I have just been quoted £310 for someone to dress my venue for me, this includes 65 chair covers & organza sashes ,
8 centre pieces, full candy cart or ferris wheel candy cart with pic n mix & bags- scoop, sign & bag holder hire included, 8 table runners, post box, wishing tree, prop box hire, 8 table number holders, 65 personalised love heart favour packs and table scatters.
To be honest I don't need the prop box so will probs cut that out and I'm not really bothered by the post box and candy cart but might as well have them. I had originally planned to do the center pieces and set up etc myself but thinking about it I don't want to have to be rushing around the day before and on the morning of my wedding especially as I get really wound up when things don't look exactly as I expect them.
But before making a decision I thought I would ask here what other people are doing for their big day? Are you paying out to have someone do this stuff for you? Is it worth it? And those who are doing it yourself are you glad you are? Or is it more hassle than it's worth?
    TIA ladies xx

I'm paying someone to dress our venue (chair covers etc). I don't think I would want the hassle myself on the morning or night before.

I might do my own Sweety table but I haven't decided yet.

Im paying someone to do my chair covers and sashes, but that's only costing £70, I am making my own post-box, the venue provide the centre pieces and were doing out own sweetie table. Personally I think that's quiet expensive but its up to you what you want to do DIY xx

How many chair covers are you getting for £70 Sarah? My venue doesn't supply center pieces, they have very kindly offered to leave their xmas decs up for us (NYE wedding) so that will considerably reduce the area that needs decoration. I did do a trial on my own center pieces but I would struggle to do exactly what I want for under £15per table which works out at £120 for centerpieces plus all the effort put into them. I thought it was a good offer, but maybe I have just been blinded by the price and the idea of having someone else do the hard work for me

I am having 70 chair covers and sashes, I shopped around as some quotes I got were ridiculous £3.50-£5 per chair!

It does seem quiet a lot for your money but I just find doing it myself quiet fun and I don't need to consider centre pieces either, my post box was cheap and I bought some nice things to decorate it too which were also cheap xx

We are buying a few DIY bits, I'm going to decorate our own box for the cards, name cards etc.

The lady who I found is doing chairs & centre-pieces is charging £140 for 76 chairs and 8 or 9 centre-pieces.

I'm going to go see this lady and speak to her in person on Saturday about what I want exactly, from what you ladies have been quoted I'm now questioning whether this is such a great deal, she only wants £25 deposit so figured it wasn't a lot to loose if I change my mind, and a great deal if I don't, now I'm questioning that theory lol. Glad I asked tho!!

I think that sounds a really good price Mrs D2B considering how much you're getting for your money and also the labour costs.. would definitely save you a lot of hassle.

Our venue will be doing ours for us. I will be writing a very thorough list of instructions though so everything is done exactly how I want!!!

I paid for someone to do ours, it was great as I just wandered around with my hair done to see what was going on the morning of, then went back to finish getting ready knowing everythingwas coming together! Hubby did some chair juggling when he arrived but nothing major :)

We are roping in friends and family to help with ours but to be honest the barn is so beautiful we don't need a huge amount done, just people to transport it all on the morning.

I think thats a good quote for the amount of stuff you are getting. And if you don't want it all, see if they will reduce it so you only pay for what you want. X

Ok I've had a think, the promotion to get all mention above ends tomorrow but I can't get to see the lady until saturday so I'm going to pay the deposit to secure the promotional price(only £25 deposit required) and then on Saturday see how far I can tweek the package so that I really am getting what I need and if I'm happy I'll confirm the booking, if not I "only" lose £25. The more I think about it the more I want someone to come do the hard work for me I think life is going to be hectic enough around the wedding without throwing in the stress of having to make and set up decorations. Thank you for all your input ladies x

I've not even thought of this ... And now I'm doubting whether I should be !!

I assume our venue do the chair covers and sashes because we're paying £2 per chair .. We've started to make our own centre pieces and things but maybe foolishly thought the venue would just set these out on the tables?

I think we need a meeting with the venue to clarify!

We are very lucky that our venue is doing all the decorating and the chair covers. I just need to drop of everything I have brough E.g. post box, centerpieces, candy cart etc and they will set everything out for us. For the centerpieces they have asked for photos so they no exactly how I want it.

I would definatly not want to set up myself to much stress on a day when you need to relax and enjoy the moment xx

I don't know if our venue will. I keep trying to encourage a meeting with the venue sooner rather than later but mums like there's at least 50 brides more important than you right now getting married before you so you really don't need to be going to the venue to discuss things yet but these are all questions we need to ask now!

so gone ahead and booked, changed a few things around in the package and now have a table plan instead of a prop box and table number holders so really happy with that. I didn't realise I would have to pay a breakages deposit (just didn't cross my mind) but if all goes back as it arrived we will get all of that back, so the package works out at £370 (inc deposit) so I'm happy with that. So that's the tables and chairs sorted, the venue will be leaving up there xmas decs (which I will rearrange to suit me when I get there) and still need to talk to a florist (not wanting loads of flowers mainly mistletoe lol). Is there any other venue decorations I need to think about?

Mrs D2B what about around the cake? we have brought MRS & MR blocks to put on either side of the cake and are you having anything on the top table?

I didn't think of that .. I did email her when we originally booked the wedding so I'll have her email address somewhere. I'm wondering whether to just be patient and wait a few more months though I really don't know! All the checklists people give you have silly time scales on like leaving cars until 6 months before .. If you do that now you're never going to get the car you want! I booked ours nearly 18 months in advance and he was booking up fast

Baker2Be I plan on making a cake stand for the cake to make it really stand out (all in my DIY album) so not sure I would need a topper as well. As for the top table I'm not sure what to do about that, I was thinking of just having the same centerpieces as the other tables as with the way the venue is laid out the top table isn't a focal point (if you know what I mean).
Becci93 I also find the time scales are all out, I booked our venue 33months in advance and have already booked the photographer the venue decorator and the fun casino but I'm still starting to get a little panicky about everything else that needs to get booked in case I miss out lol

Our venue does all of this for us, thankfully, and chair covers came in as part of the package price. I am making most of our table things, but they have said if we drop everything off to them the day before, they will set everything up. Feel thankful that it's one less thing to have to think about.

I would pay someone to dress it for me if I'm honest. I looked at so many DIY venues, and my OH said that for the amount of money we would be spending on the day, he didn't want to spend the morning getting sweaty and putting decorations up, and then us rushing around to get ready, he would rather that we cut something else off the budget. So I think you've definitely made the right decision to go ahead and book it! Will take a load off on the day! Good luck! X

We are opting for a 'budget' type venue that is more of an events place rather than a proper wedding venue. Due to this we (by that I mean *I* lol) will be doing a lot of DIY for our venue dressing. I will still be renting furniture and getting help with flowers etc. but will try and sort the finishing touches myself.
