i have picked this dress but wanted to see what it looked like with and without a hoop underneath before committing to it. My bridal shop didn't have one in stock and won't do before i have to put down a deposit. This is it on me without a hoop underneath and the pics from the website but i can't find any one definitely wearing a hoop to gauge the difference in appearance. It is Sottero and Midgley Angelette if you look it up.

I think the model is wearing one from the way it is sitting. I don't think you need a big one, I got mine from the bay for a tenner, might be worth getting one and if you don't like it then you've not spent a fortune.

I'd prob get a small hoop for the simple fact that the dress won't gather around your legs as you walk. Beautiful dress by the way

I have a medium hoop and to be honest it improves the look and shape of my dress dramatically....

If you get the chance to try it with then great but if not, like GF said, get a cheap (price wise) from the bay x

I tried that dress on and loved the sparkle, I defo think a hoop will help as it will give it more or a shape. X

With this style of dress I would definitely wear a hoop to give it some shape as well as was mentioned before that you don't want it gathering around your legs when you walk.

For a softer look go for no hoop petticoat but i prefered the hoop. Mine only has 1 in i think its jupon 190 works perfectly with my romantica monte carlo dress :-)

U need to try it with a few dif ones as i first tried a smaller one and didnt get thr same effect as i do with mine x

Im hiring it from the shop but theyve set me a brand new 1 aside its in with my dress as it needed altering theyve done it now so they it keeps its shape (and size) for me and then they eill let it out after for others

Personally I'd go for a softer more natural look and get a layered petticoat for volume. I'm not a fan of hoops, hated them when I tried them with dresses when I was dress shopping.

thanks for all your replies, so i bit the bullet and popped into the shop and tried it on with a hoop. Don't ask me the brand but it was a size 4? the biggest was size 5 but they didn't have one in stock. This is what it looks like with the hoop. What do you think?

Definitely much better. Try with a layered petticoat too, you get the volume but with a softer look and feel.

That type of dress you can go bigger, personally I like it with how you have it with the hoop in the pics. Just enough to give it some ooommmph.

definitely going with the hoop look. Might even look at a 2/3 hoop petticoat. Make it flare out like a true ball gown. EEEEEEEK so many choices and looks to be achieved by something so simple!!!

Whats the difference between getting a hoop to adding in an underskirt?

A hoop means less fabric layers whilst still giving your skirt shape and also freedom of movement for your feet so you're not tripping over skirts. A hoop can come with additional fabric layers on top if you wish and the hoops come in different sizes and styles too depending on your dress style.

I found when wearing layers and layers of underskirt I became very hot quickly whereas when I wore the hoop I felt easier to move around and bit cooler.

Everyone has different preferences and I would always recommend (depending on your dress) trying both with a seamstress first to get an idea what you're comfortable with.

I'm toying with the same issue hoop or no hoop - mines an A-line lace and when I first tried it on I thought it needed to be bigger so I tried a skirt - it felt better on and I thought it looked better from above - i got photos with and without the hoop and decided the dress looked better without in the photos but yours suits both but I'm swaying to with the hoop because it makes the back even more floaty and you won't have fabric between your legs etc
