Hi all... I'm not sure what to buy for a case for my dress, as I'm flying to Jamaica to get married. I heard a cabin crew case is sufficient, does anyone know if I would need a steamer also? It's a laced trumpet style dress. ???? Any other advice on getting married abroad would be much appreciated.

i was moh in jamaica last year & the bride put hers & my dress in a hand held suitcase, we took them out as soon as we got to the hotel as they didnt have facility to get them steamed, they were absolutley fine for the wedding a week after we got there.x

I'm getting married in Cyprus and the travel agent is providing a dress box. the hotel also allows me you use the steam room whilst I'm there

I got married in Las Vegas in June and I put my dress and my husbands suit, my flowers, accessories etc in one big hold case. At the airport the staff put a priority sticker on the case to make sure the crew were careful with it and it didn’t get lost. When we arrived and unpacked both my dress and his suit were fine, they didn’t even need steamed. We just used our other hold case for all our regular clothes and toiletries and our cabin cases for heavier items such as shoes etc. Hope this helps!

Most bridal shops will fold it in to your hand luggage case or a dress box.
We’re getting married in Mexico and I’ve been advised to steam my dress when I arrive. If the hotel can’t do it I’ve found cheap hand steamers on Amazon.x

Can you check with your hotel whether they have steam facilities on site just in case?

I got married in vages & flew from Belfast to Vegas with my dress in dress bag as my hand luggage, it was hung up on the back of the door at front of plane the whole flight my husbands suit carrier was attached inside my dress bag also! Then flew from Vegas to cancun on honeymoon and then cancun to Belfast home and same thing happened each flight as I needed my dress for a party at home! Hope this helps

I’d buy a wedding dress travel box they are sized so they can be taken on as hand luggage and you can give them to the wedding dress shop so they can fold and put tissue paper in with the dress etc. I got married abroad and did that. Loads of people seemed to notice it more and avoid pushing it around in the overhead compartment etc and the bloke who took it down for me was careful etc

Loads can be found online for a range of prices it’s perfect if your keeping your dress after to store in! The dry cleaners I used took the box and re packed it for me for storage once cleaned

I got married in Majòrca last year and I put all my wedding stuff in my little cabin case as wanted to keep it all with me on the plane. I kept my dress in it's dress bag and just rolled it up, put it in my case with my shoes, tiara, veil and jewellery. Admittedly it was only a short flight. My dress was a full skirt and bodice and had lots of chiffon fabric, it was fine as it had been rolled up. I just hung the dress bag up when I got to the hotel and it was all fine. My husband did the same with his suit and shoes (and bridesmaid gifts) etc. It was quite nice knowing that we each had a little case which contained all our wedding stuff! It's surprising what you can squeeze in! Have an amazing time x

Ring the airline as some flights will carry wedding dresses in the bag so no folding/rolling it up.
The Empty Box Company do lovely dress travel boxes and somewhere to store the dress after the date!

I got married in the Dominican republic and I had a big tulle skirt I put mine in a normal hand luggage size suit case. We flew with Thomson and they allow you extra 5kg for your wedding attire. Make sure you wrap in white tissue paper as some dresses can change colour on the flight. Mine didn't need to be steamed. Just hung it up when we got to the rooms.

If you ask your dress designer or seamstress to pack it, they will wrap it nicely and pack it into your hand baggage and you can take it on the flight with you.

We do specialise in very sturdy & beautiful Wedding Travel Boxes to take your wedding dress through as hand luggage; and they allow for breathability on the plane (changes in humidity when you are there as well!) and come with lots of acid free tissue paper, and everyone does treat it very carefully as they know it contains something v special! You can then store your dress in it after the day to prevent yellowing of the fabrics. Also if packed with the tissue they usually just need a little hang at the other end and the dress looks fine!
