I've started on my wedding diet as I have, according to the NHS, 6 stone to loose... sigh, so I need the 20 odd months to hopefully shift quite a bit. Does anyone have any advice? I am unfit and overweight, and gym's make me uncomfortable, plus I love to snack! I just feel that weight doesn't want to leave me (in case I hibernate or something!!!) and would love to know what has worked for others.

I have tried slimming clubs on and off for years and facts show that most regain the weight....and in the long run is a waste of money.
I would buy a fit bit and down load the app. Log your food and walk...get your steps in and make sure you have a calorific deficit each day of around 500 cals...also check out RH fitness on facebook for extra advise.
I put weight back on every time I reached goal and left slimming classes ...I got a fit but 14 monthd ago and I am the lowest weight I have ever been and maintained it x GOOD LUCK X

I completely changed my diet and did Charlotte Crosby's workout DVD in the comfort of my own home, lost a few pounds in the first week just down to changing the way I ate and monitoring what I ate calorie wise. I would set a goal then try to go beyond it, knowing if I did I could do it next time. I lost almost 2 stone in probably about 3-4 months. I drank lots of water too, no fizzy drinks, alcohol or sugary juices. Give it a go and good luck!! Xx

I have lost over 3 stone by taking up Zumba, I go to local classes in village halls etc, I absolutely love it, it's changed my life so much fun, and I didn't do any exercise before. Definitely worth a try. I cannot believe the difference its made in fitness levels and toning up. I also made smaller portions and it really worked x

I lost 4 stone in 4 months with Cambridge weight plan in 2016 i learned to re-educate my eating habits and have therefore kept it off. I am back on the plan now (to lose the rest)and feeling amazing.
The meals are fully nutritional as opposed to some meal replacement programmes. The plan was used for BBCs crash diet experiment last month- watch it on iplayer, one guy put his diabetes into remission after just 9 weeks on plan!

You’ll get tons of different advice. I’d look at it all and try some different methods. Track your food accurately! Weigh your food and Be honest. Once you have an idea on how many calories you are eating see where you can cut back or make swaps for lower calorie snacks. It’s hard, a calorie deficit is hard. You’ll feel hungry but that’s ok. Aim for a 500 calorie deficit a day and have faith. It takes time and patience. Drink lots of water. Brush your teeth after dinner. Stops me snacking.
Try and find something you enjoy to get moving. Be it walking cycling running team sports or the gym. Ultimately it comes down to eating less than you need.
Mix up his much protein fat and carbs you are eating to see what keeps you full the most. Lots and lots of veggies can make it seem like you are eating lots of food for low calories.

I have tried everything in the past and never saw any changes. Gym, special diets, pills, exercise classes, slimming groups etc. I'd lose a few pounds but they'd always come back 10x.. Where as since seeing a special dietician, I've lost 4st in 8 months by cutting my meal sizes, using a side plate rather that a dinner plate. Eat slowly!! Chew everything to oblivion before swallowing, trust me, youll feel fuller faster. Eat small but regularly. So 3 small meals (especially breakfast!!) and 3 snacks to get you through. Nothing is off limits to me, just in moderation! Watch your sugars! And most importantly, drink water! It's so important to make sure your drinking the right amount! Don't think of it as a diet, think of it as a life style change xx

Cut down on carbs, increase your protein, follow the recommended portion sizes, find some healthy snacks and just get your body moving even if it’s just walking more. I have a huge sweet tooth and curbed my cravings with portioned fruit and dark chocolate.

Try going for a walk. Set a route, even if you only start off with half a mile or so, it can get longer. Go for a fast paced walk, not a stroll. Eventually you’ll find you can do it quicker and for longer. Perhaps even a couple of times a day, this can gradually build up and you’ll see you start dropping the pounds. You want to lose gradually than quickly as you more likely to put the weight back on otherwise. Then when you are more comfortable maybe a gym or a class here and there, you’ll soon build the confidence up

Move more, eat less calories than you need. You can monitor how many you eat in my fitness pal. Helps keep you focussed and aware of what you are eating, and puts your progress into perspective to help you. Avoid processed foods. Make and prepare your food in advance so you don't get caught out and order curry/ buy crisps and junk. don't go mad and crash diet or you are more likely to break...or rebound when you stop. aim for a gentle weight loss. I recommend a group called eat2win. Available for free on Facebook with a brilliant ebook to help you create a new lifestyle rather than crash. The qualified nutritionists are on hand and it's a friendly group where you are not judged just encouraged. Currently a free 15 minute yoga challenge available on the page which I thoroughly recommend I am only a week into the challenge and feeling my core strength improving already.

First of all well done for thinking about this in advance so you can choose something that isn’t a fad diet!!!

Set small goals for yourself along the way like 5-10% weight loss (by aiming for approx 1lb per week) this means you are more likely to keep it off when you lose it than some fad diet that causes you to lose weight drastically but you put it all back on and more.

Try the NHS 12 week weight loss plan. Focus is on healthier eating and it’s structured and evidence based! Offers ideas for snacking within a calorie restriction. The British heart foundation plan is similar and great too!

The main thing with diet I find that helps is looking at plate size and proportion of food on the plate. Think of half your plate veg, 1/4 plate carb (potatoes/rice/pasta) and 1/4 plate protein (fish/chicke/meat). The more veg the better. No food should be out of bounds but how often you have something, the cooking method and the portion are key. Please don’t feel you have to cut any food group out!!

Don’t forget to exercise though - it doesn’t have to be a gym- walking is great and some home weight resistance training (you can find this in internet) is great to burn extra calories so you don’t have to be as restrictive with your food - bonus!! Exercise will tone you too bigger bonus! Enlist the help of a friend to work out with , believe me this makes things so much better!!

Good luck, think positively about yourself and it will make things a lot easier. Remember: You are just wanting to be a better version of you for life and health, not look like someone you aren’t for one day. you can do it!

Not good with keep fit or slimming clubs... it was a drastic lifestyle change... went from about 3500 cals a day to 1500... ate a lot of foods even snacks but it all had to be 1500 cals.... clubs work for some exercise for others or combi of both.. cal counting worked for me.

why don't you try the slimming world diet you can look on line for your local group I find this diet really works for me. You never have to go hungry and can eat as much as you like provided it is the right sort of food ( fruit & vegetables) you can also have 10-15 syns per day to use for things such as chocolate/crisps etc so you don't have to cut things out altogether.

I lost a lot of weight counting calories. Sounds tedious but you'll get to the point where you can pinpoint how many calories something might have. Doesn't have to be exact but it'll shock you how much you put into your body without realising. I wouldn't recommend slimming world or weight watchers, as soon as you stop doing it you end up gaining it all back plus more.

For exercise I bought a £20 exercise step, and just chucked on an episode of something I love to watch. That's 45 mins of steady workout right there. Your brains so immersed in the program that you don't even notice that you're stepping.

Avoid starvation diet as it will bounce back ..... Either slimming world or healthy smaller portions not Big plates with Loads of water , especially cutting out wine , fizzy drinks , take aways , crisps & sweets & puddings...... Aqua aerobics as water bearing won't impact on joints and / or 1 hour's walking up and down hills .....
Avocados ,
Fish ,
Salads ,
Green tea with pomegranate,
Vitamin B6 & vitamin B12 if lacking in energy get up and go to help kick start energy levels ......
& read up on anything nutrition wise that AIDS metabolic rates / Google .....
Warm wishes ....

I statred with a website called FitnessBlender.com, they have free videos online, then I joined slimming world, then I started the gym when i felt a little more comfortable doing a couch to 5k.
I'm not going to lie, its been hard work and sometimes I've wanted to give up, but I set smaller goals and not always focussed on the number on the scales. Instead I've looked at the difference on my clothes, the way I feel - and yes, I've had bad days (even bad weeks) but drawing a line underneath that remembering what I want to feel like on the day, getting on with and forgiving myself for eating something 'naughty'. Not just thinking, well thats it I've ruined it all for this week, I'll start again Monday.
I have always struggled with my weight, so i feel ya! good luck! you CAN do it :)

Try lean in 15 by joe wickes, you can buy the cookbooks rather than paying for the plan and on his YouTube channel there are HIIT sessions for beginners/low impact etc. I lost 3 stone in a year following it (not religiously admittedly). Unlike slimming world etc it teaches healthy food habits and they’ve stuck with me.

Change in the diet. Not a massive change as it will fail. Small changes over time.

Small work outs in the home. Plank, sit ups, press ups, star jumps... That type of thing.
You have a goal... Now time to hit that goal.

I joined slimming world and lost nearly 5 stone in two years. Went from a size 22 wedding dress when first measured to a size 14 on my wedding day. No calorie counting, just healthy eating and snacking on the right food!!

Small changes over time. Make sure you pick a regime you can live with, there's no point in trying to live off carrot sticks for the next two years, you'll be miserable and never stick to it, then feel even worse. Find something that works for you. If you're going to exercise, find something that you can enjoy. Walk your friend's dog, do a dance class, there are loads of options out there that don't involve going the gym. Don't get obsessed with the scales, you will fluctuate, and if you're like me it will really get you down when you 'gain'. Look at your clothes. If they don't fit, you've lost weight.

Get a personal trainer. Yes they can be pricy but it is worth every penny. They help you change the way you think about food and exercise whilst educating you.

I personally have tried many many fad diets over the years and yes, they do make you loose weight initially. However they aren’t realistic. I failed at them all because it’s such a sudden restriction to almost everything. I also find I gain weight quicker when this happens and I go back to usual. Personally I would try to avoid anything that is a shake instead of food etc. Try to focus not on loosing weight so much but being healthier. Make the lifestyle changes so as you can continue that on, get yourself some vitamins (I don’t mean diet pills) but vitamins that boost your metabolism, give you some extra boost and in turn make you more healthy. Still eat, eat regularly, the more you try to stop eating the more chance you have of giving in when it gets to the evening time. The slimming world regime is fantastic because you still eat you just change your ingredients and monitor your quantities. I find, after a while you actually start to stop craving what you used to want. And it becomes second nature to do things the way you do. I think of it as ‘if I don’t have that mars bar I did yesterday, then I’m a already on a road of improvement’ small and steady is the way to go. Drink lots and lots of water, especially before a meal, not only will it do your skin the world of good but it will help you on your way to weight loss too. I find that many of these packets in the supermarket that claim they are low fat, often contain other baddies that can be just as bad as full fat. try to buy whole foods and prepare your own meals and some fats are good fats, I lost more weight in 6 months by just choosing the right ingredients to make a meal with than starving on shakes and fads. The aim is to make adjustments that you can carry on without becoming absolutely starving all the time this way it will be easier to persevere and reach your goal. Congratulations on your engagement 🤗 xxx

Try not to put too much pressure on yourself! Cut out the unhealthy snacks and stick to fruit and veg. You don't need a gym to get exercise do more walking, walk up and down the stairs at home more often. cut out any fizzy sugary drinks etc you will be amazed at how much you can lose.

My wife has lost a good amount of weight by just changing diet she doesn’t go without any food just in smaller amounts I also had to change the sugar I cooked with due to her diabetes so now use coconut sugar it tastes the same but does not interfere with her GI, after seeing the results of diet changes she has made also finding sugar free alternatives for sweets / chocolate ( she has a very sweet tooth) I’ve baked to satisfy her cake tooth the weight has come off and she’s dropped three trouser sizes. Good luck

Definitely Weightwatchers. I joined and haven't really been trying, as it doesn't feel like dieting at all - and I've managed to lose 2 stone in 4 months!! I've just taken it slowly, don't really exercise and didn't want the excess skin with 'quick fix' diets. I also couldn't imagine the psychological impact of foods being called 'syns' but you can eat anything with Weighrwatchers. There's always loads of support as well, be it at meetings or the online app. I'd definitely recommend it.

My Fitness Pal is an app that recommends your daily calorie intake required to reach a goal weight. Snack on carrot sticks, celery and gherkins as they are so low in calories and only drink water. A glass of wine has around the same calories as a chocolate bar.

im doing sw but also recently started calorie counting to see if that can help as im at a standstill due to medication. exercise alone wont do it and diet alone wont make you fit. just make small changes as you go. walk instead of drive, stairs instead of lift, cook instead of takeaway and aim for 10000 steps a day. find a buddy to do it with and measure self too dont just go off the scales as that can be torturous to the mind. ive lost 4st after having baby last year and got 2 stone maybe 2 n half to go x just keep going, be kind to yourself but also realistic, yes you deserve the treat but is it going to gdt you where u want to be, what is your want. x
