    Hey everyone!
New here to UK Bride. I got engaged on 25/05/14 and getting married on 21/05/15! Really would appreciate some advice or thoughts on my 'dress dilemma'.
On my second bridal appointment I found my dream dress, however it was way over my budget at £2500. Having tried on about 30 dresses since , just in case I seen something nicer, nothing has came close to it and I can't get it out of my head. I am trying it on again this evening in the store to So have decided to use my head AND heart and buy it second hand. But it's quite a rare dress (its Naomi Neoh Dita dress) and I have only seen one for sale second hand and it's in New Zealand!! Can get it for £830 including tracked postage. Its in my size......however it's 128cm from the bust to the floor and my fiance measured me last night and from the top of my bust to the floor I am 137cm. I made him double check several times!! And that was me with no heels on, although on the day I will be wearing very low wedge sandals.
It would be a shame to spend the money to get a dress shipped and for it to be too short.
There is a longer train at the back of the dress and I was considering that a dress maker could take some of that material to make the front longer, however I would worry it would take the whole look and 'swish' away from the dress that makes it so unique. It would be a gamble. And of course it means having to spend more money towards a dress maker.
I don't know whether to hold out for another dress to be sold second hand or whether to buy this one while I have the chance and get it adjusted.
I have looked in to getting a replica of the dress made but have decided against it as it worries me too much that the exact same material and colour won't be used. The dress is so delicate and made of silk, silk chiffon and chantilly lace and has an amazing subtle blush undertone to it that I don't think can be copied to the same standard.

Your thoughts and advice are much appreciated!! Thanks :-)

    Amy

I know exactly what you mean about the dress. I tried on this dress yesterday (not going for it because it didn't suite me) but the fabric is wonderfully light with it being sheer silk (hense the price).

What you could do is maybe ask a dress maker to make you a chiffon/organza/tulle underskirt in the same colour to go underneath which will give you the length and maybe an ever so slight "layering" at the bottom? That way you don't need to cut material and compromise on a very delicate dress.

PS.. just to confirm this is the dress yes?

    Thanks Victoria for your reply!
Yes that's the dress, every time I see a picture of it I still swoon lol.
The fabric it's made of is devine and understandably the retails price reflects that!
I hadn't actually thought of an underskirt so that's another possible option. As long as the slight 'layering' didn't ruin the complete look of the dress or look stupid. I may have to find a dressmaker and show her pictures of the dress and maybe she will have ideas.......
I am also thinking of seeing if the seller will go down in price further due to me having to get further alterations made....
    Ah I don't know!
I am going to try on the Marianne and the Lily to compare as there seems to be more of those online second hand. However they seem to have a dropped waist which I don't think suits my figure. We'll see.
    Thanks again.

Yes and it's even more magic in the flesh! All Naomi Neoh dresses are amazing and I haven't seen any other dress designer like her on the market.

Contact the designer direct and see if they can find a supplier that has one in your size. The other alternative is to have it shortened at the front and have a topsy turvy hem that is v in ATM

If possible I would visit a dressmaker asap at that price is imagine it will sell fast!!
If you do decide to order & it doesn't fit they do seem to sell we'll on eb@y & looks as though you would break even or possibly even make a bit of money on it.

Have you asked the seller how tall they are?

Ah see for me a dropped waist seems to be the direction I am going simply because of my frame. Tried on a layers organza dress recently that would just lovely.

I hope it all works out for you as the Naomi Neoh dresses are just (as you say) devine and felt really nice against the legs with how soft the material was.

Another NN dress I really like is the Zephyr dress. I'd have it simple though without the flowers. But I don't have £3500 so thats a bust.

Thanks so much everyone for some great thoughts/ideas on my options!

Mrs Mann yes thats another thought!
Keira the seller is 5ft 4in and needed to wear heels, although I have asked what size of heels and she hasnt replied as yet. But yes they seem to sell very well as I know of two that have sold recently in the UK but the sellers forgot to take it off and said they sold within weeks. So my concern is what the likelihood is of the dress coming on to the second hand market in the next 6 months (my wedding is just over 9 months away and want to have it a couple of months beforehand!). Like you say I can always sell it myself if it doesn't suit and make my money back IF I find another one at the right length. Carpe Diem and all that!!

Victoria I havent seen the Zypher at all anywhere second hand but found this

Its for sale in the actual Naomi Neoh store in London at £958 without the flowers!
It's an absolutely stunning dress too.

I am quite tall so maybe the Marianne dropped waist will look ok on me, I'll know this evening when I try it on!
I tried on an amazing Mori Lee dress with a dropped waist (6788), it was very Vera Wang-like and was only £637!!

LOL Future Mrs P and the pictures don't do them justice!! the blush colour is incredible, so unique.
Initially I thought Id like something tight fitting and very lacy in ivory, now I want a full skirted pink dress lol

P.S. How to I attach an image?

I wish you hadn't shown me that. I'm a size 16 (lost weight from size 20) and it's likely the slimmest I will get to is 12 if I can... the dress there is a ten (cries). I wouldn't be able to get down to London anyway.

To attatch an image, when your writing your comment there are three options next to "post" and you need to pick "insert image" and you can upload the image from your desktop. You will need to save the image to your desktop first. You will not see the actual image posted but you will see some text added called "Image1" inside the comments box.

Oops sorry Victoria! I dont know what the back is like but you can always put in a panel in and turn the back into a corset to fit.
I can't see any other option beside the 'post' tab, it's th eonly one.....maybe cos I am new here it doesn't allow me yet?

You will become a power user when you get 5 gold hearts (100,000 points) or you can pay to become a power user. If you click on the 'Forum' tab on the UK Bride page, the option to pay to become a power user is in there :) it's £2.50 for one month or £20 for the year x

Oh right ok, thanks, I'm not bothered to be honest and don't mind if I can't attach images.
So are you going to make an appointment to your nearest stockist to try on some of Naomis dresses? Or do you already have your dress? xx

Me neither :) you can always upload photos into your album on your profile and people can easily click through to see them :)

I think they're a little out of my price range (well, my mum's price range as she has very very kindly offered to buy my dress)!!! They are beautiful though! Looking to start trying dresses on around Easter time next year xx

lol don't tempt me. The dress shop I was yesterday where I tried on one of her dresses has let me know they are expecting more colours of wedding dresses in October and she is going to let me know when they do so I can pop in for a look-see. She mentioned they are getting Taupe colours in so that will be interesting. :)

They are out of mine too and if I knew the prices of them I would never have tried them on in the first place and would have a different dress by now!! But it got me hook, line and sinker.......so it's down the 2nd hand route I go. Though I don't care if it's 2nd hand, as long as it's what I want :-).
You're lucky your Mum has offered to pay for your dress!! :-). Trying dresses on is so much fun!x

Apparently blush colours are in this year but all the bridal places I've been to don't have then, apart from the one I found the Dita in. Maybe because N.Ireland is so behind!! I saw another Naomi Neoh dress with a very subtle blue colour which looked amazing as well, in the pic anyway :-)
Yes a taupe colour would be interesting :-) xx

Trust me it's not just NI. I live in Dundee and I out of three shops so far I have seen so far only 2 shops had blush dresses but the first had only 1 and the one I was in yesterday had 2 which were both Naomi Neoh dresses.

Lol so Scotland is a wee bit behind too!
I've found a lot of places do so many similar dresses, full of lace and bling.....which is nice but just not me. I felt like I was wearing a net curtain with so many dresses I tried on!
Good luck with the search :-)
