Hope the Mods don't mind but I've noticed there are a lot of ladies already planning for their big day in 2017. So I thought I'd start a thread for us all to share how far we've gotten with planning, what we need to do and any helpful tips and advice.

So I'm Becky, getting married to Mark on 31.12.17. I've now booked the venue and registrar and officially set the date. I've decided to leave all the clothing aspects for another 12-18 months but I have a good idea of what I'd like. For now I'm in the process of (slowly) making my invites and once those are done I'll move on to decorations and then all my other DIY ideas (there is lots of them). As we're having a NYE wedding were going with that as the theme and Black Silver and Red as our colours.

I look forward to chatting with all you other 2017 Brides and joining you on the path to your big day!!

    Finally! \o/

Well, I'm Camila, getting married on 16.02.17 (we are still working on the date because I will be at Uni at the time). We haven't booked anything because I am Brazilian and don't live in England, so I'm doing most of the things by distance. However, I'm in England for the next couple of weeks and we are having a look on venues and trying to talk to the Vicar. We've decided for colours, centerpieces, invites (I'm making them myself)... we are going sloooowly lol

We've decided the venue pretty much but I'm worried about booking because of the insurance not covering the deposit 2 years before

Emily how much is the deposit? You could ask them as it's so far in advance if you could pay a little less (something you could afford to lose if worse comes to worse). Our venue wanted 20% as a deposit but I asked if we could pay 10% as we are booking so early and they were fine with that. I haven't even looked into wedding insurance yet don't even know where to begin lol.
I've never been to Lincoln Camila (i'm a Corninsh girl and true to form I haven't wondered too far from home) is that where your h2b is from? Have you found a few venues you like the look of?

He grew up and lives here. I've found only two places we could afford and we've seen them last week. I don't like one of them, they don't have a bar or a dance floor, or easy parking. So, we are probably going for the hotel I liked, but we're still looking for other options, but I doubt we can find something better.

Im glad im not the only one planning far ahead! Me and kriss are getting married 18/08/17, our venue, registrars and pretty much most of the deposits are paid, we're just struggling to get our mums(mine mainly) on side ad my fiance is a wrestler and he wants to get married in the wrestling ring, the registrar's have okayd this, but a few people who we'd like there have said they won't be attending due to this! Im so frustrated!

Hi all, so nice to find other brides planning this far ahead.

We're getting married May 4th 2017, just shy of ten years together. We've found our venue in Edinburgh (date is held, just gotta submit the paperwork) and will be looking to get the bridesmaids dresses and mine at the start of next year.. Since the reception venue (outdoor ceremony. patio and garden attached to the venue) has quite dark carpets and drapes, we're going with whites and pastels to bring the garden colours indoors.
We've been engaged and bouncing around ideas since 2012 so we've got a good image of what we want for the day.

Met 2004. Together 2007. Engaged 2012. Tying the knot 2017.

hi great to see some more brides to be planning well a head! LeeBee your wrestling wedding is such a unique idea I've never heard of anyone getting married in the ring before, can't to hear how that all comes together for you! Camila the great thing about starting planning so early is there is no rush I know its probably frustrating but you still have plenty of time.
I can't wait to go dress shopping, I keep telling myself there's no point going yet to leave it at least another 12 months, but I can't help searching on line and I'm just itching to start trying them all on!

See I'm worried that if I go now and fall in love with a dress I will either buy it and spend the next 3 years worrying about my weight or not buy it because it's too soon and then won't be able to get hold of it closer to the wedding and won't find another one that lives up to it!!

Mrs D2B if it worries you, I was engaged a long time ago (4/5 years now, only for a couple of months before we realised it wasn't going to work) and I had my eye on a dress that was already a couple of seasons old like maybe a year at that point and you can still find it online now, just only second-hand but it's like £900 cheaper for that fact. So depending on what type of dress it is (like Maggie Sottero, Stella York or whatever) you might find that you can get it in 18 months time. Maybe even from one of the big bridal outlets in London and Birmingham, for a lot less, because they stock the old season/end of season stuff? xx

Thanks mrs d2b! The other halfs organising it all so we'll see! I've just got the bridesmaids and the "little bits" like the cake, flowers, registrars ect hes got the venue and ring, ive found my perfect dress so im leaving him with it! I wouldve been just as happy going to the registry office, but he won't allow it! I found my dress a few months ago, its a ronald joyce dress, and the shop owner has kindly agreed to do a payment plan, as it was a little over my original budget and they're going to order it closer to the time for me! With my bridesmaids i found infinity dresses on etsy , they are amazing, and my bridesmaids love them because it's the same dress but you can wear it 20 different ways!

We've changed the wedding date! We went to see the hotel and the Vicar. Since the hotel doesn't apply different prices for weekdays or weekends, we've booked the church for the 18th of February 2017 instead of the 16th :)
So, yep, church booked! \o/ Though the Vicar was clear that we'll go through a process because I'm from a different country :(

Just readin this through and I have already bought ,y dress for oct 2017.
I'm fairly stable weight wise but it's still a little big for me and even with heels 4 inches too long so will need alterations anyway.
I didn't go out shopping to buy. Went to scout out an outlet shop to see if they were any good (was told this one could be hit and miss) and fell in love. As it was outlet I had to buy there and then

If you've found one you love and you know that you'll have no issues altering it if needs be that's great news that's another biggy crossed off your list!!
How did your venue viewing go Catherine?
Amy I don't think it would hurt to send out STD's now (don't forget to let guests know where they need to fly to even if you don't want to tell them where the hotel is). Have you checked to see if you can get prices for 2017 flights yet?
I've got a few more bits crossed off my list, I've potentially stumbled upon a fireworks display (courtesy of my dad) and it should be a fraction of the price I have been quoted by others. And I am currently waiting on a contract from a fun casino to read over before I sign on the dotted line pay the deposit and get that booked. Invites are underway too (getting the pocket folds and inserts put together and will print the invites closer to the time and stick them on to the invites) Once those are done I will probs start on some of the other stationary. Can't do my STD's yet tho as I have an idea but won't be able to sort it out until this xmas at the earliest, but there is no rush as I won't be sending them out until Dec 2016!

haven't set an exact date - waiting to find a venue we can afford to check their availability then jobs a good'un!

Already looking at bridesmaids dresses, dec's and what I can get away with diy'ing. Thinking of carving pumpkins with hearts as decorations and having sparklers. Just wish I could find a venue to imagine it all in.

How have you picked them? Have you already drawn up your guest list?
To start with we made the mistake of booking an apt with a venue and then when the quote came through was more than we were expecting because they have a minimum numbers. If we would have done our proper guest list first and then looked at venue numbers then we would have found our venue a lot sooner.

For us the guestlist came side by side with the budget so we knew how many guests we could afford and really helped narrow down venues 

Emily we wrote up our guest list so we had rough numbers then I looked for venues online in my local area that would cater for the numbers.

Looks like we may have to cull a few for the day as it stands because of the cost, although we're now toying with the idea of having a week day wedding. Then we're more likely to afford where/what we want without having to compromise...... One of the places I'm looking at is half price during the week!

I work shifts anyway as does some of my family so weekends make no difference with taking time off. We figured that since it's over 2 years away it gives people enough time to book leave from work etc. also during half term so my nieces and nephews can come.

What are you doing at uni Mrs d2b? When I was there I was only in 3 days a week so maybe you'll still have lots of time?

Everything ahaha, still looking for a band/singer, need to confirm that my friend would be happy to dj, got to finish my invites, start the STD's and other stationary. Need to make my table decorations, table plan and cake stand. Confirm and pay deposit for cake and photographer (both friends of mine tho so may not need to pay a deposit). I also want to sort out childcare for the evening (thinking once lo starts nursery I'll wait to who she bonds with, who i like, and then ask to see if they would be willing to work for me on NYE. Sort out all wedding attire, flowers, hair (although I think I have another friend doing that just need to confirm with her) make-up, gifts for bridal party and groomsmen, sort out favours (still not sure as to what to do). Need to give notice 10-12 months previous to the wedding, I'm hoping the registrar's will write and remind me of this as I will be super busy by that point. And at some point I'll need to go do a menu tasting and decide on food. I've probs forgotten loads as well :( Really want to have all that sorted by August next year so that I can focus 100% on my work with no distractions, and then once that's done with any luck I'll be straight into a job and again won't have much time for anything wedding related

I'm surprised its that much of a difference. where we were looking there wasn't much of a difference at all.. if any,.

I'm sure you will have some time to do some of the smaller bits. have you designed your STDs and other stationary?
I'm working full time at the moment and am finding it ok with the planning. just get a bit tired as don't have much of a break some days when home from work. the most difficult thing I'm finding is getting apts. but that's more because my OH works Saturday everyweek so getting us both together is a nightmare.

I also found there was a big difference between weekday and weekend prices, you could also cut costs by having a later ceremony and then cutting out canapes and if you want the wedding breakfast all together and just having an evening buffet.
I'll be doing my PGCE (I want to teach early years) so a full time course plus work experience and looking after my lo who will be 3 then and keeping our family home from collapsing around my ears I really won't have any spare time I'm going to have to give up my job in order to make sure I'm not under too much pressure will be the first time since I was 15 I'll be "unemployed" :(
I've decided what I'm going to do for the STD's and the stationary but haven't started on those yet. I'm going to wait until winter this year before starting the STD's as I want a photo of me and h2b under the mistletoe with lo stood in front with a sign saying "Mummy and Daddy are saying "I do" 31.12.17" (or something along those lines) which I will then have printed as an xmas card to send out xmas 2016.

haha Emily lo is a full time job in herself I don't know how I manage to juggle work and her as it is let alone throwing in a PGCE. It's an intense course (basically 3 years work squeezed into one) with 16 weeks work experience included so my holidays will be spend doing assignments! If I get a job straight away (fingers crossed) I'll have the summer holiday but most of that will be spent lesson planning sorting out my classroom and getting ready to start in September.

It's a post graduate degree (I already have 1 degree) so the theory is we already have the basics needed to do the course therefore they can squeeze in everything we need to know about teaching into one year, it will basically be a really intense version of a B'Ed which is a 3 year course into teaching
