    Just after some advice!
The topic of wearing glasses on the big day has been raised a few times, so I'm wondering if getting some special new frames in the wedding colour(s) would be effective?
Basically iv had glasses for at least 15 years, I considered contacts but they really scare me. If I went without my glasses I'm worried I would feel like I couldn't see the day properly as I'm very shortsighted. So as our colour scheme is purple and teal I was considering something like the following? What do people think?

For reference this is me in my "normal" specs

I wear glasses and so does my partner, and we will be going with contacts for the day. I do already have contacts but I rarely wear them as with the astigmatism it's still not quite right and I have dry eyes anyway so I just wear them on an evening out etc. other half used to have contacts but hasn't worn them for years. But I would like for my photos and the ceremony at least to be glasses less just as it's such a special occasion I want to look my best. I will have prob given up an pulled out my contacts by the evening but won't care by then! Nearer the time I will just do the specsavers free week trial use them for the wedding. I just find with glasses on myself it's very difficult to not look 'business/secretary' like! If you're going with trying to match colours with the theme I would deffo go try them on first check the frames and colours suit you before making a decision.

The most important thing is that you feel comfortable.. I would try a pair on with your dress and get the general 'feel' for them and then make your mind up.

Why are you scared of contacts? I have been wearing them for years and there is nothing to be scared of! I used to watch my mum put them in when I was younger and think 'ewww that's disgusting how do you that?!?!' but once you learn how to put them in yourself it becomes so easy and you don't even think about it! I would definitely recommend at least giving them a go. But if you are going to feel 100% comfortable wearing coloured specs then go for that x

I don't wear glasses myself, but i love the idea of incorporating the colours, I thick it would look great and a fair few people would notice too!

I would definitely try using contacts before buying some though. Like Flossie, I watched my mam put them in when I was younger, and it does take a few go's to get used to them but then she's wore contacts every single day for about 15 years! (apart from lazy days where she doesn't get dressed up or leave the house / watching TV at home on a night)

I would give them a try (taking into account you will only get used them after a few attempts, it probably won't be comfortable straight away) and if its not for you, then buy those lovely coloured glasses! :) x

I like the idea of colour themed frames!

I mostly stick to my glasses but wear contacts if I'm going out.
Has them for about 15 years, they've really improved in that time...but if you want to try them do it well in advance of your big day.
I can easily wear mine for up to 14 hours with no problems, but you have to build up to that over a period of time.
They'll start you off on a recommendation of a couple of hours, and gradually increase the time.

Which ever you choose you're going to look fabulous!

I wouldn't just go for a pair because it would suit your theme. Make sure the style is what you are used to as well. Contact lenses are not as scary as you would think. You can get a free trial from most high street opticians now!

It's really up to you. The themed specs are cool although contact lenses aren't that bad; I'm supposed to wear glasses for reading e.t.c but never wore them but my eyesight got better anyway. I've worn contacts for Halloween before and they're fine; a bit of a pain to get in but you'll get used to them.

But If you feel more comfortable with glasses then stick to those! :)

That's a really good idea :). I where glasses too, I have worn contacts befor but money got tight so I couldn't afford to pay for them any more. Maby you could try contacts mots opticians let you have a trial befor you buy them. You could try them and if you don't like them then defiantly go for the fame matching your them idea. Xx

Going to the opticians in an hour for a contacts consultation, feeling like I could vomit but my headpiece is going to interfere with my glasses behind my ears so I at least need to try contacts. I hate having to touch my eyes and I had surgery on one so I'm overly protective of it :( wish me luck!

I would never wear contacts, I've been wearing them as long as I remember and wearing contacts would be the same to me as wandering around naked. I love the idea of colour co-ordinated glasses, I'll probably be accidentally doing the same as I chose purple because it's my favourite colour, and I love things coordinated.

Wasn't too bad but I did get a bit stressy with one eye as he was trying to put a test lens in, then got hot and light headed! Weird sensation but he said I did the right thing by trying it early so got plenty of time to practice. Plus as I only want them for occasions I can have daily disposables and not faff with cleaning them :) I did have a look at the frames on the way out and there are some options if contacts are too horrible!

Oh great well done! You'll soon get used to doing it, when I first had them my nails were too long to be able to easily get them out and now they are in and out in seconds! Totally changes your look, means your hair will sit differently too if it's across your face

I'm in a very fuzzy world without my specs, for close up things it would be fine, but I wouldn't be able to see peoples faces across the room which wouldn't be very fun!

Thanks for the support everyone, will update when I get the call to go and have some lessons once my trial lenses arrive! :)

I can't wear lenses I absoultly hate them persevered with them for about 6 months now just stick with the glasses. I am thinking about getting frames in the colour scheme too I have purple frames just now so won't be that different or I may just wear the ones I've got. Or like IDL I'll just go without my glasses.

One of my friends had asked if I was going to get contacts for the wedding and when I said no she said my glasses are part of me know and would look different without them.

In a side note i love the purple glasses! Don't forget if contacts are too horrible for you you can slip your glasses off for a few photos anyway.
My h2b is wondering if hes going to wear glasses or contacts on our big day, but he only likes photos of himself with glasses on and i love him in glasses!
I am in a world of blur without my glasses or contacts so i know how how you feel, but i am ultra blind!! lol

Well done for trying the lenses. I have to wear glasses all the time. I'm long sighted but have a lazy eye so I can't wear contacts. My Mum and Sisters have suggested not wearing my glasses on the day but I don't want to risk looking slightly cross eyed in the photos so I've chosen a pair of rimless glasses with very pale blue arms. They are very light and delicate so won't clash with my dress and will be more subtle than my normal every day pair :o)

Good luck MrsK.. I was dreadful at my trial lesson. You will probably get a bit stressed out but don't let that put you off, the more and more you practice, the easier and easier it will become! Mine are in and out like a shot now, I don't even need to look in the mirror. I remember getting really fed up at first though - persevere!! Xx

I was dreadful! I was just getting the hang of it when a whole hour had passed and I didn't get anything on my eyeballs! I have another appointment next weekend, I have been told to practice touching the bottom of my eye (with clean hands of course) to get used to touching my eyeball. Nice!

I don't know how they teach people to put them in these days, but if it helps, this is how I do it..

Put contact lense on your index finger
Pull down your eye lid using the middle finger of the same hand
Place lens on your eye ball and wait until you hear a sound, kind of like air bubbles being sucked out from underneath the lens. You should hear it 'stick' if that makes sense
Remove your finger, blink a few times

    xx

I like the idea of the coloured frames to match the theme... at the end of the day you have to do whats going to be more comfortable for you, if you feel that you will be restricted by contacts, then dont do it to yourself as you want to enjoy your whole day in full sight...

However, you could possible try and wear contacts maybe once a week up until the big day, just to try and get use to them if you really feel you want to go without them.

You could always just where them for the vows and then put on your themed glasses for reception.

You must do whats most comfortable for you.

I got contact lenses in both eyes and could read some writing on a poster on the opposite wall, and then got them out again! Yay! Gonna go back on Friday and have to get them in and out 3 times before I can take a trial pack home, but so proud I did it :) I practically danced out of the opticians!
