Ive received a quote today for chair covers

apparently the venue I am getting married, they have specific chair covers and apparently she has specifically had them made for the venue.

Can you use any chair cover? Or is it specific per chair? Or a rip off?

From my experience, it does depend on the size and type of back your chair has. Apparently different chairs have different names! So in my opinion it is best to go with somewhere that has dressed your chosen venue previously.

As above; we're having them for the ceremony and opted to hire them through the venue as I wanted to ensure they'd fit; plus prices were on a par with prices elsewhere.

We are however providing our own sashes as it was cheaper for us to buy them than to hire them, and then we can sell them on afterwards (hopefully!)

I've hired chair covers from an online company that delivers them nationwide for 75p per cover. They will arrive 2 days before the wedding and are returned 2 days after. We have to fit them ourselves but they're the Lycra ones so they're really easy to put on. The company I used showed a selection of different chairs, I selected the chair they have in my venue and ordered a sample which I get to keep for £7. It fits the chairs perfectly so have now ordered 100 for the wedding day. You pay a £50 deposit to secure the covers but you get it back at the end. This worked out much cheaper for us than using a local company as they all charged about £3 a chair. We also bought our sashes as it cost the same per sash to buy them as it would to hire them, so we can sell them on after the wedding. I'd definitely recommend looking at this company if you're being charged a lot more by your venue for their covers. I'll post the link to your wall x

Is she recommended by the venue? Sure there are different kinds of chairs but this doesn't mean that other people wouldn't be able to provide them as well.

I'm wondering if there is anything i'm able to do to my chairs to make them look more wedding'y! (lol). There is a pic of them in my Venue album but basically there conservatory chairs as were getting married in a farmhouse (in the conservatory) but the chairs look a little plain!! maybe not chair covers but I cant really think of anything else to do to them!!
Sorry to jump in on your post Popoem! I'm no good at this kinda thing either! xx

that's cool! its good to talk about these things.

The lady quoted me £260 for 70 chairs.

That's INSANE 0.75p a chair! Hmmmm the thing I was wondering was I know i'll get flustered and upset if I cant get a sash right or anything....i'd cry lol

Melissa have you thought about end pew bows to form an aisle and then tying the arm rests with white ribbon with tie in some brooches to the handles just to liven them up a bit?

Re fitting them: will they not fit them then?

Our venue were happy to fit both the chair covers and sashes if we provided our own; they had no issues with it. We were actually originally going to provide our own covers as we found a price that looked good, but once we looked into it further it was a) going to cost a lot more than they made out and b) going to be a lot of extra hassle, hence using the venue's covers and buying our own sashes.

If your venue won't fit chair covers you've ordered elsewhere, then I'd think carefully about the practicalities eg find out when you can get in to fit them (would they let you come the day before for eg? Or would it be the morning of? I would NOT fancy fitting 70 chair covers and sashes on the morning of the wedding personally speaking), and then weigh this against the savings in cost.

I just want to quickly jump in here - I work with an event dressing company and we do chair covers - PLEASE think of the practicality of putting on chair covers yourself. In fact the stretch lycra ones are real hard work and when we do a wedding we set around about 5 hours to do 100 chairs and sashes.

Putting the feet hooks on with stretch chair covers is painful on your fingers and if you haven't done it before it will take you even longer. It is back breaking stuff! Of course it is your choice but I just felt sometimes people think chair covers are a doddle to fit (I know I did before I started working with them) and they are anything but!!

Luckily I have about 20 helpers helping set up the night before as it's a village hall so it's all hands on deck! The friend I have in mind has dressed chairs her other friend's venue in the past and she did a great job, so I'm hoping mine will look just as good! The chair cover seemed pretty simple to put on..we didn't have to stretch it too much to cover the legs and it looked beautiful. We're on a tight budget so need to cut costs where we can and getting a local company would have just been far too expensive. I agree though, if you can afford it, definitely have someone dress them for you as it's less stressful that way and you can guarantee they'll look lovely.

My venue wanted £4 a chair but I research and got them for half that from our florist. I was warned by the venue that whoever I chose to not try and.put them on myself as she had had brides try and do that with so much stress etc.

I suppose it's down to personal choice, if you're having a big fancy wedding and don't want to have to do anything beforehand and concentrate on relaxing the day before then definitely get someone else to do it! My reception is more informal, and myself and my fiancé along with our families are setting up the venue the day before,so we have plenty of people to help us put chair covers on..I don't have to do every chair myself. Plus we're on a budget so that extra £200 we've saved goes a long way towards paying for something else, like our rings, which will be around much longer than the chair covers! :-) I suppose you've just got to work out where you'd rather spend your money and what things are important to you on the day.
