Just wondering what "extras" people are having for their reception? So far we haven't put anything together. OH is adamant he doesn't want a photo booth and is all about keeping the cost as down as far as possible, but shouldn't we have something extra - ie a sweetie ferris wheel, chocolate fountain? Just concerned that with no extras, it's going to look a bit plain....

I wouldn't be concerned about not having them if you don't want them or if you can't afford them. Your guests will be able to entertain themselves and I am sure they will still have a ball!
We have a magician who I think we're going to use to cover the gap between the wedding breakfast and the evening reception started, he will also welcome our evening guests on our behalf and carry on into the evening. We're also doing a DIY photo booth - I couldn't justify spending all that money on a professional one so decided to compromise xx

Our only entertainment bar the dj is a photobooth, our venue do a great deal on one so we got it fairly cheaply. How about a casino? We loooked into one with a roulette wheel and blackjack table but as we were having the photo booth we thought it might be a bit much so we're just sticking with the photobooth xx
CommentAuthorGlitterfairy
I was tempted to get the big lawn games, but did not want to commit until I knew the weather, in the end we never did and everyone entertained amongst themselves between the end of the ceremony and the reception. Then for dancing we knew someone with a PA system, they put the music together on the laptop and a friend sorted that out for us.
We are just having the DJ at the moment. I would love an ice cream cart but OH isn't keen. neither of us want a photo booth as we aren't keen on them.

If you are having a sit down three course meal and then a buffet I would be tempted to say steer away from foodie things, as your guests will be stuffed anyway! Or ensure it is incorporated with the buffet i.e. chocolate fountain as a pudding option.
I love the idea of giant lawn games. I had thought about that too but I wouldn't want to take the risk with the weather and have wasted the money if it pees it down!!

We've booked a DJ and the venue supplies big lawn games as part of the wedding package. Yes we are having a 3 course meal and in the evening will be providing bacon / sausage baps and fish n chips. Quite like the idea of a DIY photo prop thing - how are you doing that Flossie in terms of camera?

That's a bonus having the lawn games included in your package!
We've not fully decided yet but I think we will just provide our own digital camera and get a selfie stick for it, then everyone can just take pics of themselves that way and all the photos will be stored in one place so we can just download them and print them off and then put them into a book :)
In terms of props we've got plenty of props on sticks (i.e. moustaches, lips, hearts, glasses) that we're going to put in jars for people to just pick out what they like. Also got some "real" props like inflatable instruments/animals, glasses, wigs, feather boas. Found most of the stuff on the bay and @m@zon quite cheaply xx

I'm thinking more and more about a photo booth. You can choose the style, buy some cheap fancy clothes and then the guests can have two pics taken - one for them and one for the wedding book. That's what I saw on the last wedding I've been to and it was such a fun! So yeah, a photo booth for me if possible. If not... chocolate fountain!!!
CommentAuthorBaker2Be
Were having a photo booth blow up one so much cheaper haha :) and the oh is making a candy cart as well. hope that and the dj is enough entertainment for people.
So wanted the ice cream one but oh said no :( it was just going to be for me haha huge bowl of mint choc chip ice cream

We're having it all lol, so far have a casino booked, a photo booth booked, a sweetie Ferris wheel booked and fireworks at midnight still need to book a DJ and something to entertain the kids and if we have enough in the budget we would like some live music too. However we are getting married on NYE so we really want to play on this and have the party of a life time and we have gotten some really good deals on the stuff we have already booked, for example we will only be paying cost price for the fireworks (my dad works for a large retail store which sells fireworks so will be sorted through him) the photo booth was included in the price of the photographer and the Ferris wheel was part of a deal with the chair covers etc. At the end of the day a wedding is about witnessing two people who love each other making a life long commitment, it is about celebrating a relationship there is no need to add all the frills to it, so do what you can afford, what makes you happy

Mrs D2B we are getting married NYE 2016 :)
We are having a caricaturist at the drinks reception to keep everyone entertained while we have our photos done, then we are having a photo booth, choc fountain, band and dj in the evening. Our reception sets off fireworks at midnight so that is an added bonus we don't have to pay for lol. We have about an hours turn around in the evening to set the room out again so we were wondering if we should do something then but decided in the end people might go off to freshen up and thats when the evening guests will start arriving so we will be greeting them.
It's really about you personally and what you want though. My OH is a very artistic person (as are his family) so thats why we are having the caricaturist. I love pictures and photo booths capture some light hearted fun memories.

Ticamis have you looked at DIY photobooth displays? If you look on P!ntr€St there are looooaddds of amazing looking ones that just need a nice space at your venue to be set up, and you can collect bits along the way and use a pretty backdrop? Shouldn't cost too much. But I would understand if you wanted to use a proper photobooth, as then it's all done for you! X

I really liked the idea of a prop wall photo booth and showed it to my future father-in-law (who luckily is handy with tools and is a keen photographer) who has said he'll take it on as a project.
There is also an old, turfed BMX track at our venue so we are planning to rope off a part of the circuit to race remote controlled F1 cars around, as we both love formula 1 :) We'll have a chalk board for people to record their lap times over the evening.
I am hoping to have Pimms and Canapes served in a lovely garden for when guests first arrive at our reception venue and to give us time together and to have some photos done. I am currently at uni doing a degree in primary teaching so going to enlist some of the girlies to put together some activities and watch over the children's table for me.
Going to come up with our own playlists, easy listening to play during the meal and then a party list for the evening, hopefully we'll be able to use the venue's sound system and lights for this. Will obviously have a guestbook of some sort as well, plus some picnic benches, fairy lights and possibly a fire pit for outside.
I do worry a little about the cost of everything but if we get things at bargain prices and save over time it should all be fine.

We're having quite a bit; dj, photo booth, sweetie Ferris wheel, 8 lane giant ***sc@13ltr1x tournament .. Inflateable tw1st3r just to make me pmsl then we were going to have fireworks but I think we've now decided to change that idea to buying every guest a Chinese lantern to set off at sunset for a more interactive option and we will get some fab photos

Beware of Chinese lanterns Becci93, a lot of places now will not let you set them off as they are so hazardous especially in farm areas as they harm animals and have been known to start fires.

Yeah we were a bit hesitant at first but I commute down that way for work quite a bit and I have a good look everytime I go to double check that there's nothing they could affect when they land but we're lucky that at the moment they are just resting fields :)

We started off saying we were having no extras as we needed to keep costs down. Our venue supplies you with a candy cart, I really wanted a photo booth but decided against it due to cost however my sister has offered to get it as a wedding present so we are having one after all. We have also booked someone to sing in e foyer whilst we are getting photos done, oh knows him so got mates rates. We are also having a band and dj at night but was having them anyway

I love sweet carts but thunk it's wise to steer clear of lanterns due to various reasons, one being that after they have landed animals quite often try and eat them and die and they can travel miles and are a big fire risk- there was a massive fire caused in a recycling plant in bham due to them.
CommentAuthorBecci93
We've done our research and got permission to have them. Like I say there's only resting fields for miles and miles around our venue and there's not even hay sheds. If they were that bad they'd have been banned - I know of a few fires caused by them and yes - I have seen an awful injury to a horse caused by a lit one landing on its back. Hence why we did lots and lots of research first and checked with all the local farmers.
CommentAuthorJulieB11
We are having a singer during the photos and canapés. We've found one who does all the rat pack songs which we love. Other than that nothing really. I thought about a photo booth but OH hates them for some reason, still can't figure out why, I don't think he knows really he just doesn't like them. We thought about a sweet cart but with the canapés, sit down meal and hog roast In the evening it seemed like a lot of food.
