Hi, i found my dress and paid a deposit of half back in November. I told the bridal store that I would be losing weight throughout and I was assured that the type of dress I have "can be taken in and in". They ordered the dress in a 1" size smaller.
So since then I'm close to a 3st loss and I've lost 8inches from my waist and 6inches off my bust.
The dress isn't due in until May and I was concerned that I really didn't want to take lots and lots off the dress so I phoned the bridal store today and had a terrible response!
I explained that since my last fitting I had lost 8inches from my waist and was met by a gasp from the store assistant. She went on to tell me that the designer would not be willing to change the size that was order at all. Does it really take five months to make a dress?
I am now concerned that by May this dress is going to be huge on me despite telling the bridal store that I had not only lost weight but was planning to lose more.

Any advice or help would be really greatly appreciated x

Hmmm-although you told them in Nov you were wanting to lose weight-they did then only order it 1 size smaller.

November was 4 months away so it was a long time ago the dress was ordered. Dresses can be taken down 2 or 3 sizes though, how many sizes are you wanting to lose? When do you get married?

I did ask them if I can order a smaller size but they have me the "a dress can never be taken out" speech along with assurance that the style of dress can be taken in and in.
But the response I got today has worried me. I wonder if the dress can really be taken in and in.
I'm not really looking to go to far in terms of weight loss. I started as a high street 18 and I'm now a comfy 14. I think a twelve would be realistic.

So did you order a 16? (or the equivalent of a high street 16?) if so I would not worry as dresses can def be taken in 2 sizes. Does your dress have a corset back as well?

I can understand how your worried after that call, but I wouldn't worry until your dress comes in and you've tried it on and had a final answer. I honestly think it won't be a problem, but worrying about it now won't help either way. Try and keep occupied with other aspects of your wedding until your dress comes in?

Well no, they've actually ordered me a bridal size 22 which I believe is a high street 18?
I just hoping that it can be taken in, I have a great seamstress at the ready anyway.

I just don't understand how they can't change the size with the designer I guess.

Sorry Donna, it isn't a corset back it's a zip. The dress is short and flares out at the waist.

Oh, sorry I thought you said they had ordered a size smaller... I would be tempted to complain, as you asked them to order a smaller size and they advised it could be taken in.

They won't be able to change the order as it may already be going through, although it's still a while until your dress comes into the shop-the order was put in 4 months ago, which is quite a while, I'd be annoyed if they hadn't already started making the dress after ordering it 4 months ago.

It should be fine to get altered, it will just be a bit more expensive than normal alterations. Did you speak to the person who is going to actually do the alterations or someone else?

It was sheer luck I was able to change my order to 3 sizes smaller as the designer was making a small size for stock anyway so I will get that one and my original one will be stock instead.

When is your wedding?

Is it possible you could pop back to the shop, have them measure you & then have a chat. It is usually possible to take a dress in up to 3 sizes, so if you do get to a 12 it should be do able, or it might be a case of the shop saying you need to stop losing weight.
