To those of you who got married in a church (mine will be a Catholic Church) - how early did you make the arrangements? I know there's marriage preparation classes etc but I have no idea how long any of it takes, and my fiancé wants to get baptised first. I'm getting married early 2021. Also, how much did it cost? Xx
Hi I would talk to your priest :)
Catholic Church doesn’t charge for marriage, it is expected you make a donation
I was married in my Catholic Church and it wasn’t too expensive. It was £25 plus £50 to the organist then just the money for the registrar on the day depending on how many copies of your marriage certificate you wanted. I had it booked in the diary for over a year but the priest wouldn’t discuss arrangements until closer to the time bits best to speak to him. Xxx
2021 is loads of time. We booked our Church last September and get married this May x
We paid £100 for the marriage preparation course but it's just a donation for the church, you need to let the priest know at least 6 months in advance preferably 12 months so they don't give the date away to someone else, then the priest will advise you on how to book the prep course
I'm getting married in a Catholic church in august, no charge unless we want choir, organist etc we just need to pay for paperwork at registry office. The church I'm getting married in is quite popular so there is already bookings for 2020 and 2021 so I would go asap so you can secure your date.
For the service marriage classes etc ours is coming to nearly £1000. Which is quite normal around here, however I'm not a regular church goer so it may be reduced if you know organist etc.
Getting married in cofe church. booked in december for sept 2019
We booked the church 10 weeks later we said "i do" as long as your date is available there shouldnt be any problems. We paid around £700 for everything including the choir flowers organ legal work and heating (we married in october)my daughter was christened the same day there was no charge for her christening x
We're getting married in a Catholic Church in May this year,my fiancé has never been christened and the priest was ok with this, apparently we just have to fill out a form.we didn't have to do the whole going to church on a Sunday for 6 months or to hear banns read either.we have to give a 'donation' around 350 to the church and do the marriage prep course which is actually ok and not preachy at all.our priest wouldn't talk to us until12months before wedding to start paperwork but we had provisionally booked in the date about 18months before to ensure he didn't give it to someone else.speak with the priest at the church you want to get married in as I think everything is up to their individual discretion x
Our marriage classes started about 6 months before we got married. Just a made a donation of your choice to the priest and chapel itself. Xx
I got married in a Catholic church & it was completely free. I just paid £50 on the days for the registrar & £75 for your notice of marriage that you need to do anyway. Depending on whether you have to do a marriage course I just think it's whether the date you want is free or not, not necessarily a time scale beforehand X
My church is £900 (the works including organ/choir and bells). Just need to talk to your vicar
We booked the church early last cost us 600 pounds
My church is costing £400, got my marriage prep tomorrow which was £100 and giving notice was £70...think is changed with each church, we provisionally booked our in Aug 2016, haven't been in touch with then since but will do once we have done tomorrow's course so we can give the paperwork over and start confirming details. I'm getting married outside my parish so having to go to both churches for the moment xx
Ours was free, but we gave a donation to the church. It cost for musicians, as we got them from the cathedral (our church doesn't have musicians). We asked the priest about a year before, we had an initial meeting then, & a meeting closer to the wedding xx
