So I had my first day of wedding dress shopping last week. Only one shop but tried on about 12 dresses.

It was lovely... but having tried on several dresses, I didn't fall in love with any of them. I now know what shape suits me best (mermaid) and that I quite like a lot of detail, but you hear so often that a bride falls in love with the first or second dress and then comes back to that one. There were two that I liked above the rest, but not so much that I actually would have wanted it to be "the dress"

If I'm honest, I'm a bit put out thinking it might be difficult for me to find something. I know it's only one shop, but I went to the biggest bridal shop in the area for first appointment and tried on SO many over nearly 2 hours (they had no other customers, on a weekday so gave me all the time I wanted)

Was this anyone else's experience? Did you then find your dress? How long did it take you? I have another appointment on Saturday so maybe I'll find something there, but this one will be the smallest boutique in the area I think so I'm not holding out much hope :( I know I've got a lot of time yet, I just thought I would try on a dress after maybe 2 or 3 and immediately like burst into tears and know it was the one. xx

My dress was the 6th one I tried on in the first shop but I tried on about 20 other dresses after that in 3 other bridal stores before going back to it.

I know someone who tried on about 60 dresses and couldn't find the one and had almost given up before she found the one.

Everyone is different. You will eventually find it.

Don't worry about it honestly, I was exactly the same as you and could have written a similar post a few months ago. I went into first shop and liked a few dresses but didn't love any, and went into more shops and didn't love anything, one shop I got through 6 dresses in 25mins including my bridesmaid then trying 3 dresses on. I was getting to point I felt deflated as just thought I would never got ' the one' feeling! Then I went to a lovely new shop tht only had 20dresses in and I thought gosh this place looks expensive and doubt I'll find anything but due to them having less dresses I spread my choices out abit more and tried different things on and really liked this dress that I actually kept on for longer than 5 mins lol but then tried the one after and just fell in love with it and got the feeling I loved it. Went away tried more shops and couldn't get that dress out my head and that's when I knew the dress was the one. I was lucky they then had a sale and I got 20% off and the shop was amazing I asked their opinion on veil and headpiece they gave me choices and I picked the ones I loved so those are sorted too. But honestly Hun keep going and try dresses on outside the box but defo try all the shops you can as they all stock different things. Don't feel deflated some people get it 1st dress some have to shop around I went to over 6 shops and so glad I picked that shop to try on and it looked very expensive but tbh most expensive dress was £1800 I know expensive but the material was expensive feeling and looking and made others feel cheap that I tried after even shops that were £1800+! So check all the shops and go with ur gut x

I looked online at first. Then went to the shop and tried on a few and ordered a totally different one to the one I thought I wanted. Thought about it over night then went back next day and put deposit down on it. Can't wait for it to arrive. Look on internet as you know now what suits you, then go to the shops with style in mind.

I went to 2 shops, both limited me to 4 or 5 dresses. They said any more would have overwhelmed or confused me.

I had seen a dress online and looked up stockists of the designer. This dress was the 3rd one I tried on....

I really liked it, but continued incase there was something better.

Narrowed it down to 3, booked to go back to the 3 a month later only to realise I was comparing them all to the dress I liked.
After a mad dream and one more try of that dress, it suddenly dawned on me it was the one.

I didn't cry, I just couldn't stop smiling at it. This was just over a year ago, and I love it more now than I did when I bought it (had a few wobbly doubts, but putting it back on reassured me it definitely is the one)

I pick it up fully altered on Thursday! And I can't wait

I really wouldn't worry, there are thousands of beautiful dresses out there and 1 with your name on it.. the fun part is trying them all on and seeing whats out there.. enjoy it.. try not to have any expectations.. easier said than done though . personally the smaller boutiques in my opinion are far better than huge ones with hundrerds of dresses.. the smaller ones have the best dresses only.. good luck :)

Oh I'm so glad to hear that, MrsC2bee. I've done a bit of looking around online and every time I find a dress that I think "Wow!" which has happened about 3 times, they've been off the runway, Romona Keveza or Berta Bridal and upwards of £6,000 which is just a no! Lol.

Leasa, your dress is lovely :) Suits you very well.

Thanks EmmaG. Hopefully this one on Saturday will be good. They do have St3ll@ Y0rk, and I like a couple of her dresses, as well as 3ss3nc3 of @ustr@li@ so we shall see!

Thanks ladies. I'm glad it's not just me. Every bride I seem to know found it in the first shop. Lol. xx

Don't panic my first proper dress shop was me and 2 mates going to Cardiff which is an hour away and I tried on about 6-7 dresses and they were nice but not my wedding day nice lol
So I decided to try some on alone in my home city to try and find the style rather than the 1 first of all so I tried on dresses that I knew weren't right but wanted to see shape/style suited me, once I knew what I deco didn't want it did help.

However I did visit family up in Manchester and thought I found a fab dress in Cheshire so about 4 hrs travel each way!

I thought I would try the last few shops in Swansea and went in saying what styles I liked and colour and I saw a dress which looked beautiful but I thought I wouldn't look good in ...... I put it on and I'm not an overly girly or big headed person but I couldn't believe how pretty I looked!

Honestly I think that dress must of been about my 50 dress I tried.

So only advice is know what you don't want as this can help find the one x

Don't worry, you will get there with one. Just because it was the biggest store near by does not mean you won't get one elsewhere. Smaller ones may have more unique ones and you may come across one there.

I found it! It was the first one I tried on in the smallest shop in Norwich! Hah! Then tried on a veil and a headpiece, and literally bought everything there and then, it was so perfect! Couldn't believe it, I was soon chuffed!! Cancelled all my other appointments now, can start looking to dress other people. Hehe xx
