If you want to make your own wedding stationary, is it better to go to a wedding fair for ideas or a craft fair? What I had in mind was getting some nice paper / card cutters and maybe some small embossing thingies for pressing a design onto the cards. I don't know whether wedding fairs have these kind of things, or if they are more about the dresses and table decorations etc. Can anyone help?

Those type of things would be more crafty I'd think, try the hobby of craft store - went to a wedding this summer where the order of service had a decorative hole punch on the edges, looked really effective! The bride told me she'd practically become a shareholder of the H craft store which is how I know where she get her stuff!

Thanks for your input. What does "H" stand for? You can post it on my wall if posting it here breaches forum rules :)

Haha I'll put the name of the shop on your wall for you - also if you're going to a wedding fair anyway there will be people advertising making stationery for you so get some ideas from their displays or check out wedding magazines or blogs, lots of ideas all over the place!
just sent a friend request, you need to accept before I can write on your wall but basically it's the same store I mentioned earlier in the post :-)

Thanks for the friend request - I accepted it :)

Thanks Kate, I'll make a mental note that I probably need a glue gun :)

:) you don't have pets do you because you'll have to lock them out the room otherwise if you have cats like mine you'll see one of your invitations heading down the stairs, into the garden and sat on

I do have a cat...hmmm I wonder how I can combine fur into the design of the cards and make it look like it was supposed to be like that.

regarding the glue gun, surely that's just as messy with all the strings it creates? Surely spray mount is the way to go? That's what I'm planning to use as it can be readjusted easily enough and it doesn't leave any marks at all. It's a bit more expensive but IMO it's worth it. xx

I've heard glue dots are a lot easier to use and less messy :-)
CommentAuthorBridezilla
What's a glue dot, and how does that work?
CommentAuthorEmbbem-MrsW
the glue dots are great. they're little dots of glue that you use to stick rhinestones and stuff with it's super sticky i just stuck a stone to a piece of paper to see how good it was and i can't get it off so it clearly works! cheap too i've got 3 sheets with about 50 dots each on for about a quid! you should be able to get them from any sort of crafty shop like h.craft.
I also have cats...well a cat and a kitten and i'm seriously contemplating tying him up outside while i make my invites. he attacks everything that moves!!!!!
I must be crazy giving myself only 6 months!

If they are super sticky, how do you get them off the backing and into the right spot without them getting stuck to your fingers? Is there a special tool or something?

glue guns are only as good as the person using them. I didn't really make a mess after the first one because I got use to using it. Like with any crafty thing always make a trial so you know what you doing, and even plan right down to where your putting things. For the table plan I cut out the shapes of everything, put the decorations down and took a photo on my phone for future reference :)

I have been doing craft stuff for a fair few years but a glue gun in my hands is still a dangerous weapon! For my invites I used glue dots for small embellisments, thin double sided craft tape for inserts and any larger items that need sticking.

I just used good old fashioned prix stick for the inserts to the invites that was messier than the gun
