s on, if it’s school holidays (which ours was) etc. Nothing wrong with letting people know early but you also don’t want them forgetting about it either. I’d say go for 12 months before x

Im November 2020 too, what date are you? We’re not doing save the dates as it’s immediate family for the ceremony and wedding breakfast so they already know xx

I would think there’s no correct answer to this but if you have a definite date and a venue booked there’s no reason to not send them

We sent ours November last year. And we’re getting married July 2020. Kinda realised I sent them too early. But I coulda waited until this year to send them. Then again it’s never too early to send invites!!!

I sent mine out about 18 month before for day guests and about 12 months for the evening. We got married in the school holidays though so wanted to make sure that everyone would be able to come. Do it whenever feels like right for you. There are now right or wrong it’s your wedding

Yeah I sent mine out at the beginning of this year and I get married in July 2020. Save the dates are for the guests to save the date so I dont understand why people don't send them when they have booked their wedding 😂

I told my friends & family to save the date as soon as it was known, then will send out proper invites in Feb for a July wedding.

I'm getting married December 2020. Everyone who's invited to the day do knows anyway but will sent out save the dates to day guests and night guests with Xmas cards this year

I didn’t bother. Just seemed like another thing to spend money on. Everyone who was coming to the day knew the date anyway and I just send my actual invites out with plenty of notice.

Mine was sent out a year in advance. As soon as date was set/deposit paid for venue. Ours is a week day. Invites going out by end Jan for wedding in July. (RSVP return by mid April)

We sent ours out a year before, and the invites six months before. Go by your individual circumstance. Do you have family far away who need to book flights? Is it a weekday wedding people need more notice to book off? Thinks like that.

We’re getting married in June this year and sent Save the date cards in June last year. Then invites went out in December, because guests need to book hotels to come x

A lot can change in 2 years! People in and out of relationships, or you drifting apart or closer to certain friends. I’d wait until a year out x

Save the dates usually about a year and invitations themselves about 5 months, that's what I did and found with weddings that I've been to/going to

Caroline Larner
Caroline Larner 18 Jan 2019

I'd say no earlier than a year in advance and even then it's just to ensure the people you really want there don't book any holidays etc. or can book the time off work. Sending them out earlier than that is fruitless as people will forget. We sent out fridge magnets so our date was in people's minds right up to the day as we felt a card would just be shoved in a drawer somewhere and forgotten! Sending a save the date also means you have more time to organise and send your invites as you only need to send them out a couple of months beforehand :-)

I set up a Facebook event and invited people on that instead of save the dates. Didn’t want to waste money and it gave me an indication early on about who won’t come x

I sent mine this month for November. The guests have to stay over so need to book their rooms now. We only waited till now because we thought they might get missed amongst Christmas cards

It’s your wedding, your rules! Whenever you want! I’d suggest if your doing the wedding further away from peoples houses and they need to book overnight accommodation then the earlier the better! If you have your venue set then send them out whenever you’re ready and have to money too!

i think a year is plenty of time! unless the wedding is going to be abroad people might need a bit more notice!

I'm getting married April 2020 and I am currently sorting and making them now to send out end of feb/march time so just over a year before. Send them out whenever you want really, and you don't have to have them at all, we are getting married the start of the Easter hols so thought a year before was good incase people were booking holidays in that time

Cassandra Glen
Cassandra Glen 22 Jan 2019

It's really down to you. I've sent mine out 1.5 years early purely because alot of family members do shift work and have to book there holidays a year in advance! This ways it saves them having to panic about shift cover later on xx
