Ive just booked the ramside Hall, Carville :) Ermmm.... Seaham Hall (pretty expensive though), the black horse, beamish, Crook Hall Gardens, Beamish Hall, Hall Garth Manor, Marriot Hotel, Durham Castle would be a great idea for the Halloween theme, but I think its 1000 to rent out.

Have a look round wedding fairs as they usually alternate each fair between venues

Masonic Hall in Durham - they have a website if you search for them.

radison? a friend of mind had his there.. check of places u wudnt expect. my venue(atm) is martinos in seaham but having a bit trouble and they seem more bothered about refunding us and giving our date to someone waiting so we are looking at another venue tomorrw night. our budget is small so we r very limited :-( x but the room is lovely just a few issues with their peterlee pub has caused them to grt on the defensive and instead of offer appology and reasursnce that thw weddin b fine they givig ab ooen window till end of nov for a full refund.
which is making me now want to look elsewgere haha

How far out from Durham are you willing to travel? Our venue is booked at Middleton Lodge which is in Richmond. I don't know if that is too far for you, but it is an amazing venue which I personally think is great value for money. It is a country manor house with a large spiral staircase, with a wooden pagoda type thing outside for if you want to get married in the grounds (weather permitting) and a large marquee with proper toilets (not portaloos) and has anything I could have asked for. They do the catering etc. so you get everything in one. I think it would be a lovely place for a nightmare before christmas theme as it is set in gorgeous grounds which is far back from any civilisation and is surrounded by quite a bit of woodland x
