Me and h2b absolutely hate, hate, hate icing! I make cakes myself and considered making my own but don't want the stress they day before the wedding.
I really like the simplicity of them dressed with fresh fruit but not sure if it would be too "different", considering we already have lots of different things going on x

I came across some un-iced wedding cakes on LINK REMOVED and they look really lovely. It is up to you, if you don't like icing then why have it :)

Just had a look at them, they so amazing!

Some of the non-iced cakes can be beautiful, it is amazing what can be done with cream or frosting and sprinkles, or fruit.
Just a wee note Emma, not to put links on your posts, tell the person about it and put the link on your own wall or theirs and direct them to it. Off to look at those myself right now though!

I think it'd be lush, with fresh fruit and just a dusting of icing sugar for effect :) Different and brill!!

Non iced can look lovely

We do have a cake included in our package, but just a plain iced fruit cake, which we can decorate with flowers etc. but we hate fruit cake and icing so it seems like the best alternative. And I'm a stickler for doing things my way, we're having paper windmills for place settings, buttonholes etc, which some older family members don't agree with. But oh well, it's not their wedding!

I agree non iced cakes can look amazing - i love simple delicate detail. I saw something recommended yesterday which said if u drape a lace over the cake and then use icing sugar the pattern stays on the cake! Looked really pretty :)

Ah i'm sorry about the link, didn't realise. Won't happen again.
Love the photos Glitterfairy - the top one looks beautiful x

Helen, the lace is such a great idea, right up my street!!!
I've emailed a local lady who is a home based baker for a quote, surely it would be a lot cheaper than a sugar crafted cake!
I just wanna eat them all glitterfairy!!

I think its a great idea! I think it will be really memorable for guests too.

Omg if I'd have known they were £60 I would've persuaded h2b to give it a go (he doesn't like them). They can look so lovely :)
My MOH is looking into them for her own wedding after falling in love with them after seeing a piccy in a wedding mag

Yeah, it's not for everyone. I just showed my mum and she went "well it's a bit different", there's nothing about me and h2b that's "normal".
Yeah, such a good price, bit her hand off and booked lol.
I love alternatives, and really am not a fan of the plain white iced cake that comes as part of our package!

My h2b hates uniced cakes, and I hate fondant icing... So we're going rustic and having buttercream all around ours x

Neither of us like icing, I love buttercream and mascarpone but he hates both, a real pain in the a$$! It's the only solution for us! X
CommentAuthorDonnaH39
Wow - I'll be honest when I read the first post I thought, well yeah if you don't like icing but didn't think it'd look too great, but I love the pictures! They can be stunning. I like the one with the birds on top but showed h2b and he doesn't like the birds but would have it with normal toppers on.
CommentAuthorLauraY27
Haha, it can be deceiving! When I first heard about it, I thought eighth, they're gonna look awful, but they are lovely :)
Typical men, being a pain. Our theme is vintage paper windmills, so we'll have three different sizes on top of ours :) x

Sounds fab, and those cakes look amazing
There's nothing wrong with going against people's idea of normal. It's not other peoples day. It's yours and should express your own individuality

Those cakes look amazing! I've never seen them before! I understand what you mean about icing, I don't mind it, but some can taste a little yucky! And I agree with Velcro, its your day, be individual! x

Icing gives me migraines.. I always give it to H2B lol..
Cake is his job and his alone but I'd 100% consider a naked cake if I was choosing it :-) don't think H2B would be impressed as he loves icing lol xxx
I can't wait to become his Wife :-) <3

Icing is my favourite part of the cake so we were always going to go with a traditional iced number - we both hate fruit cake though so we'll be having sponge instead.
CommentAuthorTrasaD
Maybe you could use fruit for the decoration on the cake? There are loads of things you can make with fruit, animals, people, flowers etc. I love making that sort of thing with my daughter. There are plenty of videos online for ideas. Maybe you could talk to the ones doing your cake to see if they can do something like that for you? xoxox
CommentAuthorprincesspixie
i like the idea of non iced cakes and can still be decorated lovely xx
