I could do with a little advice please..

With the OH's family living all over the country, I wanted to send 'save the dates' straight away so they have got a lot of notice for the date (sept 2015). But, im wondering whether to miss the the save the dates and just send proper wedding invites straight out. That way, saving myself money and stress!

Would i be best sending 'save the dates' or is that something i could miss out?

We did save the dates and sent loads as when it came to it we had to cut the list for invites by about 30 ppl so can be awkward if I have to say next year ooh sorry ur not invited now lol ... We found sending save the dates out gave ppl the notice formally that there would be a wedding and that they would receive something closer officially. Means ppl won't maliciously book holidays etc... Plus if you send invites out too early ppl may forget.... As a wedding is not everyone's main priority like it is yours xx

Yeah, the OH wants to send them out mainly so his family are pre warned, but i thought we could save a bit of money by not bothering.

Well, ive had a look online and found some really nice save the dates which are pretty cheap.

My OH and sent Save a Dates which is pretty much just to say to people "mark this down in your calendar" then next year about 6 months before we'll send out the invites.

Our families stretch from Portsmouth to Aberdeen so we needed to let them know in advance so they could make arrangements.

Have you thought about making them? I made mine by getting a custom stamp made with name and date, parcel tags and distress inks.

If you're happy to wait a few months, you could put a little note or the invite itself into Christmas cards. Saves the cost of an extra stamp x

we have found save the date templates and are using them on the print of vi$ta, think they are £4.99 for 100 business cards, but may look at doing them as postcards!! My family are all in England and I am in Scotland so want to give some of them the opportunity to save if they have to xxx

I would say that you have to send save the dates just because you would also get to know the approx. amount of people who are coming to your wedding.

i just did my own, cost about £16 in total and i ended up with loads of them. printed them off as photographs (4 to a 6 x 4 print) and ordered magnetic paper to stick them too.

its personal preference though, plus i think it depends on when in the week/year it is, if its holiday season or a week day at least let people know even if you cant be bothered with the fuss of doign save the dates :)

or you could just send early invites out (not this early though xD)

We are going to, our wedding is next August and already people are asking about the date so they don't book holidays etc. I think it depends on how much time you have though, and if the date is likely to clash with holidays or a weekday etc.

I'd suggest sending STD's out now and invitations 3 months before the big day. If you want to save money do what hubby and I did, we did it all by email, designed a STD on my laptop then emailed it to everyone.

My family is all in New Zealand and I think I will just send invites straight to them and send save the dates to a select group of people in the uk. The nz invites will have a shorter RSVP so I can make up numbers from the uk crowd later on.

Ive just been reading up on Royal Mail about sending magnets in the post and it looks like there are some restrictions on posting them. Has anyone tried to post them and had problems? A few websites say that fridge magnets can get stuck to the sorting machines. Im thinking of wrapping them in card then putting into an envelope, but to me that wont look very attractive. I want them to look nice, but not cost me the world to post.

    Any ideas?

If I am ever sending little picture magnets I use a site called $ticky9 the magnets aren't strong enough to interfere with machinery but hold up well on a fridge.

Ok, another change of plan. Ive found a site where i can get 20 free save the date cards (just pay postage). Im going to use the cards for the day ones and buy the magnets for the evening save the dates. I only need to post the day ones out so i can hand the magnets out to everyone for the evening do :)

Also, the free cards are actually quite nice. We dont want anything fancy so these are perfect. They are just plain cards with 'save the date' embossed on the top and the details below. Envelopes included too. Not bad for free :)

If people can suggest how to send the magnets out though, please comment. Just in case i need to send a couple out

I wasn't going to bother. I thought just telling people would be enough but when
I thought about it I realised that apart from close family they wouldn't remember. So I bought some magnets on bay of E which worked out at about 50p per magnet, they look lovely and everybody has responded positively.

Regarding postage - as the magnet envelopes were so tiny I put them in a larger envelope with a sheet of card inside, worked out as a letter postage so not expensive and all got there ok.

I was also thinking about sending invitiations straight away instead of save the dates but after a bit of a think I decided not to because the invitations themselves, may get lost, misplaced or accidentally thrown away during the long period between now & the date.

Instead, I looked at sample business cards online some of the popular sites and I actually found a design that I liked. Instead of getting them printed, I took a screen shot of the design and printed numerous copies on A4 paper. Then I cut them out very carefully & glued the paper to a textured card so that it had a nice back & i stuck these in the post :) All it cost me was £1.49 for a pack of 10 textured cards & I cut them to fit the save the dates!

Ps. Also cost me in stamps but even so, the stamps came to less than £6.00 - still cheaper than me getting them printed! I suppose it depends on what type of design you are looking for.
