Found some more bridesmaid dresses that I really like - they are from a UK based seller rather than China, yippeee! They are £65 each but plus £15 for a different colour and plus another £25 to have them custom made. Thinking it would be best to compare my bridesmaids' measurements to the measurements of the standard sizes given and see if it would actually be worth spending an extra £25 per dress for custom sizing. They have looooads of colours to choose from and can order swatches at £2.95 each, so not too bad. Might order some swatches in the new year and have a look.

I still like some previous dresses I found on a China website but would get them made by a UK dress maker if I went for them. She who can't be named has sent me some material swatches but struggling to get the right shade of blue.. apparently she doesn't have a baby/sky blue :/ the first one she sent me is too dusky compared to the other shades and the second one she sent is definitely more green than blue and far too similar to the mint green!

Got a while to think about it, but thinking maybe I need to compromise a little on the actual dress in order to get the exact colours I want, which I think is more important.

Just realised, the company's website I just came across where I found the new dresses has a showroom in London. Might be good to have a day trip with the girls and go and try them on to get a better idea of the sizing :-) they only have the standard colours in stock but they have a book of material swatches you can flick through so that would be handy to have a look at rather than relying on pictures on the internet due the colours varying on the screen etc.

I started off with sky blue in my head for my bridesmaids, and ended up going darker. I was forced into a quick decision when I found that the dress I wanted for my three older bridesmaids was being discontinued. I was planning to put the teenagers in something different and my MOH was going to make them. I decided to play safe, and rather than ordering a sky blue and trying to match it later, ordered Mediterranean blue and decided the teenagers would be in a different colour, but with accessories to match so there was unity. Further down the line I ended up matching them all in the same colour anyway, and having pale flowers. The darker blue looked really good.

It's just that I'm having three other colours, not just blue. They are all pastel shades and the blue looked really wrong compared to the other colours. For me the colours are more important than the style because the pastel colours are a main part of our theme! Xx

    Hi Flossie,
I haven't read the whole feed but wanted to say my wedding is planned for the 9th of June 2016 and you are a million miles ahead of me! I came on here looking for ways to keep occupied and proactive while still 2 years off the wedding - ha! We are still very much in the saving saving saving stage as our families are huge and we have 450 guests to feed!

We're going for a vintage chic feel and are still not 100% on colour scheme. I'm an Event Manager myself but this whole thing is getting the better of me!

I'm in South London myself (just moved from East London)

Anyhoo, just wanted to say well done, I'm in awe!

Hi Mel! Lovely to have another June 2016 bride on the forum! You still have pleeeenty of time though so don't worry.. I think we have been a bit ahead of ourselves but I wanted to get the 'bigger' things booked earlier and then worry about the rest of the details a bit later on. In the new year it will be all systems go I think :-) we still have a lot to save as well though, but hopefully buying and paying for things a step at a time will make it easier and more affordable!

Wow, you have so many guests!! Are you have the whole three course wedding breakfast and an evening buffet, or are you doing something different food-wise to save money?

I think if that's your job it's probably a lot easier to organise things for other people than it is for yourself! You probably see so many different ideas that I can imagine it can get quite confusing when it comes to yourself! xx

OH went and paid in our coins into the bank this morning and I have just transferred it over to my ISA. Most of it is his tips from work and we saved £760 in just over 3 months :) I've also saved about £600 myself out of my wages. On top of what was already in the ISA, we now have just under £2100 at the mo :) aim is to save at least £3500 next year (hopefully - assuming nothing goes disastrously wrong), and continue buying bits and bobs out of our wages. Looking good at the mo :)

Wow you are doing so well with your savings! I'm sure you can do it, we have started putting any spare change we have in a jar as well as OH's tips and it is adding up! If you have saved that much already £3500 is totally do-able! :) x

It is surprising how quickly it adds up. I've been putting bits and bobs in the jar when I can but for the past few months I have been transferring £150 across to the wedding fund as soon as I get paid otherwise I know I probably wouldn't do it lol. Should be doable.. hoping for more than that, but if we have £5500+ with still 6 months to go until the wedding then we will be in a great position :) starting to feel real now the pressure is on to really save! x

I know now that it's 2015 it seems so much closer! OH wasn't saving at all but now he has told me he is going to put an extra £100 in my bank a month for me to put in the ISA so as well as my £100 we will be in a much better position! Finally he has realised we need to save haha! We need to pay half of our venue cost in October so we are trying to save at least £1000 by then so that we can pay that and have money for other things, it looks much more doable that it did but I feel like we have to have it now haha!

That is a great amount to have by then and with still time to save more :) will you need much more than that? x

Next on the list is putting down a deposit for the cake and flowers.. probably do that around March/April time when all the things I need to pay for over the next couple of months are out the way! Then I want to sort bridesmaids dresses out around June/July time, so same sort of time as getting my dress. Also want to order a silver sample of the ring I'm looking at in the next few months and if I like it will get that ordered. All exciting stuff!!

In my head I've got £6k as the figure we'd need to hit to cover everything, but realistically I don't think we will need any more than £5.5k, maybe even less. We have already paid £1k deposit to the venue, but my parents are being amazing and picking up the venue bill which will be about £5k, my dad is paying for the photographer and my mum is buying my dress - she also wants to pay for our honeymoon but I want to put any money we get given towards that. If we had to do it all on our own there is no way we would be getting married in 18 months time lol. OH's mum also has a little savings pot on the go for us which I really didn't expect her to do.. I think she wants to buy OH's suit but not sure if she realises how expensive his suit is going to be...!!

It is hard knowing everything you have to pay for and knowing you don't have the money yet! I struggle with waiting for things.. when I want something sorted, I want it sorted NOW haha x

Wow you are well on track then! If you have 6K in your head it will be nice if things do come under that and if you have spare money you will feel so relieved :)

We are exactly the same, my parents are paying for half of the venue, cars and our honeymoon and without that there's no way we would be able to get married so soon!

Can't wait for that satisfied feeling!

I know we've got enough at the moment to cover the final balances for the registrar, DJ, harpist and magician which are the "big" things. Like I said, my dad is paying for the photographer, mum for my dress and both of them are picking up the venue bill, so we've got the 'spine' of the day in place already. If anything did go drastically wrong savings wise then it wouldn't be the end of the world. Everything we save now is just luxuries really! x

Wedding rings ordered! Went and tried mine on today before ordering online - got 15% off online which took it from £550 to £467.50, then a further £20 cash back through a cash back site, so saved about £100 :) should be ready to collect within 5 working days!

OH also got in the mood to ring shop and ended up putting a deposit down on one :) very exciting!!

Kind of relieved that something so big is all sorted this early as its less to worry about. Now we can stop guessing how much we would spend on rings and get on with saving up for the rest of the day.

Pics are in my album :) x

That is a lot for a naked cake, I have been quoted £219 and that is for a 3 tier, fully iced cake with sugar roses. I would of thought £100 - £150 would be the average for naked cakes including set up x

    I know, super speedy!!

My mission for today is get as many cake quotes as I can. Have asked the fb and tw1tt3r world for recommendations for cake makers so hopefully get some names that I haven't already come across already. Holding out for no more than £200 but of course would ideally like it to be less!!

Not starting trying on dresses until June time this year.. next on my list is get the cake sorted and the flowers but got lots to pay for this and next month so might have to wait a few months x

Artificial flowers are great, I went for them too. It means they don't have to be done last minute, and you can keep them afterwards. Good luck with the cake.
