Hi ladies : ) Everyone everywhere is buying their dress! My Nan's 1962 wedding dress is in perfect condition and only needs slight alterations to fit me, its completely different to modern style dresses but I like that. It might not be my dream dress but I feel like a princess in it and save loads of money. I can't attached a picture but there's on in my "dress" album. My Nan and Mom have suggested that I remove the arms to update it slightly and I think I agree with them....any thoughts? The rest of our wedding has a 1960's vintage vibe so the dress fits in perfectly. I am also not sure what to do about hair as I want braids and intertwined flowers (I have long hair- not 60's at all) but I'm not sure this would go with the sleek 1960's vibe? Any thoughts? : )

hey, your page is restricted so can't see the picture of the dress. To be honest I think people worry too much about every single detail matching. I think as long as you don't go for anything too obviously from another era then I think it will look fine (although I haven't seen the dress...). I like the idea of wearing an heirloom though, my mums wedding dress got trashed in the days of using it for dressing up so that would never have been an option for me! Unrestrict your page and put up a pic of the style of hair you like as well then people will be able to give you some good advice :)

I love this idea! I would use my mums and modernise it slightly (remove sleeves), but my mum was tiny when she got married. it would never fit me!

I inherited my Great Grandmas wedding dress from the 1940's, it fits me around my body however because she was only little it is too short and I don't like the neckline on myself, I don't think I have the heart to alter it either when its practically an antique. I have got a few different vintage dresses but only one of those fits me and my partner caught me prancing about in it and basically told me it wasn't in his opinion a wedding dress and nothing like he pictured me wearing. This is a photo of me in Great Grandmas dress
Well the quality of that picture isn't too cracking but you see what I mean about the neckline. I'm quite busty so it just looks wrong. I think if you have permission to alter the dress or you are happy to do so then go for it, my Grandma has said she wishes she had kept her wedding dress as it was a ballerina length dress with tulle skirt and she says she knows I would of absolutely loved it, such a shame and I will be keeping my dress in the hope that if I ever have a daughter she may want to wear it :)
