From all the quotes I have received most guide prices are around £100 per tier. I personally think that the price people charge for wedding cakes are ludicrous particularly as like you I'm looking for something simple but elegant

We have paid £410 for a 4-tier cake with chocolate cigarello and fresh flower decoration instead of fondant icing.

We didn’t have a “normal” wedding cake but it was enough for 160 people and it cost us £170 we budgeted £200 and we were lucky to find a local independent baker who made us this beauty ️

We paid £350 for a 3 tier hexagonal cake, very plain with a small design on it. Just had a cream filling, no jam. We also had about 25 cupcakes, that was included in the £350. Xxx

This was mine and cost £415. The bottom tier was 12inch fruit cake which on their own are very expensive. I then had a vanilla layer, cherry bakewell and carrot cake layers.

I'm not telling them its a wedding cake so they don't hike the price up £200 like everyone does! I'm just saying it's for my 30th birthday as we are having a chocolate cake simular to this but only 4 tiers.

We were getting quotes of £300 plus, instead we are having a doughnut tower with a small semi naked cake on top for cutting. Costing less than £100.

Our 3 tier, 3 flavoured cake is costing us £175 as were using someone who does it as a hobby rather than a business. I had prices of £450 for the exact same cake from elsewhere.

We paid £180 for this including all decorations, delivery and set up at venue - two layers of vanilla sponge with baileys cream, one layer of lemon cake and one layer of chocolate. 😊
I did get quoted £300 from the first place I chose which ended up closing down just before the wedding and scamming loads of people out of their money and cakes. I then got quoted £280 from somewhere else as well. Make sure you look around, do a bit of research on the companies and get various quotes before deciding 😊

I get married two weeks Saturday.. My cake is costing me £200. Three layers three flavours. Also being delivered and set up. Which is easy as I live a two minute walk from my reception venue and my cake maker lives in between me and the venue..

Are any of these cake bakers in Hertfordshire as I’ve had 2 quotes on a half naked cake and they’re coming up at around £350 with a few fresh flowers for decor which is quite expensive in comparison to all of yours which seem to be fully iced with beautiful decor!
I’d be interested to know xx

Another option is to ask someone to bake it? I am really good at decorating cakes so I volunteered to help my sisters friend; she made a heap of cupcakes and I decorated them and we did it as a gift for my sisters wedding.

Caroline Larner

It depends what you want really and how much detail/decoration you require. General rule of thumb is the simpler the cake the less the price! We're paying £260 for enough for 80 guests (it will serve as our desert in the evening) which we thought was pretty reasonable as we are having quite a lot of decoration and price includes delivery and set up? A 'naked' cake or barely iced cake would cost far less I would imagine and is bang on trend!

Ours was about £370 for 120 mini cupcakes and a top tier, all red velvet. As people were taking the cakes the tiers were being replenished.

Look at Sainsbury’s, Asda, M & S and Tesco they all do separate wedding cake sizes at reasonable prices that you can customise yourself. Good luck ...
