Hi everyone. I’m getting married in November 2020 and I’m confused on who to get for to do the photos, there is so many company’s out there and so many packages. An I’m so confused as they all say that they are the best. How do you know which one to pick? I’m from west Yorkshire so if anyone has any recommendations on some photographers it would be much appreciated. Thank you xx

Why not try the free engagement shoot from UK Bride and see how it comes out? I was feeling the frustration of the 'sameness' of them all and the inflexibility of their packages (I don't want a BIG book of photographs ... been there, done that) when I stumbled across a wonderful lady who charged by the hour and much more up for what we wanted. We just 'clicked'. Keep looking till you find the one ... you have the time. Good luck.

I’d recommend asking in your local area Facebook hub for suggestions, usually if you’re using someone local they will be a smaller business and won’t charge as much... or will do a better deal for the money. Alternatively, ask around family and friends; someone is bound to know someone and could even sort a discounted price maybe?

We were struggling to choose but then met ours at a wedding fair and just clicked with them. I think it is really important for you to get on with your photographers as they are such a big part of your day.
Try visiting wedding fairs :) xx

Hi. We are using Graham Charles photography. They were recommended by a friend and I loved their style and both so lovely! I'm getting married in Skipton!

Peter Boyd is an excellent and highly experienced wedding photographer. I've used him for a variety of events in the past. He captures great candid shots and is very discrete.

Forgot to say before Peter Boyd is based in Huddersfield so ideal for someone West Yorkshire based.

If you have a family member or friend who takes good photos ,ask them if they would like to take the photos. I am asking a cousin who likes photography & belongs to a club, & my sons girlfriend who has done photography at Uni. It will be cheaper.

Hi, we are photographers but as you have asked for advice and not recommendations, I won’t provide our details, but some advice (a) look through lots of galleries - photographers have different styles and you’ll begin to see some you like - ignore budget for now, and ignore location - most photogrphaers will travel (b) look at reviews - see what people are saying (c) ask for a meeting - this doesn’t always have to be face to face - Skype / facetime work just as well - do you get a feel for the person - could you see yourself and your friends and family spending all day with that person (c) ask for details of their business credentiasl - HMRC registration, insurance and a sample contract - are you happy with their terms and conditions - after each phase try and reduce your selection (d) budget - are any you have selected in your budget - if they are great, then have a decision to make - if they are over budget ask if there is a deal to be done or a payment plan - don’t always look at lots of extras (albums / prbits etc) and think that must mean a great deal - if you have a price and lots of extras ask what the costs of those extras are - then take that off the quoted price - what you get left with is the true cost of the photography - lots of things to think about - this is a one time deal, you’ll never get back the opportunity to do this again so trusting someone to potentially be the most important person on your day to create everlasting memories - good luck with your search !

Look at their portfolios and ask to see albums of full weddings you will find you like some photographers pictures better than others. Also remember the pictures are one of the only 'hard copy' memories of the day to keep looking back on so are important

We're using Lynsey Doran, is spotted her stuff before we got engaged and just really liked her style. When looking all the similar photographers were very similar in price so we arranged to meet her and she was so lovely we felt that she would make us feel comfortable and get the sorts of pictures we want.

I asked friends for recommendations, looked through all that were suggested and shortlisted the ones I liked, then hubby looked through those and contacted those we both liked. Some were unavailable on our wedding date but meet up with those who were.

I wrote a list of questions so I knew I was asking them the same things. We liked the work from all of them, and they were all similarly priced so we went with the one we felt most comfortable with.

We're only just back from honeymoon so don't have the pics yet, but he showed us a few on the camera and they look great, I can't wait to see them all!

We're too far away to make a worthwhile specific recommendation, but I must say getting out and meeting lots of different photographers was the biggest help for us.
We kept looking until we found someone with a personality we clicked with. It definitely made the whole experience more comfortable for us on the day as we're not the most relaxed in front of a camera!!!
Good luck with your search

Have a look through their galleries and see what appeals to you. Maisy Carr is based in West Yorkshire. She did my brother's wedding and I'm booking her for mine too! Have a chat with the photographers and make sure you have the right feeling, you need to feel comfortable with the one you choose!

You need to look at their style of editing.. in my opinion it's really important to find someone good because that's all you have left of the day. Don't just go with someone who is cheap or because they're a family friend.. xx

We found two photographers we couldn't chose between so went to meet them individually for a coffee. So glad we did as the first guy was awful, old fashioned, inflexible on how he thought the day should run and I just felt so uncomfortable around him. The second photographer was amazing, so friendly and approachable, easy to talk to and made us feel that the whole day was going to be about capturing our day naturally without 'getting in the way' - we had such a good rapport with them, I now wouldn't want anyone else!! So as well as checking costs, portfolios, insurance and reviews I'd definitely recommend meeting them before booking, just to see if you're happy with them being around you all day on one of your most important days :-)

Look through their galleries and go with the one that you keep going back to. I've discounted a few photographers after I realised that all their shots are the same poses for every wedding they do, I want something fun, not something thats been done a million times before
