Hey Ladies, I am not a baker at all but I want to be able to save money and feel that I have plenty of time to perfect a cupcake. Does anyone have any recipes for cupcakes and icing. Or even an idea of rougly how much it would cost for me to make about 120 cupcakes xxx

i think if you allow 25p per cake that will more than cover all the bits

It depends on what quality of ingredients you use and what you decorate them with. The flower paste I use can get very expensive but it's fantastic for modelling things with.
Have a look online for recipes but if you want a vanilla cupcake then I recommend M@ry Berry from her B@king bible :)

I think it's a good way to save money but remember there will be loads for you to be doing the last couple of days and being stuck in the kitchen for hours may not be good for your stress levels!! You could bulk bake and freeze in advance then ice the day before but I went to a wedding last year and the cakes must have been frozen or baked a couple of days before and were hard so no one ate them....they were huge and too big really. Just a thought how about chocolate brownies that are quicker and won't need icing or decorating or even Welsh cakes?

I total get the whole stress thing, just thinking of ways to save money. Could always bribe one of my pals to make them, only thing is I know that she smokes in her kitchen, so I would be worried about the clean element of things. I may try brownies, would they look ok instead of a cake. I know when I got married the first time we had a really popular ckae maker do our cake, paid £400 for it and it was disgusting!!! xxx

Nigella in her Domestic Goddess book does a chocolate brownie pyramid. I'm thinking they are more forgiving to cook. The 2 days prior to my wedding are full of little errands that can only be done last minute I'd be bonkers trying to cook cakes as well!!!

depending on what you want cost is around 30/50p each, if your not a baker, i recomend sticking to a basic good tasting cake with butter creme ising, piping it on in swirls looks good in mass amounts
