First of all, I hope this is in the right category..

Anyway, it's only just occurred to me that I don't have a clue what I'm doing regarding dressing our tables at our reception. We are having a village hall reception, with 9 5'6" tables that seat 10..so enough seating for 90 people. We have about 110 people on our guest list so there won't be a seat for everyone (unless 20 people can't make it!). We're having an informal reception with a BBQ and buffet though so if the weathers is nice in hoping some guests will be outside anyway. (We'll have a bit more seating and deckchairs outside)

So...what should I do to make the tables look nice other than having the centrepieces? We have no menu as there will be such a variety of food that the list would go on and on, we have plain white plates that belong to the village hall along with a few china plates and teacups that I have been collecting (but not enough for everyone to have one..plus my OH doesn't want to go OTT with the 'girly china') which will probably be placed next to the buffet, we can't afford proper napkins for everyone so trying to find some nice disposable ones (if such a thing exists!) and we have no place names.

Any ideas on how I could dress the tables? Inspire me please ladies!

Personally I prefer paper napkins to cloth anyway. Of you can buy some means get into macro as they have nice big packs of napkins in all different colours.

we are having Jam Jars and tin cans with a bit of brown string tied round them on our tables. You could do something like this, with some cheap in season flowers in or I've even seen Jam Jars with photos in them! maybe you could do this with a photo of you and H2B? just a few more ideas.... not too girly. Also, Ik3a or somewhere like that is very good for cheap coloured napkins!! xx

Table scatter crystals or petals always look quite nice. Loads cheap on the bay. Ikea do some nice candle lanterns for £3 each, they would look nice as centre pieces with battery operated candle lights or jam jars with fairy lights in add a bit of ambience.

Instead of putting tins in the recyling bin, you could save them up. Give them a good clean then paint to match your colour scheme. Once the paint is dry grab a drill and gently poke holes in the tins so the holes form a pattern or design (butterfly, heart etc) then pop a tealight inside, place on tables an sprinkle some table scatters around. You would only need a few per table around the centrepiece and you could also dot some around outside. Spray paint is only a few £s and you can easily cover several tins with one can.
There are some really nice napkin designs available, check out online party supply shops for some inspiration - I've seen everything from plain colours, floral designs, animal prints and damask patterns. You can get personalised ones too if there aren't any out there that take your fancy.

Thanks ladies, you've given me some great ideas. I've found some disposable napkins that look and feel like real ones and they're a fraction of the price do going to get those, and I'm also going to try out a few of your ideas! We're already having jam jars and jugs with flowers but love the idea of the tin cans too, so will give it a go! I think I'll get some petals to scatter on the table too and lay the cutlery out on the tables with the napkins. You've been a great help, Thankyou :)
