Your MOH would be the most important and have the bigger role than the chief bridesmaid. It would be whoever is closest to you. The chief bridesmaid would be a rank below your MOH, but with a bigger title than the other bridesmaids. I'm not sure you would need both though x

I think if having one or the other they would be pretty much the same role. Though I wasn't sure if you were thinking of having a MOH as well as a chief bridesmaid x

I always thought MOH was the one who was the eldest plus married.....chief bridesmaid was the eldest and closest friend who isn't married....not really sure don't think it makes a difference :) Mine is my cousin who is also my best friend - and as OCD with organising as I am ;) xxx

Aren't they matrons of honour when they are already married? I'm not even having one anyway, or a chief bridesmaid! They are all equals, just can't choose between them at all! xx

Chief bridesmaid and maid of honour are the same thing; a matron of honour is also the same role-wise, but is used if the woman is married.

I referred to mine as my chief bridesmaid as I preferred it, but it doesn't really matter.

In terms of roles, you could just have your children as bridesmaids, and have your friend do something else entirely a reading, or she could present the rings or be a witness, or just generally be there to help and support you while you're getting ready.

The main reasons I chose the girl I did to be chief bridesmaid was because the other 3 are in one friendship group, so I felt it was easier to have her rather than risk upsetting the others, because my oldest friend was going to be in Australia in the run up to the wedding, and because I wanted the girl who was chief bridesmaid in a different dress as she doesn't suit the same styles as the other 3. Basically, it was for largely practical reasons as I'm incredibly close to all 4 so it would have been impossible to choose otherwise.

I've just done a little G00gling (nothing better to do at work) and MOH and chief bridesmaid are the same thing.

I think Maid of Honour is more the American term, and chief bridesmaid the U.K. term. Both refer to the seniormost bridesmaid, not necessarily the oldest but the one that is put in charge. Matron of Honour is used for any bridesmaid who is married, regardless of whether or not they are the seniormost bridesmaid.

30th August 2014 was the best birthday ever.
It was the day that I became Mrs. Dixon.
