Hi, my names Lorraine, I've been with my fiancé for nearly 14 years and have 3 beautiful children, we've been engaged for about 6 years and have finally set a date for our wedding but it's not until July 2016! I've had mixed reviews from friends about when I should start looking for my dress and has just left me confused! I am really eager and excited about looking for my dress but is it too soon???

This is where I make a huge confession. My OH and I have been together now 8 and a half years. We were talking a lot from year 3 about getting married but he kept bottling it out of fear (poor lamb) I knew he would propose soon and during a visit to bridal shop on January 2012 with a friend just to have a little look at what they had I spoke to the sales manager about what I was looking for. I tried on 2 dresses and found thee dress! It fit like a glove and wasn't at all what I expected! So I paid the deposit and that was it!

My fiancée finally proposed on June 2013... a year and a half later...Yeeup... so uhm... no, you're not too early.

Hi lorraine i dont think its too soon if you want to start looking its up to and when you know you have found the one then its up to you if when you want to buy it. Im not getting married until july 2015 and started looking at dresses around january this year

I wouldn't say its too soon. The only way I would avoid looking now would be if you have a tendency to change your mind a lot or planning on loosing weight, otherwise, go for it!

there is no harm in going for a look to get a feel for what you would like and to get an idea of price etc.

I tried the first dress I liked on 3 years before my wedding day before I was even engaged! I didn't stop looking at others until I bought my dress in March this year. It's never too early, just be sure to stop looking once you've found it! Xx

Victoria!! That's ace and really made me chuckle!!! I'm sort of a last minute kinda girl so I found mine a couple of months ago and we get married in October (and even then I wondered if it was too soon haha). I change my mind like the weather so if I ordered something too soon I know me - I would probably want something completely different by the time it came to the wedding!! But, I know lots of people get them years in advance and I know some can take a long time to be made. Nothing stopping you from looking - and if you find "the one" then you'll know what to do xx

Oh gosh it was embarrassing when the sales manager let slip the date I bought it when we went back last week to look at Bridesmaids dresses... And my future MOTHER IN LAW WAS THERE! She cracked up and thought it was hilarious! Thankfully we get along really well.

I'm getting married July 11th 2015 and will be starting looking when I'm free next as originally I was thinking 6 months before but after speaking to some brides they told me it's best a bit earlier to look to find right styles and it be more relaxed and at least then you have more time for alterations etc Good luck when you start looking :)

I bought mine 18 months before my wedding day but it took 10 months to come in so I'm glad I didn't leave it until a year before like I was going to! Xxx
