Hi, I have just joined and am hoping for your expertise/advise. I bought my dress in the sample sale so it it a little too big. I have just been for my first fitting and am now worried the dress will not fit me well enough! The seamstress was recommended by the shop and I have confidence in her work but I could not get a proper idea of what it will look like with parts pinned ect.
Is it normal to feel like this after your first fitting??
    Thanks ladies.......

I think you will feel like that until you see it fitting properly. I was worried about mine fitting me, kept putting off trying it on, when I did I had little worries.

I get married in January and my dress arrived last week, went in to try it on and it's massive. Had to be ordered this way as I'm pregnant but it is very hard to see what it will look like until it's fitted to me. I haven't got my first fitting until 3 weeks before my wedding so I'm petrified it will look silly although I still love the dress itself.

I think it's normal because alterations can change the shape completely! X

i know a girl who is having her dress taken in 3 sizes!, i think seamstresses are very capable and used to alterations. In my shop the owner was completely changing a dress for one bride without batting an eyelid. My dress needs taking in and she said it would be no drama whatsoever, its also far easier to take a dress in than let it out, i don't think you have anything to worry about! :-)

That's what the alterations are for, to make it fit x

i seen a show where the bride had lost 140lbs that's 10 stone. the dress basically had to be ripped apart and re-cut and put back together but that seamstress worked wonders. it can be done so do not worry. these women have a tremendous amoutn of talent which is why they can get away with charging the money they do for alterations. they can fix 99.95 of issues on a bridal gown. short of a gorn having a massive tear down the front of it or a huge stain the situation will be fixable xx

My dress was also a sample and had to be taken in a lot and also made shorter, but it looked fine. Someone even asked who had fitted it as it was so well done. It doesn't look right until it's altered.
