    Hi everyone,

Just wondering if anyone got separate insurance for their engagement ring outside of home insurance, and if so, any recommendations for companies?
I would be absolutely petrified and gutted if anything happened to my engagement ring and want to put my mind at rest by getting it insured.
    Thanks
    x

We just added it onto our home and contents; cost about £20 a year. I looked into insuring it separately and all the quotes were coming in at £80ish which I think it crazy. Just make sure you compare policies properly in terms of cover, excesses etc. Our insurance company are pretty good; I've had them pay out for 2 rings and a pendant (rings were stolen but we couldn't prove it; pendant I managed to lose). It's a good idea to keep receipts though and also get a valuation document.

Thanks Barbie, yes I must get H2B to get out the home insurance policy and enquire about adding it to that. I got several quote from £70 upwards per year which is crazy I agree!
I have the receipt and official valuation certificate from the Gemmological Association. x

KelBel: that usually depends on the type of policy you have. Ours covers us for damage, loss and theft, both inside and outside of the home, but the maximum per item value we have is £1500 (and we didn't previously have anything worth more than that). So we just extended the limit for my ring. My wedding ring is covered as standard as it's valued at £1500; we need to add OH's on though as his is worth more (but only a little bit so can't imagine it will be too expensive).

Policies do vary though. I like a high level of cover because we often bring valuables out of the home, so one that only covered us for them inside the home wouldn't be much good!

Mine was also added on to the house contents insurance - had to provide valuation certificates due to the value of the ring.

You see I don't take anything high value out the home, phone has separate insurance and my iPad etc always stays at home so only had my rings,so didn't already have the additional for outside the home x

Ahh OK fair enough! I have a lot of jewellery and hand bags and shoes lol, so I always like to know I'm insured wherever I am; plus we go away like 2-3 times a year and travel insurance is... Not good..! I like to know that if I lose, say, my SLR or JCs in Mexico, I'll be covered! We're with LV and it's really quite a good price for the cover we get.

my OH added insurance on when he bought the ring at the jewellers and it cost £200!! him being a man just took the insurance not thinking he could get it out somewhere else. i did go in and ask why it was so expensive and they said because of the price of the ring and that includes and clean/polish once a year for free but i still think thats quite a lot!!
