    Hi all,

Just wanted to give a shout out to fellow vintagey brides and possibly exchange ideas.

I am a vintage enthusiast and dress in 40s or 50s style every day so naturally our wedding is going to reflect this. At first I wanted a very kitschy, loud, American-diner-esque theme but h2b is not as loud as me :-)
So I am trying to tone it down but I don't want to go the usual shabby chic lacey floral vintage route but rather keep it polka-dotty in the 50s.

I am also a crafter so obviously hardly anything will be a package deal just bought in. Can't wait to start crafting now!

    Who else is out there?

Sounds fab! My friends did something very similar (Faye dresses in 50's style every day too) and their wedding was Amazing! Very them.

Unfortunately not a crafter myself but we're into sixties soul and motown and our reception is very 60's!

    Can't wait to be married!

I love the kitsch idea.. but im not sure how i would find a venue where it would look good? Where are you getting married? I like the shabby chic idea but think that by the time i actually do get married i will have gone off of it.
a friend of a friend got married in vegas with a 50's theme and it looked awesome!

Hi hun I love many different types of crafts. What areas of craft do you most do? I am looking forward to scrapbooking all the little momentos of my day as a keepsake for years to come. I made my invites, wine charms for guests and other bits and bobs. There are lots of ladies on here who have done lots of items for their wedding so there are lots of people to talk to about crafting.
Oh also if you unrestrict your profile page ladies can send you friend requests. xxx

    Hello there,

    will unrestrict my page.

I crochet a lot and am in general very partial to anything homemade.

The DIY plan for the wedding was

    - design invite (though will buy template off etsy, I think this is the easiest solution) and print myself
    - tablecards/nametags - will cut out from foam sheets or maybe felt black moustaches for the chaps and red lips for the ladies, stick on a long skewer and attach price tags with names. For the kiddos I will crochet each a mini cupcake and also attach a price tag with name.
    - wedding program I was going to do myself too but will also go for etsy solution and print myself (me thinks)
    - the ring bearer pillow will be a lifesize cupcake I'll crochet
    - buy cardstock off ebay, will print various words like Yay, Woo, Hooray and similar on it and wrap around sticks - flags to wave and cheer when we walk out after saying I do (much cleaner than throwing stuff :-))
    - same principle for mini flags for food
    - I will have a DIY photobooth - will just borrow a tripod and a digital camera and put up in front of a background I'll make (big board, stapled on red fabric with white polkadots and some signs). I'll also make some props (similar to nametag holders)
    - table runners. I have six bridesmaids and each is wearing a different colour - red, blue, green, yellow, orange and purple and the flower girl in pink - all will wear a 50s dress with white polka dots. I'll purchase cheap fabric in all those colours with white polka dots and sew some very simple table runners.
    - not sure yet if we have benches or chairs - if the latter I will just tie rests of the fabric around the chairs - I really don't like the usual white chair covers.
    - for boutonnieres I will get white silk daisys with a stem, will wrap around blue florist tape and sew onto a red felt heart or tie around a red ribbon with white polkadots, at the back I'll attach brooch pins
    - I am going to collect vintage china and vintage glassware and fill with very little daisies and colourful gerberas (in wedding colours ofc).
    - have not fully decided on centerpieces - I quite lile stacks of old books because I am a real bookie but I don't know yet. I might also scatter little plastic bows in wedding colours all over the tables. Also not quite sure yet.
    - I don't really want a guestbook - will propably print lot's of short poems or famous love quotes on cardstock and have them standing around as little signs but will encourage guests to write a message on the back and put it into ->
    - will buy red polka dotted little vintagey suitcase, pad with a nice fabric, hang up old string and hang up each letter individually with pegs CARDS.
    - and let's not forget bunting. Lot's and lots of bunting. But I will buy it off ebay because it's so much cheaper than actually making it. But I will crochet a few cupcake garlands :-)
    - also want to buy paper lampshades in wedding colours and hang up

I am from Bedfordshire and we'll get married in a beautiful beautiful gastro pub that actually also holds a wedding licence. And if we can scrape the budget together we will put up a marquee for the reception. If not stay inside the restaurant of the pub :-)

    That made me laugh :-)

I've got 6-7 (might change date again) to do all this and am sure will have help. But the ideas keep coming, my head is spinning from more and more and more desire to do other things aswell :-)

i.e. a candy bar - this would be so cool, so pretty and very us but we will have a whole load of 3 year olds running around. And I really don't want to spend my wedding day arguing with my son that he can't eat 3 jars full of sweets all at once :-)

Oh just remembered - have ebayed my dress for very little money but will totally customise it.

Sounds fab! We are kind of doing 50's vintage in that we are having a late wedding so we can do black tie hollywood glamour. I would love a full skirt but being very top heavy they do nothing for me so am more going down the slinky route to show off my curves. I used to design and handmake wedding stationery so if you need a hand/advice looking for craft suppliers etc drop me a line! LOVE the crochet cup cake idea though!!!!

I sing in a band that does 40-50's type stuff and I dress up in stuff for that. Have a polkadot dress I made myself that I wear for the park gigs, more evening wear for other stuff. Sounds like you've got loads of good ideas and lots to do!
I've designed my own invites, shoes, veil...and cake! That's about it...oh and centerpieces :) good luck! xx

I'd love to have a swing or jazz band or a combo like the Andrew sisters but that's sadly over budget.

You can get some bands quite cheap, I have no idea what Norman charges, but I get paid £20-30 per gig, and we're about 8-12 people. Or you can get a singer or two that have their own playback on disc, they shouldn't cost that much either. I'd do it for ya if I lived in your area ;) xx

    Would be great! :-)
I'll shop around, we have so much time left.

I think we have agreed on centerpieces - yay.

Vintage books stacked up in non neat piles. But I will source pretty books with lovely titles and not actually meaningful (to us) books. If we have separate tables (opposed to long benches pushed together) we might name them after love story novels or novels that mean a lot to us.

Also - though h2b is not that keen but he sees my point - I have decided on rest of table deco. I am totally obsessed with toadstools and fawns and collect them. At the place where we getting married is a fake deer head (I am ridiculiusly excited about this) and we are getting married right under it. The room (old historic pub) is also decorated with sticks of wood and tree through the wooden beams. So I thought it would be appropriate to bring my personal collection to the wedding and will source more vintage wood creatures figurines and toadstools for the tables.

I am so excited about this, have been bouncing up and down all day! :-)

There's a bridal shop in London that collects genuine vintage wedding dresses, from the 1920's-70's with particular interest in the 1950's if anyone is interested. Price range £499-950, link on my wall :) Xx

    Little update...

Crocheting the bouquet is in full swing (see album) and I've also started crocheting the mini cupcakes for the kids name cards but no pics yet.
Tonight I will tackle the first boutonniere, might still add stuff at a later point.

Have also decided on keeping the entire wedding totally (real) flower free but will make loads and loads of tissue paper pom poms. Will have a day with mil and 2 of her daughters (also 2 of my bms) folding paper :-)
And I have just now bought my first kitschy deer pottery off the bay!

I love how it's all taking shape now!

No, I tried the honeycomb balls but failed miserably. At this rate I'll end up with Crepe Paper Pomanders. Or maybe I'll try ribbon ones. I hate being defeated by crafts!

I wanted lots of white honeycomb balls in different sizes as a back drop to the sweet table - the little hall we're looking at has a small upstairs sofa area where I'm going to put it but it's quite dark, I thought the white would brighten the area up.

I like the flower looking pomanders, but prefer the honeycomb ones. I know you can buy them, but that's not the same. When I was little my grandad used to make all sorts of amazing things with crepe paper, unfortunately the skill wasn't passed on.

On the plus side, I've ordered some ribbon, pins and polystyrene balls to make a few white ribbon pomanders - going for texture variation rather than colour.

I like the tissue paper pom poms better - and simple paper lamp shades (but I agree it's not the same as they are bought in).

Texture variation is great. I love all those things for decoration.
