Don't know if this has been a topic recently so apologies if it has! So how did everyone's OH (or themselves!) pop the question?

We were in Dublin for my 23rd birthday last October and my OH asked me in our hotel room at midnight with a card saying Happy Birthday Fiance on it. After telling me earlier on in the day that he hadn't even bought a ring (trying to put me off the scent!) xx

My OH took me out to dinner (the night before my uni exams) cause I was stressed out and asked me at the end of the meal. It was so sweet nice and simple (just like I wanted) the people at the table next to us started to smile and clap (the daughter had said to them "that man just put a ring in the ladies finger" she didn't understand what it meant) it was sweet. It definitely took away all my exam nerves (& I did pass with good grades which surprised me cause I couldn't stop staring at ring all through the exam maybe that helped). Worst of it is he thought I had ruined the surprise was looking for something and opened the (empty apart from the ring box) drawer and shut it again saying the whatever it was isn't there (I hadn't even seen the box and have no idea how I didn't) x

    How lovely Sam :)

    Mine was much less glam!

OH had picked the ring up from the shop but hadn't decided when he was going to ask. That evening was as normal as any other. Home from work, cooked dinner, watched a bit of TV. I was desperate for a shower so I said I was going up. He followed me, not unusual as if I'm not downstairs he often goes up to play on his games. Got me in the bedroom and positioned me perfectly in one of the red diagonal sections of his union flag rug told me he had something to give me and to close my eyes (he asked what I thought it was and I said a bar of soap!) then when I opened my eyes he was on one knee xx

I asked him later how he had planned to do that which is when he told me he had only got the ring that day and he said that it just seemed like the most perfect evening and that he wanted every evening to be like that which is so sweet xxx

OH asked me on Christmas Day 2013, we had just moved into our first house together and Christmas is my favourite time of year. He gave me all of my presents then told me to close my eyes as he had one more for me, when I opened them he was down on one knee :) xx

This is the one thing that niggles with me because we don't really have an engagement story as such. We were just in bed one morning chatting and we got talking then decided to go ring shopping so there was never a 'will you marry me?' moment! We were going to wait until Christmas Day, plan a proposal and do that but it never happened as our rings arrived in September and we didn't want to wait/take the rings off :(

My OH made me a three course meal, set the table all nicely with flowers, candles, etc. When he brought the "pudding" out he placed a plate in front of me with an upside down bowl on top of it. He told me to lift the bowl up so I did and underneath was the ring in the open box, by the time I'd turned round to him he was down on the floor next to me on one knee. He cried after I'd said yes with relief! xx

Oh I love hearing these wonderful stories!

I had a rough start to the year as my mother passed away (after a long illness) in January. My OH was such a rock at that time, I can't even explain how much, but it was obviously a difficult time for both of us.

Our anniversary is the 29th of March which fell on a Sunday this year, and to be honest I wasn't really thinking we would do anything special, but the week before he told me to buy myself a nice dress etc. so I knew something was afoot - didn't consider it would be a proposal though. On the Saturday he took me to a local hotel which has a wonderful restaurant (which we discovered when first 'wooing' and means a lot to us) and they took us up to the main suite with a four poster bed and everything.

I got ready and we went down to dinner and we had a wonderful time. I did wonder fleetingly then if he would ask but he didn't, and I was OK with that, since as I say I didn't expect it.

We checked out the next morning, on our actual anniversary, and as the weather was quite nice (for March) I suggested going for a walk at the countryside park where we had had our first date and kiss. We rambled around and eventually got to the spot where we had had our first kiss and I saw someone had written 'lover's bench' on the seat there. I was laughing and taking a photo when I turned to face him and found him down on one knee! He opened the box and showed me the ring which was my mother's eternity ring. It is a beautiful ring and so dear and familiar, when I looked down and saw it I felt like she was there with us.

Later on he said he was so chuffed that I had suggested going to the countryside park as that was what he was planning, but wasn't sure if I'd find it too obvious! Was a really special weekend and so wonderful after a dark few months.

Oh sorry I wrote an essay! :\

We were at my step mums 65th birthday party and I knew H2B was speaking to my dad about in the near future would you give ur blessing etc etc.....

Little did I know he was asking my dad if he could ask me that night!!

My H2B isn't very good at keeping secrets but he played a blinder that night and I didn't have a clue.

Towards the end of the evening, the dancing commenced and H2B said we will have a slow dance at the end.... 'Miraculously', our song came on and we both jumped on the dance floor. The song came to an end and as I turned to go back to my seat, he grabbed my hand and out of the corner of my eye, I saw my dad hand him a microphone!!! A friend recorded it all and you can hear me saying 'Oh no'!! Lol

He got down on one knee in front of MY family and friends and proposed.... Of course I said yes.

Still to this day cannot believe, my dad, step mum and the DJ knew and for once he never let out the secret.....

I watch the proposel over and over again and my smile beems every time

I don't really have a 'proposal' story either.

It was on my brothers birthday BBQ and we were all out on the decking with him and his friends and my dad. My mum was recovering from a cancer scare after having surgery so she stayed inside all evening. We'd talked about it and both had said we've never wanted to get married until meeting each other but we'd only been together for 10 months so I assumed it wasnt for the near future. Anyway they all left and it was me, my dad, brother and OH in the kitchen when he mentioned about marriage - he started talking to my dad and basically asked for his blessing, dad said 'as long as she's happy then I'm happy' he got down on 1 knee there and then and pulled out my nan's eternity ring - which I didn't even realise he had (been in my jewellery box for years) of course I said yes. We then heard a voice from upstairs as my mum had gone to bed moaning 'but I didn't see it etc etc' so we went upstairs and proposed all over again!

Over 2 years later were living together and there's just over 9 months till the wedding! xx

Awww all these stories are lovely. I think its just as nice if you decide together to get engaged. If I hadn't already sent the link to my ring to OH (which he happily bought!) then I would have liked to have shopped for my own xx

I get what you mean Sam, when I saw mu ring I didn't like it. But OH had bought it for me and that was all that mattered. I love it now but would have got one that was much smaller and didn't stick out as much.

I wear my Great nans engagement ring everyday. would have been lovely for it to be my engagement ring but I had already been wearing it for years when he proposed so he would have had to take it off me and get it resized (which I would have been fuming about)

We were staying at his parents place in France. It's our favourite place in the whole world and we used to have our holidays there every year (the villa has since been sold due to his mum's health)

So anyway, my oh said we're going to Hotel D'Alibert for a romantic meal, just the two of us. Nothing unusual. Just the two of us in a restaurant, but then I realised it was his mum's birthday to which he said that his mum and dad had already booked to go to another restaurant and this was the only chance we have of going to alibert (it is our favourite restaurant)

So we get to the restaurant and sit down. The owner had a pianist, which i thought was strange but i convinced myself it was because it was a saturday. We ate our starter and main. When we finished our main, my oh says "I have something for you" and gets the ring box out of his pocket. He opened it and he told me that it was his Auntie Kay's ring and told me how his mum and his other Auntie were discussing how we have been together for so long and yet not even engaged yet. It was apparently months of planning! He was telling me all this and he nearly forgot to say "will you marry me" but he eventually did and I said yes.

When the ring was on my finger, the whole restaurant erupted with a round of applause. When people were leaving the restaurant, they were coming up to us congratulating us and wishing us happiness for the future.

    An absolutely magical evening x

I got to know my husband through a choir after he was roped in to help out, so he proposed on stage during a choir concert. We sang a duet that I unsuspectingly picked called All I Ask of You from Phantom of the Opera, which is basically an engagement song. He and the choir director, who was in on it, worked out choreography so that he could hide the ring in his fist and reveal it at the end of the song. We got a standing ovation from the audience.

    Love these stories

My OHs proposal wasn't a total surprise as we'd chosen my ring together online (he wanted to be sure I'd like it lol). He took me out for a meal at the restaurant where we had our first date, the night we went they had a singer as entertainment and every time my OH was about to propose the singer would sing something inappropriate (Love On The Rocks was one that I remember him singing)! He finally did it part way through dessert, down on one knee, the works. The lady on the next table was as excited as we were I think, she immediately congratulated us and asked to see the ring!

I looked up to find OH on bended knee, was a complete shock as OH never seemed fussed with marriage, I just kept asking him if he was serious ! Then said yes obviously! Xx

These are all so lovely! Mine wasn't anything extravagant but it was so 'us'.

It was a Sunday and I was working and OH wasn't so I asked if he'd cook a roast for when I got home. Well.. when I got home, he'd blitzed the flat, got flowers and candles and my favourite wine so I had a feeling something was going on. He was very fidgety and was getting through the wine rather quickly (unlike him as he's not really a drinker!) So I started panicking and thinking oh no what's happened why is he being so nice!? And I asked him if he'd done anything wrong, which he said no. Well the dinner was lovely but he was very quiet and didn't really talk so afterwards when we were sitting on the sofa I got the humpf a little bit and was like "what is going on??" And then he got down on one knee and pulled out the ring! Of course my bad mood disappeared quite quickly after that! :D x

We were in New York, it was the second day we were there and decided to get up early and hit the empire state building before the queues built up.
We went through the security scanners, and OH got pulled over and asked "What's in your pocket??". He pulled out a small heart shaped stone which had "Marry me" carved into it! I just stood there stunned, the female security guard looked embarrassed and told him it was fine as long as he didn't intend to throw it off the top!
But this meant OH was in a grump ALL DAY! We had planned to go to central park that afternoon and he was going to do it then, so essentially the security guard had outed him.

He made me wait a full 24 hours before he finally asked while we were sitting in Washington square park eating cupcakes :)

Ours was in Tunisia in September 2014, after dinner one evening he wanted to walk on the beach but as we stepped outside, it was throwing it down so we just went back to our room - I didn't think anything of it! The next night, he suggested a walk on the beach again after dinner so we went but as we got there we realised that the gates to the beach we're closed/locked (it was a resort hotel) so once again we went back to our room. He said, shall we sit on the balcony for a while so we went out and stood overlooking the sea, then he got down on one knee with a ring and proposed. It wasn't THE ring as he had left that at home for safety. I was worried about losing it in the case and was going to bring in hand luggage but then worries that security would take it out for some reason and I would see it so put a cheap one in his suitcase, just so he had something to propose with but it didn't cost much if it got lost.

He got down on one knee again when we got home, with the real ring :) x x

Loving reading all these stories makes me so emotional! Our story isn't a typical proposal story, but its the best I could of asked for its so special to us and I love our story xx

We got engaged last October, we were away on a trip to London together for shopping and sightseeing, on the last night of our trip we got back the hotel (which he had went all out on and booked us a 5 star with a spa!) we had been out for a lovely meal and as we were up early the next morning for our flight home, it wasn't a late one, we got snuggled up in bed and were watching family guy of all things, when we started talking about how nice a time we had and he asked me my favourite part of the trip, we got onto talking about the future etc, I said something about we will spend the rest of our lives together, he responded saying so when I propose do I need to make a big scene and get down on one knee, me still not clicking onto where he was going with this said no I don't care about all that I just want to be engaged to you and know we will be getting married, he responded with - so will you agree to be stuck with me forever and he pulled out the ring and I just cried! I was so happy and shocked and of course I said yes! I couldn't sleep that whole night I kept checking my ring was there and i hadn't dreamt it lol!

I was in England for a year, so it was time to come back to Brazil. The day I came back was our first anniversary. We went to the airport about 10h before my flight. We spent the night there, I was crying like a baby for all the time. He was so cute, taking care of me all the time. And then, when it was time for me to board, he just proposed. It was, so far, the best day of my life...

We've been together for over two years, but we've known each other for 13 years :) he's recently joined the RAF and during his 10 week training we could only see each other on the odd weekend. I mentioned that when the weather gets better, I'd like to go back to the local Lavender fields whilst they're in bloom.

A few weeks ago, we were just gonna drive to the next town and wander around the shops and he mentioned that he has a fun idea and was wondering what the weather was going to be like. It was only going to be very sunny during the morning so he diverted away from the town and we ended up in the lavender fields.

Once there, we strolled through the lavender up to the top of the fields and we were talking about how the sun shining onto the purple Lavender looked romantic. He was looking around a lot and then said "to make this moment more perfect. " and got down on one knee to ask :) and presented me the most beautiful ring ^.^ it glows under UV! How cool is that?

We're now planning our wedding and hoping for early autumn next year :)

I had no idea OH was going to propose. He'd been ring shopping with his mum as I'd always liked hers.

His plan was to do it on my birthday as we were going out for a meal with our LO but it was a rainy day so we had a drive to a garden centre and had a lovely family day. When we got back he said he'd got to go and see my dad (it was to ask his permission) then on the way back he went to his mums to pick the ring up. All day he'd been saying do you want an early birthday present and I kept saying no. My birthday is 3 days away, I can wait.

He came home and took LO in to another room whilst I was making tea. OH gave me a bag so I opened it and it was a jumper ( I thought this is strange, why would he want to give me this early) whilst I was holding it up saying thank you OH had got down on one knee with our LO next to him and asked if I'd marry him. I started crying, OH was crying. Obviously I said yes. I much preferred him doing it at home rather than in a restaurant full of people lol x

My partner and I have been together for 15 years since I was 17. Our 15 year anniversary was oct 2014 and we were planning on going away but my dad had to have a hip op- which incidentally got cancelled as he had an allergic reaction on the operating table.

Anyway for Xmas my oh bought my a weekend in Venice at Easter .

All the girls in the office were saying he would propose - I was like, well he hasn't for 15 years so why would he now?

So on easter Sunday, after a long day of walking round, marvelling the beautiful city, I suggested we had a coffee on the hotel balcony which over looked the grand canal. It was just me and him, sat quietly watching the world go by. He suddently rummaged in his rucksack and gave me an Easter bunny Tin and said happy Easter. I was like, I haven't bought you anything. So I opened the tin and looked at the eggs and said, aww that's sweet, then saw a bit of tissue paper. As I unwrapped the tissue paper he was already down on 1 knee. It was such a stunning ring, fitted perfectly and more than I ever imagined. Before we left he even rung my dad to ask his permission. ( dad lives in Scotland and we on Sutton)

Needless to say I rung dad straight away and he was bursting with joy and had already told half the neighbours as couldn't keep it a secret

In the evening we found a lovely little restaurant full of locals and treated us to a slap up 3 course meal with prosecco

It was such a perfect proposal and shows he just a romantic at heart :-)
