    I need some advice ..... We've set the date ... 01-08-2015 ... that's nearly a year to go !!!

Booked everything BUT I've not tried a single dress on!

I'm quite reluctant to go trying gowns on until I've lost some weight or can at least fit in the underwear I've bought.

Am I being silly or have other brides been like this ?

Should I still go try dresses on even with my extra "baggage" ?

I'd really like something different as I'm a goth at heart - maybe something slightly grey ?

Our colours are Dark Grey and Dark Purple

I still want to look like a bride ... not a corpse bride.

    Please Help!

Firstly relax I am due to get married 11th July next year and I haven't tried any dress on .

You are not being silly at all , I am nervous about my first dress shopping which is in just over a weeks time . If you are ready why not go to the shops to see if the styles you like are around and try a few on :)
Between now and the final fitting your body shape may be different so don't panic just try and enjoy the dress process :)

I've seen ONE I like -- its diane harbridge Leanne ... but is out of my price range and its a fishtail type shape - which will take a miracle :(

Most dresses take 9 months to be ordered and you will be amazed at the shape some dresses can give you. Also go with an open mind as most brides find that they end up with a dress completely different to what they imagined they would want (I know I did!) and most of all, enjoy it! Xxx

OK, don't panic you still have plenty of time.

One piece of advice I have to say is try going in with an open mind and not have any expectations on what you think will suit you best. Try things on that you would never have thought would suit you and you will me amazed.

The dress I originally thought was perfect is actually nothing like what I have gotten in the end. I actually have two dresses because of the time of year we're getting married it will likely be really warm and my actual wedding dress is quite heavy so only plan to wear it for either the first dance or when I start feeling uncomfortable and change into a slimline dress for the evening which will be much lighter and easier for me to move around in.

I agree with above comments, go with open mind, let assistants guide you through what they think will suit you, and try it on even if you think it's horrific, they look a lot different on, and try it even if it's too rule it out.

My dress was nothing like I thought I wanted, (Lacey, high necked) I got satin, sleek, figure hugging with a vneck.

You do need to go... I ordered and measured in at a big size but then I lost a load of weight and the seamstress was able to alter my dress for the day so don't worry... Just enjoy it and believe me corsets do wonders!
    I felt amazing!

You've got three months at most before you need to order your dress. I would start looking, but tell the shop staff that you are planning on losing weight. They can easily take dresses in, so they would order at the size you are at that point, and then alter it as necessary.

Don't worry too much about weight as dresses can easily be altered to fit you nearer the time, just order the right size that you already are and not a size or two down, just incase!

Wear a strapless bra and some knickers you feel comfortable in as you'll more than likely have the shop attendant with you, although some leave you to get into the dress yourself.

Be open to suggestions, you might have an idea on what you want but the staff can help find what suits your shape, similar things to what you're looking for or get something completely different for you to try.

Don't take TOO many people. Take those who's opinions matter to you but most importantly those who are honest. Don't forget though that it's you're dress, and you know what you like. Don't let anybody put you off a dress for no reason just because they don't like it. You'll know when you find the one!

    Good luck, and have fun!

Yep, I agree with the other ladies, every shop I've been in they've all said don't worth about weight the dress can be altered nearer the time. And DEFINITELY go with an open mind, I've ended up with something opposite to what I originally said I wanted lol! I also echo what April said, above all else enjoy it hon! Xx

THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR REPLIES!!!!

    I went into a dress shop today - there's a start!!

The assistant wasn't much help - but what did shock me was the weight of the dresses!!!!

Am I going to sweat buckets in the height of summer in one of these dresses!! OMG

I think I'm struggling to get my head round liking another dress that isn't the diane harbridge :/

    ... I'll post when I have been for a trying-on session!!! ...

    Hi Shell,

Have you thought about wearing something lighter and simple?

As I said above I purchased a lighter cheaper dress for me to move around in for after the first dance and I love it just as much as my wedding dress even though it only cost £62!

This is what I am wearing in the evening.

Find a stockist and try it on, i did with mine, i saw a picture, loved it, searched for shops that had it. I tried on every style as well as the one i liked.

Found two others i also liked, i bought the original one even though it was more than i wanted to spend.
Worth it in the end though as i think id have regretted not buying it.
I even searched for it cheaper online... But only found it £300 more or a cheap copy that i wasnt willing to risk.

You will find one, but try as many styles as you can, and if you still want the harbridge, youll find a way to budget for it.

I only bought my dress 3 months ago (5 months before the wedding) and that's after 5 years of trying dresses on! I just couldn't decide! I ended up buying the dress I tried on in the shop as it had only come in that week anyway, and fitted me perfectly, and they just ordered a new sample one in. So you have plenty of time with a year to go..especially if you can find one in the next 3 months, you'll have nothing to worry about xx
