Hi all, Recently I found the dress which was surprising as it was last dress I tried on and it was picked out as a choice by the people with me. Now this supplier is in limited parts of the country and nearest supplier (this one) is 4-5 hrs drive away (depending on traffic) I will be looking to return to that shop to order dress and of course fittings but it got me thinking If you found the dress or other parts of the wedding not local how far would you travel to get them ?
Somehow always connected , finally became friends .
Friends became soul mates :)

My work colleague (Glasgow) traveled to London for her dress sometimes driving other times train.
I don't think I could travel that far but I am lucky enough to live in a massive city with loads of wedding stores so really no need for me to look out with Glasgow.
If I did I think I would drive MAX 4 hours
After 7 years and 11 months he proposed to me 18.10.13

I wouldn't set a limit on how far I would travel for the dream dress - luckily I didn't have to go too far but I would have gone to the other side of the country for sure - I would probably not go that far for fittings though, I think I would find someone reputable close to home so I didn't have to have the stress of making long journeys in the lead up to the wedding. xx

For the dream dress I'd like to think I'd go anywhere but probably would set a maximum 2 hours drive each way x

I ended up getting mine from the bridal store on our high street although I wasn't living in the town at the time. It's a 5 minute walk from my house lol. At the time it was only a 15 minute drive away so I was lucky. I was prepared though to do a 1 hour tube ride plus 15 minute car journey for mine. Getting the dress home on the London underground would've been a challenge but my sister managed it with help from her other bridesmaid.

I was considering travelling to London from n Ireland to a bridal store there that stocked good priced designer dresses that I really loved!! But now going down the route of getting my dress bespoke made by a local designer 20 mins away :-)
CommentAuthorAprilS61
I think I would probably go 2 hours each way, but I wouldn't travel for fittings. I would buy it and measured, go again to pick it up but then find a local store happy to do alterations x

It's really not something I have thought about! Our town has quite a few bridal shops, so just assumed I would find a dress in one of them.
Our nearest City is around 60 miles away and I have been known to drive there for dresses for other occasions, so for a wedding dress, I guess if I exhausted our town and the nearest city, I would be happy to go much further afield.
I hope I am not that picky though and the one I intend to order will be delivered to me door (although there is a chance it will need replacing)

I will probably realistically go about 30-45 mins out of town xx

OH has got hers from a shop 15 minutes drive from her parents however that's 1.5hrs from uni for her and mine is almost 2hrs drive from uni but ultimately, most of us will go to the ends of the earth to find our dream dresses right?! Look at it this way, some brides order dresses from China and Hong Kong and that's way further :) x

I would travel anywhere in the UK for the right dress. As it can be so hard to find "the one"

My chosen shop is 40 mins away from me, but my mum lives 2 hours away amd my dress is currently at hers. So I'll need a long winded trip to collect and take it to the shop for fittings then back again to my mums! But I'd travel for my dream dress!
CommentAuthorWhovianbride
If I knew a shop had the dress and wanted it I would go. But I would not travel 3/4 his to try a dress I was not sure on. But you could order it through the shop then fund local seemstress to do any alterations rather than going back.

I did what Whovianbride2b is suggesting. I bought my dress from one place, and brought it home, and found an alterations shop convenient for me, that specialised in wedding dress alterations.

My local shop said they could order in another style if they already carried the designer, I nearly went for that option until I fell in love with a different dress :)
