Soooo happy! So today I bought my Wedding dress!! At Last.
I've tried on over 150 dresses and thought I would never have 'that moment' where you just know that it's your dress, as everything was falling short of my high expectations, or I wasn't happy to layover my £2K budget for something I would see as 'settling'.
Anyways, today I had a Trunk Show booked in, in Sevenoaks for a famous Israeli designer (details and pictures on my photo albums), and I honestly didn't think I was going to buy anything, so didn't take any money with me or anything, and just went with my Mum, anyways, 3 dresses in, and I find 'the one'! I put it on, and the minute I did, I just knew it was meant to be mine, besides a couple of minor alterations! But it's like nothing I've ever seen, I was shaking and sweating, I got goosebumps, and I just knew that I couldn't leave the shop without ordering it!
So I asked the price and it was £7400!!!! BUT, as it was a trunk show, I got 30% off if I ordered today, and then she would take a little bit more off to bring it down to £5K! Totally over budget, but after a quick phone call and a small bit of unashamedly pleading to my Fiancé, I ordered the dress and I couldn't be happier!!!
Check my pictures and let me know what you think?! BTW it's so much more intricate and amazing in real life close up! Xx

I know! I feel guilty for spending that much on a DRESS, but I have just applied for a part time job, so I worked out that if I save at least £200 a month until the 2017 wedding, then I would have paid off roughly £4K of it. And I plan on getting my partner to make me a shadow box to display it in my house afterwards, and then my daughter can either use it too, or take a bit of lace off the bottom for her garter or something?! X

Sorry but have seen much nicer dresses for a fraction of the price. Can't believe anybody with half a brain would be silly enough to pay that or even have the audacity to brag when that's some people's whole budget.

Ouch Cathy! I went to a wedding fair today and my mum and myself sat and watched the fashion show even though I've already got my dress and some of the dresses I hate whereas I could hear the girl sitting next to me saying how much she liked the ones I didn't, so we're all different and wouldn't it be boring if every bride wore the same dress! I wouldn't pay £5k for a dress, but that's me and it's probably not a dress I would choose to wear, but Nikki loves it and that's all that matters, regardless of the cost etc.

If it's the dress, if you can afford it, even if it means another job, then so be it, you could try and get a replica or similar but it would not be that one.

Nikki - everyone on the site is not against expensive weddings. There's people on here having weddings ranging right from £2000-£40000

Ok so people have put a couple of your posts together and have got upset over them - similar to how you were upset over your proposal. There's lots of reasons why people might be upset and yes some comments have gone too far but it's certainly not an indication of the full UKbride forum... It is a lot of money on the dress but if it's the dress you've put on and loved then that's great. Everyone has different taste .. If they didn't then picking a dress would be a piece of cake and that it certainly is not. Personally I wouldn't spend that much on a dress purely because the shops I looked in had the most expensive gowns at about 1.5k and I loved practically every dress I tried so I was easily pleased but you wanted something more specific and you have what you ultimately see yourself writing a new chapter of your life in. Maybe it would be best to just draw a line under the last few threads and start a fresh

Becci, yes I know, I just got carried away in my last post as I was very angry that people are speaking about the money in a negative way, and I don't understand why, when it's not their money? I've seen quite a few comments on other posts that aren't my own that I have refrained from commenting on, as I don't want to ostracise myself from the site, where people have been slating fancier weddings with a bigger price tag. Mine isn't anywhere near the higher end of the budget, which is why I plan on getting a job.
I didn't mean to bag everyone together when I wrote that, just the ones that have expressed that they think I'm materialistic, when I even said it's a ridiculous price, etc.
Sorry if I offended anyone other than the person I was addressing, it wasn't meant to upset anyone. X

It's not that you've intentiallg upset people so don't worry about it! People are very emotional where weddings are concerned .. And as they say it brings out the brideZilla in all women so don't worry about it .. I'm sure everyone will have forgotten about this by the end of the week and everyone will continue to support you in your wedding planning .. Are you doing your own stationery? The posters and things you've done look really good so I'm sure you can make some amazing stationery!

Yes, I think that must be it. We all have different opinions, and some can seem a bit hostile in text. I hope so, as I don't want to have to watch what I say regarding money in any other posts, as I think it's interesting to hear from different brides with different budgets so I can find bargains that I wouldn't normally have known about, and also find out how much people think is reasonable for guests to fork out etc!
I'm planning on making most of the signage and table plan etc, but would like to have professional invitations printed as I almost always hand make the invites for everything else, so would like a change! X

cathy is a little jealous, i think. just because that may be someones budget doesn't mean diddly squat, unless everyone is supposed to have a budget wedding so people won't be bitter? another persons finaces and disposable income is B*gger all to do with anyone else. I'm sure we would all love extra spending money for our wedding!

nIKKI, IF YOU HAVE THE MONEY TO SPLASH OUT (Bah caps, sorry) then you do that. If other people can say how little they are spending, why can't others say how much they are spending, its all about grace. Something which Cathy seems to lack.

My dream dress retails at about... god, I think it's like £8,000 but I can never remember if that's what it is in dollars or if that was the converted amount. Either way, if I could have gotten another job to pay for it I can tell you now I would have!!! Lol. R0m0na K3v3va RK 525... I've ended up with something completely different for a fraction of the cost, but all I can say is good for you!! I see my dream dress all over pinterest and frequently pout at it! And if I won the lottery tomorrow, it would be the first damn thing I went out to buy!!

Oh this wasn't in a dress shop, it was a boutique designer find that you can only ever get from somewhere in London where you have to pay £25 just to have the appointment... I never saw any over £2k in the shops I went to but I was stupid and browsed pinterest first! Lol.

I think it's a stunning dress and well done on getting £2500 off the retail price :)

My bride friend is spending 1600 on her dress and the rest of her wedding is only costing 4000, but when it's the one for you and you know you can pay for it with extra funds and in installments then go for it! My dress budget will be significantly less but still hoping I can get a stunner for the money paid.

Thanks ladies! I also tried on loads of dresses and the most expensive ones before the last shop I went to were max £3900, and I thought that was extortionate!
My second and third choices were £1900 and £2300 so it was a huge jump, but when you know, you just know! I know that if my OH had said no, and I couldn't get a job to pay for it, I would have just gone for the £1900 dress as I did also love that dress!
The only reason it's Sooo pricey is because it's Couture. I was looking for a dress similar to Michelle Keegan's originally, but hers was £9K from G@l!@ L@h@v I do believe!
Myranny, I did the exact same thing and fell in love with a dress on P!ntr€St and couldn't find the name anywhere! Then I finally found it and a shop in London stocked it, but then I saw that it wasn't fishtail like I originally thought, it was actually sheath, and that doesn't suit my figure that well, so then I sort of got over the fact that I couldn't have it anyways! Xx
