We've been discussing the wedding today with my Mum and Stepdad and the conversation got onto whose doing what on the day. My Dad will be giving me away but now I'm trying to find a job for my Stepdad. He's done a lot for me and H2B over the last few years and it would be nice to find a way to include him. We're hoping that one of my Mum's dogs will be able to walk down the aisle, and I thought my Stepdad might like to do that, but the dog is quite elderly and poorly at the moment so we'll have to wait until nearer the time if she'll be able to manage it.

I wondered about maybe asking him to do a reading?

A reading is a good idea and walking the dog down the aisle if he is happy to do that too :)
Could he maybe be one of the witnesses ? x

I'm putting my step dad in charge of on the day co-ordination. He likes to be in charge and it takes the pressure off me worrying to know he is in charge of making sure people and décor are all sorted :)

I would say giving a reading or signing the register are the most obvious jobs. Otherwise does he have any specific skills that you can make use of?

30th August 2014 was the best birthday ever.
It was the day that I became Mrs. Dixon.

I thought about asking him to do a short speech aswell, but there may be a small issue with my Stepsister. His wife died when Michelle was very small and she went to live with Dave's parents until he was in a position to look after her. She ended up staying with his parents and they're very close. She even calls them Mum and Dad. Poor Dave doesn't have a great relationship with Michelle, which I believe is down to his parents. He wasn't allowed to do a speech at her civil partnership ceremony last year :o( I just wonder if it would cause an upset if he did do a speech. She caused a fuss over the job she was given when my Mum and Stepdad got married.

I like your idea Jenn :o) I think he'd like to be chief co-ordinator :o) I also thought about perhaps asking if he'd like to look after my Niece on her trip down the aisle as flower girl (if the dog is too poorly or no longer with us). My Sister will have a 4 month old baby by the time the wedding comes round, which takes the pressure off her a bit, and Delilah loves her Step Gramps :o)

He was absolutely thrilled when he was asked to be part of the grooms party.

Hmm I can understand what you mean about your stepsister but remember it is your day :)

What about also asking him to announce you and your new husband at the reception :)

Have you thought about maybe having him escort you half way down the aisle with him handing you over to your dad (or the other way around)? I also like Welsh's idea of announcing you and your OH at the reception. Another thing that might be nice is if you're doing a father/daughter dance having him cut in, in the middle of the song or have your own dance.
