So without running the risk of sounding like a complete novice - what is "embossing"?
I've googled and I'm still struggling to understand what this does and how to do it. I am hoping to make my own invitations and it seems to come up a lot when I'm searching for things.
Help!! x

It's like a design pressed into the card so that it's like a raised design on the card and when you run your finger over it, you can feel it standing out xxx

i'll pop a link on your wall hun, it explains it more and gives instructions, however it's not something you can do with an everyday household stationary object, you need stencils, a light box to show the design of the stencil through the card and a stylus to emboss the card. xxx

oh you need to accept my friend request first hun before I can post the link to your wall xxx

Thanks :) It looks nice but unsure if this is far beyond my scope of DIY! haha xx

I would think it would be a LOT to pay out for the equipment to do them, it would be cheaper to buy ones already embossed and you can make nice invites without the embossing anyway :-) It does look fairly timely and complex xxx

it does look good and if you got the equipment is fairly easy bu the equipment is expensive i was going to do the same however just because its unlikely i will ever use it again i couldnt justify the cost so i bought a rubber stamp and ink for mine instead!
One BIG day will lead to lots of little happy days !!

It looks easy but it isn't......
In order to do this, a stamper has to be made, and all names/images have to be in reverse (upside down and back to front).
Not something you can do in your front room unfortunately :-)
Debossiing is exactly the same principle, but with any images/text sunk below the surface.

I don't agree with Clive, I bought an embossing machine off Ebay which cost me £28 inc p+p but i'll be selling it on after the wedding anyway so will get the money back. It took me 45 mins to do 100 cards and I found it really easy and effective, you put the card in a plastic sleeve, put it in the machine, wind the handle until it comes out the other end and it's done! It won't let me put a photo of mine on here for some reason but there's a picture in my Wedding Diary Thread if you fancy a look x

Haha! Thank you! I was shocked by it too, i only decided to do it after stumbling across the machine in the Craft for Hobbies..! And they had them out of the box to have a try, there weren't any instructions or anything to work out what to do but it was so simple that i thought i had to get one!

Thanks for that Samantha, your invites turned out great. I have so many ideas its trying to bring them together to see what looks good - stationery was definitely the one expense I didn't think would be so high! xx
