Not a good idea to mix different carats of gold (i.e. 18carat and 9carat) as one will wear the other down and same with gold to silver. With regards to different colours you could have white gold and yellow gold together and I have seen some stunning rings like this but again, the carat rating needs to be the same. Hope you find something lovely.

If you want a different colour I guess you could go for silver and then have it yellow/rose gold plated?

Not a good idea, different materials will wear the other quicker xxx

Best not to as gold is a lot softer and can be worn down by silver x

I’ve got a gold ring with a diamond in. Would a gold wedding band be best along side it then?
(Sorry to jump on but I’ve been wondering the same thing)

Would be best to talk to a jeweller to check the types of metal so that the settings don’t wear away etc. My engagement ring is platinum but I could have palladium wedding band if I wanted as they are the same hardness (but palladium is much lighter and cheaper!)

It's advised you match metals to avoid damaging your rings, the harder metal will wear away the softer one

It’s best to match the golds as people have said. One of mine is 14k gold and the other 9k... and that’s not ideal but not too bad. But I wouldn’t recommend silver and gold together. X

I went to the jewellers today to look at wedding rings, and they advised to have the same metal as one could damage the other. Xxxxx

My engagement ring is gold and my wedding band is white gold. My engagement ring is an unusual shape but found a wedding ring that sits flush 2 it. It was more important for me to find the right fitting wedding ring over colour/metal and it looks nice together. Have what you want and are happy with x x

It depends what metal you are using. If you were to have white gold and yellow gold of the same carat then shouldn't be an issue but you should always use the same metal. For example, platinum is harder than gold so you shouldn't wear them next to each other as the platinum will wear it down. If you have a silver metal engagement ring you should buy a silver wedding ring.
