Wedding Forum - Tall bride problem!!...

I have 2 tall friends one is 6ft 5 and when she married she went to the bridal shop and the style she choose which was corset top and quite puffy skirt did need to be altered due to her height however my other friend is 5ft10 and all the dresses she has tried have actually been fine however she is wearing flat shoes as she isn't a heel kinda girl :)

The dress on the 1st mate mentioned with the added material didn't look like it had been added but like it was part of the dress all along , one thing which I have to admit was I did think the 1st bride would have issues due to height however after being there in dress shop the lady mentioned how these days the dress is for the bride no matter size or height so alterations are expected and thus made to be like any other dress :)

The dresses come in catwalk lentgh (which is 6ft) as standard, so you should be fine. Most people need them taking up.

Unless you buy a cheap copy, or a pre-loved which may have been altered already.

It often doesn't cost more to have a dress made to measure if you find a dressmaker instead of buy a designer dress off the rack.
Or sample sales are good too. All shop samples are standard catwalk lentgh too. Some stores will even have sales of dresses that people ordered, but didn't buy. You could get lucky.

Try not to worry - I'm 5ft 10 and my cousin is 6ft 4 and we've both managed absolutely fine! I'm in the red, her in the ivory (mine will be in ivory when ordered :) the shop will measure you and will be made to your particular specifications! x

I wouldnt worry - I am 5"9 and went into the shop and was surprised that all the dresses I tried on were too long! I am wearing flat shoes for my wedding as my H2B is same height as me. I actually had to order my wedding dress in the shorter length - I couldn't believe it!

Basically - if you plan on wearing flat shoes you needn't worry as the dresses will be long enough for you. But if you plan on wearing heels, most designers can go up to 4 inches longer (I know this from watching say yes to the dress - great TU show!)

Thanks Amanda! So they can be altered? That's the main thing I'm worrying about, I've been told they can only be lengthened is they are made from lace or have pleats in the sides, not sure if that is the case for all seamstresses?

Hi i know it's an old thread but thought I'd respond here rather than create a new one.

Are there any particular designers you can recommend that do longer dresses or have an option of ordering a longer length? Eg I tried on some m0ri l33 dresses and they were just the right length without heels but would need to be taken in in the bust and apparently that would make the dress rise up slightly but just enough to make it too short for me... i was told that ***Pr0n0v1@5 do long lengths but any other recommendations would be appreciated

My 4lfred 4ng3l0 is also pretty long ... I'm 5 ft 8/9 and tried it with 4" platforms on and it was the perfect length

Thanks! I've seen some 4llure bridal dresses so will definitely keep that in mind when I'm dress shopping!

Yet on America 4llure is way more affordable!' Unless I just picked a super expensive design
