Just got engaged on Friday (yippeeeee!) and planning on getting married October 2019. Just wondering what sort of time scales people are looking at and whether I should be starting planning. My partner reckons we don't need to start for another few months but I disagree! xxx

I'm not getting married until June 2020 and already planning stuff, it's never too early. If you do want a certain date for 2019 you should start looking at venues and/or registry offices as they get booked up fast. 😊

Hi im getting married in August 2019. So i started a pintrest so i could get some ideas. I have done a brainstorm relating everything to do with a wedding. Then made a list of all the things i needed to do. So far in 3 weeks i have booked my wedding hall and the venue for the after party and the caterers. To me they are the most important for now then everything else can come in time. Also had some save the date cards done. I personally think its better to do things like rhis now then its less stress in a few months time. Hope this helps.

Never to early. I'm June 2019 and have started budget planning and looking at venues...good thing I did as they were already booked in weeks running up to our date x

I'm getting married Aug 19 and I've booked my venue, the registar and a DJ up to now so I don't think it's too early. If definitely start looking at venues asap x

I got engaged a month ago and already the venue, the church and a possible dress maker, getting married next year. Its never to early to start. It makes everything easier if anything.

UKbride Member 31 Oct 2017

Defiantly start looking at what budget you have, and venues. if you have a particular date in mind, the earlier you book it with a venue the better, as then you are guaranteed to have this date, photographers are another thing that book up quickly, especially if there is a particular person you want. We booked our venue almost two years in advance, but that's because we are marrying on our 10yr anniversary, so will be special for us. Good luck

UKbride Administrator
UKbride Administrator 1 Nov 2017

The best thing about booking in advance is you will get things at a cheaper price.
Also you can make sure that you can definitely get the things you want, when you book in advance. Some venues have a long wait list so at least book that now xx

I get married August 2018 but we got engaged August 2016. By October 2016 we had booked the church, venue, photographer/videographer and venue dresser, we also got wedding insurance and booked the registrar. It's never too early especially if you want the best suppliers, places get booked up very quickly!! Xx

UKbride Administrator
UKbride Administrator 1 Nov 2017

Get your venue and photographer booked as soon as you can, then everything else can wait for a bit. That's how it worked for us anyway x

UKbride Member 1 Nov 2017

We got engaged in July this year, and are getting married in July 2019. We started planning in September, as places are already getting booked up.

I'd start making enquiries, and if you find somewhere you like book it. Plus it give you more time to pay everything off. Xxxx

UKbride Member 1 Nov 2017

I got engaged in Jan '15, this year I only just got him to set the date. I looked around and booked in the summer, we are getting married in September '18. You will be suprised to see what gets booked up so quickly and early. Get all the important stuff like venues, photographers, make up, hair, florist etc artists booked now, I struggled with hair and make up, alot of them were booked up until '20. The deposit is to save the date, then relax and look at detail bit by bit. Thats my advice!

UKbride Administrator
UKbride Administrator 1 Nov 2017

We booked the venue and registrar 2 years in advance, got the last Saturday in September 2018. If you want a particular venue and/or date best to book now. Also if you're having a registrar book as early as possible as they fill up quickly. Use the full 2 years to plan, you'll enjoy it more as there will be less pressure and you're less likely to find the things you want aren't available x

UKbride Administrator
UKbride Administrator 1 Nov 2017

We had 9 months to plan x

UKbride Administrator
UKbride Administrator 1 Nov 2017

We're getting married in June 19. Have a serious think about your budget and what you might like. I'd prioritise finding your venue and a date and then you can relax a bit until next year. We got engaged in June and booked our venue in September for June 19.

And also I booked the dress maker. We planned our budget and guest list. Never too late to start and if you are lucky you get good prices! at least we don't have to rush everything last minute and saving lots of stress

We’re also getting married October 2019, we have booked our venue and been to a wedding fayres, chosen our colours but other than that gonna leave it a few months. Started getting ideas but need to save some money for deposits before we can book anything else! 🙂

UKbride Administrator
UKbride Administrator 1 Nov 2017

We planned ours 2 years in advance, we just looked round when we felt like it and book things we liked. We had things booked well in advance but it meant we had plenty of time to focus on the little bits like clothes, gifts etc and we knew everything was organised so we were both really relaxed on the run up to it!

It's never too early to start planning even if it's just picking out colour schemes and themes, I'm getting married 2022 and I'm always on the look out for wedding things so I got a much clearer image as to what we want

Tracey Whitehouse
Tracey Whitehouse 1 Nov 2017

Congratulations! I got engaged with years ago and started planning straight away! My wedding is now only 5 months away and I am on top of everything. You might want to try to haggle with the venue if you are booking it a couple of years away, they will be happy for a firm deposit booking so might be happy to give that years price instead of the increase most of them out in every year. Good luck x

Roseanne Farrant
Roseanne Farrant 1 Nov 2017

I would say get your big stuff booked up now (venue/church/dJ/photographer) and then do your other stuff later on. You don’t want to do everything now otherwise you won’t have anything to do later on and that will be something you regret. My advise it to set your budget on what you can afford and shop around. Don’t go for the first photographer you meet or the first DJ etc. 🙂 we got engaged last October and are getting married in June 2018 and we found Venues and photographers get booked years in advance. Have fun!! Xx

UKbride Administrator
UKbride Administrator 1 Nov 2017

We are booked for October 2019 and I have everything booked except flowers and cake, suits and dresses. Where I was booking a supplier that can only do 1 wedding a day (photographer, venue, hair and make up) I made sure they was booked by the summer really but that’s cos I wanted the pick of the best companies and I’m picky. The longer you leave it the less chance you have getting who you want. Have fun planning I love it!

I am getting married June 2019 and just got engaged in July this year. By the end of August I had venue and church booked. If you book this year you should be able to secure better prices. We have already picked bridal party and I am planning on dress shopping after Xmas.

We got engaged in August, and started looking at venues in September, we want to get married in August 2019 but all the dates we wanted were already gone! We've had to compromise on the date we wanted to get the venue we wanted.
I'd recommend looking for your venue asap, and getting that booked, and then everything else can wait! :) good luck! X

Gemma Harris

I got engaged in Feb and we're getting married in Oct 2019 too. I started planning as soon as we booked the venue in August. I've since booked videographer, photographer, registrar, flowers and about to book band. I've got SO much to organise (heavily themed wedding) I'd rather get these out the way and really focus on the look of the event

UKbride Administrator
UKbride Administrator 1 Nov 2017

Congratulations to you both. Our wedding venue is currently receiving lots of enquiries for 2019. If you have a specific date in mind I would advise starting sooner rather than later and particularly if you want your wedding to coincide with the October half term holiday which is always a popular time.
You might also want to bear in mind that Christmas and the New Year are very popular occasions for engagements.

UKbride Administrator
UKbride Administrator 1 Nov 2017

We started planning immediately after announcing our engagement in April. We are having a Saturday wedding in August 2018 and needed a large venue (150 for sit down meal). By April we were a bit limited by availability.

UKbride Administrator
UKbride Administrator 1 Nov 2017

It's never too early..especially for venue and then registrar 2 years to the date you get married. We get marries june 2019 and booked our venue and registrar this year. I have now sorted photographer, bouquets and starting buying bits for centre pieces. The reason for this is money...buy as you go. It all adds up but it doesnt seem as scary if its spread out! Waiting until further down line and seeing the money vanish all at once is what I didnt want. A few quid here and there...I dont miss it and I am pretty much organised now. So take my advice...plan and arrange things soon. Happy planning! :)

I would put deposits down on venue, book the date with your registrar as soon as you can , Make up , photographers , lots leave flowers till last thing my advice bring a florist if your having artificial flowers book in advance as I’m already half booked up for next year and dates in 2019 last thing you want is a beautiful venue , wedding dress but awful flowers as these will be on your photographs for years to come .
