We have found an extremely lovely venue in Norfolk that we wish to marry at however we have a problem. The venue cost is within budget but the food there is mandatory so you can't out source catering. It is going to be around £5000 to feed guests including a mandatory buffet we have to have and then a sit down meal and that is priced only with a main meal included not 3 courses. We are really sad we might have to let this venue go just because of the food costs. Does anyone have any tips or ideas of what I could do to cut the cost of the food? Or do you think £5000 is good for 140 guests?
I think for one meal and a buffet that is expensive for a 3 course meal I think that would be more reasonable but you are only going to do this once and if it is your dream venue don’t change that, have you spoken to them to see if they would make it a 2 course at least for that price? X
Do you have to have a sit down meal? Can you not have a hot buffet and add on desserts? We have been told that many people don't bother with desserts if there is cake as people don't tend to eat both.
We are doing a carvery as works out cheaper xx
Ours was £8000 for canapés, 3 course meal and evening food for 100 people (evening food was for an extra 20 people) and we couldn’t our source food either so I think it’s about right.
Sadly this is what happens when you go for a venue that does this.
We loved our venue and the food was unreal but definitely worth seeing if there is any wriggle room anywhere.
We could use our own alcohol for the entire day as their was no corkage fee which helped with some costs xx
For that price your cost is £35 per head so that’s very reasonable ! Yes cheaper is out there but so are places that will charge three times more for the same food options !
We’re paying just over £5000 for a 3 course meal for 60 and a buffet for 100 x
I personally would look somewhere else, but that's because the food was important for us and if our venue couldn't do what we had wanted we would have looked at another place. I discounted venues that said I had to have an evening buffet for the total number of guests and chose one that let us have 85%of the people catered for as not everyone will eat (based on extensive knowledge from family members who work in the industry). You'll need to decide what works for both of you. Good luck x
We went for a venue where you can do your own food and are getting a fancy food van to come for just over a grand to feed a hundred people.
I actually think that's reasonable for those numbers in a nice venue
Omg I wish I could feed my guests for that price. You’ve bagged a bargain!
I thought so too! We don't necessarily have to have a sit down meal but I think we would be relieved to after all the butterflies calm down I'd probably be glad to see a plate of food. I just think they are being strict with the food aspect of it especially saying we have to have a buffet. It is a good idea to have cake as a dessert. I will have to just speak to them like you said I'm scared they will tell me to go elsewhere haha
I'd half the guests, half the cost!
I think that is very reasonable for those numbers x
Its cost my other half that amount and thats for only 50 people.x
That's about £35pp which I think is so cheap! Our venue is around £120pp for 2 courses (And extra for evening buffet!)
If it's your dream venue I wouldn't let it stop you... but if money is really a problem, then maybe consider cutting your numbers! Good luck! Xx
I think that’s cheap! X
That’s a decent price! X
That's a good price for that many guests
We are paying £95 per person but that is for a three course meal, evening buffet and includes drinks (welcome drink, 1/2 bottle wine and toast drink). Our venue is a hotel so have to use their restaurant chefs but the restaurants are 2 rosettes and we have eaten there and like the food a lot.
We had canapés a hog roast servers to table with Greek salads and potatoes profiteroles for pudding for 135 and fresh wood fired pizzas for 250 people for £4000 in the evening. They may let you have a hog roast which tend to be really good value for money x
I am paying around £125.00 per head Inc a drinks package.... so only having 50 people at the wedding x
The food was the most expensive part of our wedding too. For the sit down meal and drinks package for 64 People, it cost £75 a head. Then the evening buffet for 140 people cost £12 a head, but they wanted to charge us more.... we negotiated with the venue to drop the price slightly as they originally wanted £18 a head. If it's the dream venue for you, maybe you need to negotiate and if they won't budge on price, either accept the price or try and find another venue. Most places will negotiate on prices.....you just have to ask. Xx
I didn’t go for my dream venue because of the same sort of issue
Hold on I just re-read this...you say the sit down meal is NOT a 3 course meal, just a main course? £5000 is way too much personally. Good luck x
We’re having a hot fork buffet and light buffet in the evening. I’m sure if you speak to the venue and just explain that the food costs are too high and you may have no choice but to go elsewhere they’ll probably do a deal. They won’t want to lose out on money and if your at the point of possibly going somewhere else it won’t but too big an issue if they say no. See if you can play hard ball a bit and haggle. Xx
5000 for 140 guests is cheap - but if you feel that’s too much half the amount of guests ?? All of a sudden you only have to pay £2500 - or I have been to weddings where they have got married later in the day and then just supplied an evening buffet and party one way of keeping cost down
I think for the price your getting it is pretty cheap we are paying a little less for 40 guests for the meal and 100 people for evening do with buffet x
Me and my other half went to our dream venue in Suffolk btw and then when we got the quote we laughed it was ridiculously high like 25 grand high for 120 guests we said goodbye to our dream venue and landed a corker of a venue and ends up we all know each other one way or another we have a really good feeling about this venue and we are glad we turned the Manor House down . It wasn't worth the money . I suppose you have to ask yourself is it worth it after all it's your hard earned money and what you willing to spend it on .
When you break it down it’s only £35pp which really isn’t bad!
Ours is £68 a head for all day guests and £10 a head for additional evening guests xx
We had a sit down BBQ, Only because I have a back problem, but it could have been outside, it was much cheaper, see if they do somethin like that? It was brilliant, xx
We are paying just under 5000 for 30 day guests with a 3 course meal and buffet with 100 night guests xx
I think this is very reasonable. The place we are getting married was 120 pounds per head for catering. We have outsourced and got it to 38 pounds her head. This is a good deal. You easily spend 35 quid on a 3 course meal when you go to a restaurant
Does that include any drinks? I think that's a good price for 140 people.
We're paying £8000 for 120 people: 6x canapes and 2 course meal (main and dessert) no alcohol (we supply our own with no corkage) plus £1000 for 100 pizzas in the evening (200 guests total). They are preparing and serving our welcome drinks.
We had a choice of 6 caterers for our venue all in a similar price range. We could have had bbq, hog roast, afternoon tea or street food for cheaper than the sit down meal but we wanted to have that part in our day.
Wedding food is expensive!
We are paying £50 per head for a drink on arrival, hog roast and salads etc, wine on the table bubbly for toasts and then a supper of Bacon baps and chips. For 80 people for £4000 which I think is pretty good value especially after I looked at a lot of other local venues and they were quite restrictive about what we could have, the numbers they were prepared to accommodate and very much more expensive
