    Hi all
Just a bit of a rant really, i cant believe how some people try to run a business, the other month i arranged to see a cake maker when i went up north, i had made the appointment for 3pm, but my mum then told me that we were going out to lunch for my great aunties 80th birthday so i thought id best change it to 4pm, i tried ringing everyday for about 2 weeks - nothing! i sent her an email, face-booked her, everything, i eventually did get a response via email saying 4pm was fine (she said it went to her junk but what about all the phone call messages i had left?) anyway.... i decided to still go ahead with this appointment, she only didn't go and turn up! i rang and left a message....nothing, i left a fb message, the next day it got deleted and still nothing. I decided to move on and asked my mother to go and test the water of a few cake makes for me so i could see a selected few (or one) when i next go up north, i made appointments with 2 this Saturday, one went fine, the other one..... once again didn't turn up! i rang and left a message and this lady did send me a text a few hours later saying she was sorry but her daughter had got rushed into hospital to have a baby the night before, im feeling that if they cant even turn up for an appointment or let me know they cant make it should i trust them to do my wedding cake???

i would check that their names are not on the scammers pages on fb babe, regarding the woman whos just become a grandma, i think that due to the situation, this needs to be tred on very carefully. yes she could have told you, however, its not the sort of thing you think about when you (or your daughter) go into labour. I understand how your feeling, there is alot of this going on at the moment. check out some of the wedding scamming fb pages, then if they are not mentioned on there, give them the benefit of the doubt.

Tbf, if her daughter had a baby that's a pretty legitimate excuse. I'd be well peeved if my cake make Mum ran off to talk to soemone about a cake than being with my new baby or even my birth partner, so i don't think you should hold her to that, but try and arrange another appointment with her, and be nice. I know you're angry now, but the she's just become a grandmother, maybe for the first time, she's excited and in her head it is going to be better than your cake. So if you go in all like you missed our first appointment, she might push you off on purpose.

As for the first woman. Complete muppet. Agree with you being upset. People like that clearly don't want the business, even though we're in hard times. If she has a facebook page, leave her business a review saying what happened. Who cares if it annoys her, she wasted your tie and other to-be brides should be warned.

    Good luck.

Did she have any way of contacting you? That would make the difference to me. As a small business owner myself, I know only too well how sometimes life will get in the way of work and thats fair enough, we are after all only human and can't be expected to be on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. However, if I have ever had to cancel an appointment due to personal reasons, I would do just that, I would ring them to let them know before the appointment time. Was she unable to contact you or did she just not think it was important.

    Hiya

Yes she had a way of contacting me, both my email and phone number, just feel bad that my mum and sister went and got wet through in the rain waiting for her, i didn't know there was a group on fb for scammers, I have now requested to join-thanks for that and now will be able to make sure anyone else i choose isn't on that list! Like i say one woman on Saturday turned up for the appointment and mum said it all seemed very nice so might make an appointment with her when i next go up north x

be careful that anygroup you choose to join for scammers that a woman called gail reeve is not an admin as she herself has upset a lot of b2b's. there are a few scammers pages on fb.

Be careful who you get to do it but to be fair I wouldn't even think to ring the person I was possibly going to be doing business with if my daughter had a baby
My mum didn't even ring work to say she wouldn't be in when I had my daughter (she was my birth partner) she rang after I had my baby 2 hours after she should of started work
Just go with a proper cake maker with a shop or with good testimonials online

New baby or not, the lack of prompt communication would be a deal killer for me. I'd look elsewhere.

I'm a little disturbed by people saying baby or no baby she's running a business .... Just put your selfin that position ( hard I know if you don't have children) I have 3 daughters 25,19,18 and if they need me to take them to hospital while they have a baby I'm afraid the thought process would not be as follows ...

Oh daughter of course I will. Stay with you while you go through the scarey and painful t hing that is childbirth .

Oh hang on I have an appointment for a cake consultation

Do you thing you could hang on until after I done ?

Should only be an hour or so

..at least she got hold of you after to apologise n explain why !

I'm not an unreasonable person and really do understand that things can happen, I think I'm just a bit weary after the first lady totally messed me about and don't want the same to happen again, If this lady hadn't have done this I think I wouldn't have had a problem at all with the 2nd lady.

Of course I wouldn't expect her to wait etc or even turn up, just a call/email would have been nice as I feel responsible for messing around my mum and sister.

update: have just found on on facebook that the baby isnt being borm until next week (her words on Saturday teatime) and she was still preparing for a wedding fair on the sunday on thh day that should have been our appointment

i decided to leave it as i figured i dont need the extra stress and have made an appointment to see the first lady my mum and sister went to see when i go up north next weekend. A friend made a good point also, they probably all know each other etc and its probably best not to upset anyone just in case they pass it on and then this could cause you to end up in trouble, have to say though im not impressed and if she is going to lie about something then she should be more careful about putting things on fb x

The first woman standing you up should get stuffed - she obviously doesn't deserve your business; as for the second woman whose daughter gave birth; I think you just have to accept that these things happen and understand like Lala said that if she had the choice between you and her daughter; I think you can understand why she went with the latte option.

Wow that's awful. Maybe that is one of the reasons so many brides now order their wedding cakes online from the likes of M&S and Waitrose or if you want yours customised Vintage Glamour Cakes(l have discount codes for them, if you are interested just mail me).

If you've had a bad experience with those suppliers then just put it down to that and find another you feel totally happy and comfortable with. I found ours through a recommendation through the bridal boutique I got my wedding dress and bridesmaid dresses from. Turned out to be fantastic. See if anyone can make some recommendations xxx
