Hi, we're getting ours made professionally as although myself and a few members of our family all make nice cakes, it is the decorating bit that i'd be more worried about and I don't necessarily trust any of us to do it well enough! This is becuase we specifically want a tiered cake though. My mum got married last year and me and my sister made about 100 cupcakes for the wedding cake and they turned out really well and we got lots of compliments for them! I'd say it also depends on what kind of cake you want too - if you're having fruit cake and can make it in advance of the wedding that'd be less stressful than making a sponge cake a day or two before!

I run my own small buisness making cakes and I'm a total control freak so there is no way I could let someone else do our cake! Mine is going to be totally unique though, there will be a large square bottom tier and then I'll be using pillers to suspend the top tier which will be a molded cake in the shape of a hill with a cake replica of the castle we are getting married in on top of the hill. Our cake toppers will be hand made sugarcraft dragons. I just hope it looks the way I see it in my mind!

I think tiered cakes are nicer, having said that, i'm making cupcakes for ours. I can decorate cakes, but i'm NEVER happy with what i do so i really didn't want to make my own but money insists. My OH was adamant that we were going to have a 4 tier cake for our 60 guests but this week i've been making a cake for my friend's wedding and he's changed his mind now he's seen how much work is involved, so cupcakes it is!

My step father is making my cupcakes for us to save money and it gives him an important role in the wedding. We want one big cupcake for the top tier but i havent asked him if he can make one yet so we might have to get that one made professionally, either way it will be much cheaper than getting them all made by a company.

I was going to have cupcakes because all the tiered cakes I've seen have been between £500-£700 and there is no way I'd pay that for a cake. I've had a few quotes for cupcakes ranging from £190-£240, then I was at a wedding fayre last sunday and explained to a cake lady that I wanted cupcakes for cheapness and she asked what our budget was for the cake, I said £300 and she told me that all of her tiered cakes were under £300. I could of kissed her so now I have had a complete change of mind.

I've voted for cupcakes for you because I'd imagine they'd be easier to do but it's really up to you and what your skills allow.

    I can't wait until 29/06/2013
The day I marry the man of my dreams!

maybe im being old fashioned but i prefer the tiered one to a cupcake one. we saw one when we went to view our venue witht eh parentals and i just didnt think it looked nice at all. also it did looked rushed. our planner explained that it was her theme everything was cupcakes.

our family friend is doing our cake. h2b designed it and its costing us £360 for a 4 tiered cake and im looking forward to seeing the finished design!!

end of the day its what you want and i hope you enjoy what you choose xxx
