    Hey Guys,

Hope you can help me with a few questions. Basically Im looking for a poem, that asks people for money instead of gifts towards a honeymoon, but i dont want it to sound rude.

Also do you send these with the invites? I have got a box for the cards with money in that my mum has decorated for us, but this also has a space on the front for a sheet of A4 to say what its for, do I put the same poem on here?

Im confused! lol Thanks for any advice in advance! x

This is the one I got off the bay of e:

The most important gift to us is to have you share our day but should you wish to contribute in some other way, then help us on our honeymoon in our chosen paradise, a little extra spending money would be really nice.

These are printed on little cards in your chosen colour with a picture of a plane at the top pulling a just married banner and a picture of a cocktail at the bottom. We put them in with our invites.
I think the space on the front is where you put your names and the wedding date, I have seen cards printed for this also on the bay of e for afew pounds.
    Hope this helps xx

We haven’t got a wedding list, the reasons we’ll explain,
It’s to save you all the hassle as shopping is a pain.
We thought we’d ask you all for something else instead,
A small contribution towards a holiday in the med.

we havent got a gift list, for all of you to see,
Coz as you all know, we never can agree.
So if you'd like to help us, to start our married life,
Money towards the honeymoon would really please the wife

We asked for money or honeymoon vouchers when we got married - and put a poem in with the invites. This is the one we used (and nobody took offence, as we were given money by everyone in the end).

    Our Wedding

We’ve been together for a few years now
    and have a lovely home.
There are not too many items that
    we don’t already own.
    So please don’t be offended
and please don’t think we’re brash
If you’re thoughts were on a present
we ‘d much prefer Thomas Cook vouchers or cash.
The choice is really up to you
and we would like to say
We hope you come and enjoy yourselves
    on this our special day

    We've used this:

If you were thinking of giving a gift, to help us on our way,
A gift of cash towards our honeymoon would really make our day.
However, if you prefer to purchase a gift, feel free to surprise us in your own special way.

    were having:

The date has been set and we’d love you to come,
To celebrate our wedding, a long way for some,
All you must do, is decide what to wear,
Then polish your jewellery and comb up your hair.

Don’t worry about gifts, don’t buy us a yacht,
The things that we need, we’ve already got.
Our home is quite compact, we may have to move
Then our storage and space will surely improve.

Don’t go out shopping or get yourself stressed,
Don’t alter your plans for a pre wedding rest.
If you want to be generous, despite what we’ve said,
Then save all the hassle and do this instead….

Don’t know how to word this but will give it our best shot…
Contributions are most welcome, we’ll go somewhere hot!
A honeymoon would be marvellous, to start off our life.
In our long winding journey, as new husband and wife!

I dont think people would be offended because people expect to be buying a wedding gift or giving a gift of money because its tradition, it does'nt mean they have to give you an expensive gift or a large sum of money. Its a good idea the wedding website but what about people who may not have access to the net?

How about using the one kim1987 said and just take out :

Our home is quite compact, we may have to move
Then our storage and space will surely improve.

The sentence previous to this could then be added on to the bottom of the one prior or the one after x

This is ours, i liked the light hearted feeling of it.

    Please find within this poem,
    information just for you,
    With some rules and regulations,
that we both insist you do.

    The first one is vital,
if you're to be our guest,
To eat, drink and be merry,
    or do your very best.

    The second is an order,
so don't bring two left feet,
as when the evening comes around,
you MUST dance to the beat.

The third rule can be broken,
    we really do not mind,
but if you choose to follow it,
    thank you for being kind.

We've been together for a few years,
    and have a lovely home,
so there are lots of items,
    that we already own.

So if your thoughts were on a gift
    your presence will suffice,
but if you really feel the need,
    then money would be nice.

The choice is really up to you,
and we would like to say,
we hope you come, enjoy yourselves,
    and have a lovely day.

    We know it's not traditional
It's not the way it's done
But instead of a wedding list
We'd like a bit of sun.

Please do not think of us as rude
    Please do not take offence
We do not want to upset you
That's not the way it's meant.

We've lived together quite a while
And all the bills are paid
We've got our plates, our pots and pans
Our plans have all been made.

So if you'd like to give a gift
    To help us celebrate
    Some money for a honeymoon
    We would appreciate

When thinking of a gift for us
We ask if you’d please consider
    Contributing to our honeymoon
to make it all the sweeter.
Our house is full of all the things
    a couple could require,
    and so a holiday away
    is what we most desire.
Then while we're relaxing on the beach
or by the pool so blue
    we'll sit back and know
that it is truly thanks to you!

Alas! Friends and family, in sin we've been living,
And if you're not yet sure what you plan on giving,
We have dozens of towels and a toaster or two,
Plenty of cutlery and glassware too.
Some memories to last for ever,
Is what these newlyweds will truly treasure.
We dream of visting faraway lands,
So come to you all, begging bowl in hand!
The gift we require needs no wrapping or tags,
But we hope it will help us to pack our bags,
And fly away on our first trip together,
    A honeymoon to remember forever.

well towards the end of getting everything for the wedding hopefully we are going to start putting some aside for the honeymoon, and then on top of that money from the guest think my mum will put some in the fund.. and if we havent got enough stright after the wedding then we will continue saving for the honeymoon till we do, aleast all the guests have still contributed towards it. :) xx

If you can afford to pay for the rest yourself them i would book your honeymoon and then use the money to pay it off.. but if you will only be able to afford to go on what people give you then i would suggest just waiting till after the wedding and then booking a holiday for the money you have.

We'd already booked and paid for our honeymoon by the time we'd sent out our poems, as the honeymoon usually has to be paid weeks in advance unless you're booking last minute. We booked with Thomas Cook and were told that if we were given vouchers, we could take them into one of their branches and they would credit us with the value back onto the card we paid with.

We were only given cash though, so used some for spending money on honeymoon and banked the rest for things we might need for the house etc.

Word of warning girls, we didnt think this one through until people have started asking.

Our poem said "...holiday in the med" as we're going to Spain which is all booked. But we are staying with friends and don't really need too much money, but I have had 3 people asking if we'd prefer euros instead of pounds. Now I'm panicking others will just get euros and we'll end up with loads ha. Can never please a bride ey?

We havent booked a honeymoon as the wedding was a cancellation, so weve concentrated on getting that sorted. Which is why we wanted money for the honeymoon. We havent booked it as we are going to take a late deal with however much we have. I am not fussed where to be honest as long as we have a week or so together after all the stress! lol x

    Hey All,

Thought you might like to know what I decided on. Well i decided to design my own as our wedding is a peacock theme and I couldnt find anything relevant. Chose a poem which suited us and had a play about in photoshop. Printed them off yesterday on some card and punched them with a heart, must have only cost a couple of quid..

    The poem I found was..

We are sending out this invitation
In hope you will join a celebration
But if a gift is your intention
May we take this opportunity to mention
We have already got a kettle and toaster
crockery dinner mats and matching coasters.
So rather than something we've already got
We would appreciate money for our honeymoon pot
    But more importantly to request
That you come to our wedding as our guest.

Had a email from a supplier advertising stationary and they sent us some options. (We are making own invites so think the company got my address from wedding fayre). This is the best one I have found.

We really hope that you can join us
    On our special day
    You’ll make our memories complete
    In every single way
We do not have a gift list
    And we know you’ll understand

Our house and contents are complete
With pots and plates and pans
But should you really want to give
    And celebrate this way

Then we would appreciate your help
To send us on our way
    A contribution to our honeymoon
In a land quite far away

    But most importantly, we request,
You come to our wedding as our guest
To share with us our special day
And have some fun along the way

we've seen these two poems so far...

"If you were thinking of giving us a gift,
to help us on our way,
then a gift of cash towards our home*
    will really make our day
but whats most important of all
    you really mustnt forget
what we really want from you
in that you be our wedding guests" *you could change this for Honeymoon

"Our life together has already begun,
we have almost everything under the sun.
If you were thinking of buying a gift,
a little extra money would give us a lift.
    But most importantly, we request,
you share our day as our wedding guest.
Now that we've saved you any fuss,

I put this on our website / invites - it's a little tweak from one I found online

The date has been set and we'd love you to come,
to celebrate our wedding, a long way for some.

All you must do, is decide what to wear,
then polish your jewellery and comb up your hair.

Don't go out shopping or get yourself stressed.
Don't alter your plans for a pre wedding rest.

If you want to be generous, despite what we've said,
then save all the hassle and do this instead:

Don't know how to word this but will give it our best shot.
Contributions are most welcome, we'll go somewhere hot!

A honeymoon would be marvellous, to start off our life,
in our long winding journey as husband and wife!

We're using this and it is going in with the invites. We've tweaked it a bit because it had a line about having high street vouchers and H2B thought if we kept it in that's all we would end up with.

You're invited to our wedding day when we both say "I do"
And the most important thing to us is sharing our day with you.
As we've been "I doing" (for at least a year or two)
There's no wedding gift list as the things we need are few.
So if you'd like to give a gift to help us celebrate
Some money towards our honeymoon we would appreciate
The choice is really up to you, and we'd really like to say,
That the very best gift is you, with us, on our special day.
