    Hi,
just wanting some advice, Im starting to look at dresses and is it wrong that so far Im more drawn to a coloured dress? My OH will be wearing a kilt (yellow & gold) and Im thinking Id like a dress to compliment. Nothing Ive tried on in the traditional dress line has done anything for me and I'm starting to feel a bit way with the whole experience.

I wondered if anyone else had a non- traditional dress and how everyone in their wedding parties felt about it. (I have a feeling some of my family may be a tad judgemental lol)

    thankies xx

It's got nothing to do with anyone else, it's completely up to you what dress you want. Maybe try some coloured dresses on and see how they make you feel. When you find THE dress you will know, whether that be a traditional one or a coloured one.

Hi, I'm new here but I think you should follow your heart, if you are drawn to a non-traditional dress then I say go for it, your wedding day is about still being you just at your very best. There are some absolutely beautiful gold / champagne dresses if that is the colour you had in mind and these days a lot of dress designers do coloured dresses in traditional bridal styles. Your wedding party are there to support your decisions, if you know a dress is the one for you and that it suits you then they should be happy for you not criticising your choices.

thanks guys, Im also thinking of going totally non traditional, I would really like a knee length dress as I don't really wear long dresses anyway, plus a lot more pratical for the party on the beach :)

I love knee length and tea length dresses, I was previously going to get married in 2012 however I had a baby instead, anyway when I was planning for the previous date my Mum HATED the idea of a short wedding dress, that was until she saw me in one and then said it suited my personality perfectly, she says she now can't imagine me in any other style of dress, which is kind of making me want to go for something long / more traditional as both my Mum and especially my partner fully expect me to wear a shorter dress, I want to surprise him on the big day!

That's really beautiful, would you want it in the blue colour too? Blue is a really old traditional bridal colour anyway so you can just explain that to anyone who complains about the colour choice (not that it is anyone elses decision!), I was looking at a dress that was 50's style, blue with yellow underskirt and lining for myself as I think its beautiful, Mum was telling me off for blue not being a bridal colour, bit of internet research and it turns out blue has a longer history of being bridal than white or ivory does, white only really came into fashion for weddings when Queen Victoria wore it on her wedding day

I honestly wish I had the guts and figure to go for a gatsby style dress, there are some absolutely stunning 20's style dresses about at the moment

Your wedding can be anything you want. If you want a coloured dress, have one. Or if you're going for a tea length and you're a bit unsure about a full colour, how about having the underskirt coloured? There are some fab piccies on the internet. The sky's (read budget) the limit ;-)

I think that as always the budget is always gonna be a stumbling block (our total cost is gonna be about 2k or less if we can)

You can get coloured dresses that are formal for a lot less than what most wedding dresses cost, might be worth checking out prom dress stockists as it's coming up to after prom / uni ball season so will be having sales, lots of high street shops sell dresses that would be suitable for a wedding at a decent price

I tried on a gold dress which worked really well with my pale skin tone, I say go for it? It's your day and you need to feel super comfortable :)
