I was thinking about honeymoons on my drive home from work tonight and realised I have absolutely no idea where to start :o/ Obviously we need to have an idea what we want from our honeymoon, but we want to ask our guests to do a contribution (if they want to, it's what my Sister and H2B's Sister did), but I'm wondering if we have that option if we go to a travel agent and if they'll take the mickey if we mention the word honeymoon. H2B doesn't like shopping so it will have to be as hassle free as possible!

We found travel agents to be nothing but really helpful and understanding about still keeping to a budget. In fact, they threw in a couple of extras for us, including free entry to the v-lounge at Gatwick, free upgrade at the Four Se@sons on our return to Vegas and gave us an additional discount! It wouldn't hurt to go and get some costings together. We did that just so we could then do our our compare search online and tbh, there really wasn't much in it (pence rather than pounds, in fact).
Where are you thinking of going?

We're thinking of Greece for a week. We don't really do holidays, so a week would be just right. We'll then just have a week at home. A honeymoon gift list is ideal as we've already got a house together, but H2B is worried about what happens if the contributions end up being more than the cost of the honeymoon

There's no need to worry about it, it would just be a lovely bonus! You can do things like MrsBull2B has said above and of course you can have more spending money and treat yourselves to some lovely things while you're out there! :) if you still have too much then maybe you could have a second honeymoon in the UK when you get home - spend a few days at the coast or something?
I agree that travel agents were nothing but helpful when we were honeymoon shopping, and chucked in a few extras for us too. We booked through Th0m50n, and they gave us a room upgrade, seats with extra leg room at no extra cost and have paid for a private taxi transfer from airport to hotel and back when we arrive to make it feel more special.
As for getting more than the holiday, I agree with the comments above. You could upgrade, see if you can use it for excursions, have a smaller UK break, anything that takes your fancy! I know some travel agents do trips out to different UK attractions, or use it for a ferry trip to Amsterdam/Brugges etc. There's lots that you can do :) x

Well, we booked it today and we're having a week in Egypt. The travel agent was really helpful and we got a really good deal. We've got all inclusive at a 5* hotel for £1800 for the two of us. She's noted that it's a honeymoon so fingers crossed for upgrades etc!

Well done :D Fingers crossed you get some perks!
We're planning 3 weeks away in Florida. We're big kids at heart and I love Disney so we're doing all the parks plus NASA and a few other things. The BMANs family has already said they will be happy to use some benefits from their timeshare to pay for an apartment in one of the marriott hotels/villas/villages in Orlando and we get to choose which one too :D
OH is adament he wants to just book flights online for going there but I am going to try and convince him to at least go to a travel agents with me see if we can get a good deal. I want to fly premium economy if we can because I get really stressed in airports and want it to be as relaxing as possible.

Victoria I would try a travel agents, just to see if they can get a good deal on the flights, even if you do your research on the internet beforehand. My OH is the same but even he agreed it was better actually talking to someone face to face.
We just need to find ourselves some travel insurance now. Th0m3s C00k quoted us £45 each but that covers us from the day that we take it out to the day we fly home. Just been on a couple of comparison sites and there's some really cheap quotes but it looks like it literally covers the week we're away. Wondering if it would be more cost effective to pay more money and cover all eventualities or go cheap.
