Anyone had to cancel their honeymoon because they have realised they can't manage it?

We have had it booked since sept last year. Our families said they'd help us with a few wedding expenses but so far haven't done so. Not that I expect it, they offered and we had budgeted for it. we've had car problems now.. So we are thinking we will cancel honeymoon. Really gutted about it as we were really looking forward to our first holiday together since we met 9 years ago.
Feeling really deflated and sad :(

so sorry to hear that hun, i do understand what you mean how it can creep up on you. we booked our honeymoon last year and it was £3,800ish and it only dawned on us last week that we have around £2,700 left to pay by june 8th we were like omg!! how about you ask your guests instead of getting money on the day or gifts if they wouldn't mind giving you gift vouchers for the travel agent you went with that? and pay it off that way?
    xx

It does sneak up on you, especially if you thought you had money coming in from other places :(

Could you not speak to your families and explain the situation? I know my mother in law has paid for the suits which she said she would and is going to send us some money for other bits she said they would pay for as well soon, but even though she's almost paid for everything she said she would pay for-she did say to tell her if anything else came up, we're not planning on asking for any more as what she has paid has been a great help. But your families must surely understand that after they have said they will pay for things, you have budgeted thinking those things were sorted?

If not is there no way to save a bit extra each month, or like suggested above ask for money towards the honeymoon for your wedding presents? It just seems such a shame to miss out on the money that you have already paid as a deposit

I know it sounds cheeky, but could you politely ask these family members if the offer of help is still open?

If not, maybe speak to the travel agent and see if you can transfer it to a cheaper holiday that you would be able to afford.

Sorry to hear you are thinking of cancelling :( this is our issue.. we want to book a honeymoon knowing we have definite plans and something to look forward to, but I don't think we could afford to pay off a honeymoon AND the wedding.. even if we could, not sure I would want to put the worry and stress on ourselves. Are you going to be asking for monetary gifts from your guests? I know it's a bit cheeky, but could you maybe set up a honeymoon fund and kindly ask your guests if they would be willing to gift you money early so that you are able to put it towards your honeymoon? xx

Sorry to hear of your trouble! This is exactly why we didn't book a honeymoon and are waiting to see what money we have after the wedding.

I Agree with the others, you may have to be a bit cheeky and ask family that offered to help out and explain that if they can't then that's ok but you will then have to cancel your honeymoon. If they don't realise how much you need it they might not step up and offer it. Good luck x

aww what a shame that you are in this situation I agree with the others about asking your family or guests for a gift of money or travel vouchers. This is what we have asked for from our guests in a polite way of a poem. Im sure most will be happy to help in that way. If not, i think the idea of trying to go for a cheaper holiday or even changing the date to later on rather than loosing your deposit is a worth a try.
Hope you sort it hun keep us informed

Could you maybe change the date of the honeymoon until a few weeks after the wedding and ask your guest instead of buying you gifts that you would prefer if they could put the money they would spend towards the honeymoon. It wont be very nice if you have to cancel it altogether. Hope it all works out x
