    Hi Girls,

As anyone thought about making there own invites, if so any ideas to go about it?

Or is this going to be more hassle than its worth and end up costing more than actually buying them from store/online?

    Thanks xxx

We made ours as we were quoted £900 for everything but have to say we won't be doing them again. They came out ok but it took a month on our days off of doing them between us. But it depends on how complicated you make them, have to leave things to dry, cut out etc etc.

I was going to make my own.. Those pocket ones that you pull the invite out of with a ribbon... I got free samples off a few websites and unstuck them to draw round the shape - was far too much hassle.... Then I just found a pattern on Google I liked and used MS Pub to design my own.. But turns out using v ista p rint works out a tiny bit cheaper but a hell of a lot less hassle than making your own.. And the invitations on there have matching RSVP's, STD's, Thank You Cards, and matching general pages that you can make into whatever you want (I made my order of service from those ones).. If you sign up aswel they send 50% offers like twice a month !
I'm getting all of our invites, STD's, RSVP's and Order of Services, all with free envelopes for £60 !!

DO NOT BE FOOLED BY THEIR PLACECARDS THOUGH ! It says place cards but they are infact just flat sheets, they are not foldable !

    Hope this helps :-) xxx

We're making ours, just purchased all the cards and lining paper, just got to work out how long it'll take as each one needs to be hand cut and as my partner is a perfectionist it could take a while lol!

I made mine. After ridiculous quotes in just paper, anything between £175-535 for 100 invites and order of service. In the end we got good quality card to make inserts, which was £2.99 for 500 sheets, so plenty for mistakes, and one of the cheapest places for meat mg cards/ envelopes, in loads of colour choices, was j0 hn l3 wis, cheaper then h0 bby cr aft, and other various shops. I put mat gnat tartan ribbon on mine which was £2.50 per 5 meter roll, and pearl hearts which was 59p for 38 in a pack, and used my FIL to be, printer. It took a couple of evenings to complete, but all together cost around £15, the stamps were more expensive then the invites believe it or not! And we've had so many positive comments about them. Because believe it or not, whether we like to think people do, but apart from parents and ourselves, most people throw them away after. And there's so many more things to spend money on I think. So if you have the patience and time, I would make your own xx

We're in the middle of making ours! As Vickie mentioned, it takes a lot of time if you're waiting for weekends and time off. There was definitely a bit of heartache along the way - I'm surprised we managed not to stuff ivory card down each others throats at certain points in the proceedings! - but I have to say, having seen them all lined up and ready to go, there's a great feeling of satisfaction that we made them ourselves (plus relief!).
Added to that there are the savings. I suppose that depends on how many guests you're inviting but ours were going to be just short of £1000 if we had bought them with all the little extras we wanted - inserts to tell guests directions, accommodation etc - so there are HUGE savings to be made if you do your own.
We had a look round online to see ideas that we liked and then came up with what we wanted :)

I'm making ours, as well as our save the dates, table plan, etc.

The type of invites I like (classic/vintage, with lace, ribbon, and diamante/pearl embellishment) tend to sell for £5-6 each, with save the dates about £3-4 each. So far, we've only ordered the bits for the save-the-dates, but it's cost us about £90 in total for them: that's for 70 professionally printed personalised cards and envelopes, ribbon, lace, and pearl/diamante embellishments; so, about £1.30 per card plus time.

The invites should work out at a similar price; about £1.50 per invite.

Still not super-cheap, and obviously there's my time as well, but a lot better than £5 lol.

I made mine - I found the idea on a wedding blog. I bought some pre-folded card and then had a stamp custom made with our names and wedding date on it and stamped away to my heart's content! Unfortunately, I had a bit of difficulty with the inserts as I didn't check that I could buy them in the same size as the card but luckily my dad knew a printer's who could do them for us. Stuck them in with double-sided tape down the spine and voila! Came to less than £100 and everyone loves the personal touch (each invite looks slightly different because of the stamp - some of them have a full print, some a little faded - loving the rustic look!)

I found after lots of searching.... Going for a vintage lace theme, for all stationary I wanted it a coming in about £1000. I couldn't justify such a big spend on lots of card and paper.... So I used Pintrest gots lots of ideas, found an amazing American website that sold all coloured card, pre cut to any size, with envelopes, inserts and pocket folds ordered some samples, and have just spent £350 inc tax on lace, and everything including tapes and glue for ...

80 invitations (pocketofld) including card cut to size for 3 inserts,(accommodation, gift list, and directions)
    80 envelopes
    80 RSVP cards and envelopes
Enough card cut to size for table plan, all double mounted, going on a old frame covered in hessian.
Enough card again to make double mounted table name tags, and place settings.
About 70 metres of lace to go around all the invites, table names and place settings.

For my save the dates I ordered a custom made stamp, and old brown luggage labels.

And to top this whilst I have lots of time I am really enjoying making them.

For me it's cheaper to have ours made as otherwise I'd have to go and buy a new printer lol. Plus we want chequebook style which I think would be a royal pain to print at home.

it completely depends on what type of invite you want.
I find that if you want the pocketfold ones they tend to start at about £3.80 each with all the inserts if you get them done.
I am doing my own and its looking to cost me about £1.50 each (not made them yet but rough estimate)

I think it depends on the type of invite that you would like.

But people on face of book can make them for cheaper prices, and they are handmade.

I am making my own they should cost around £1.00 each to make, as i am using my own stock.

It would be easier to buy but I enjoy making things and seemed the most obvious thing to do.

    Thanks girls,

I would like to make my own and would possibly be better due to the fact I would need to out several options in for our guests wanting to stay for 1 Week and those for 2 Weeks as we are getting married in Crete. But as I work in the hotel trade and my h2b is a chef I am not 100% if we would have the time due to strange working hours and tbh I don't know if we have the artistic skills between us, lol
