It has been very frustrating lately. We are supposed to be having an engagement party on the 20th of July and let people know about 6 weeks in advance so they had plenty of time to book days off e.t.c. We sent out official invites as well and told people to let us know by today - the 8th.

Well some people couldn't come and let us know near the start as they were in places to far away to travel for one night.

Now my cousin has dropped out as she has to move but that is understandable I guess. Now other people are working and can't come but what is the most annoying is people that said they were coming like h2b's brother and just today dropped out...

Feel like cancelled it; already spent £100 on food and then £100 on the DJ... :(

I would only consider cancelling if the majority of the guests started pulling out... don't let afew drop outs ruin it for you

don't cancel and enjoy your night :)

Don't let people ruin it for you - enjoy your night and just look at it like this - use it as a trial run for your wedding - remember if they can't attend your engagement without a valid reason would you really want to invite them and spend more on them at your wedding??

That is a true point Kelly; some people had a legit reason but the other people dropping out didn't - having to work...could have booked the evening off or do an earlier shift as they had loads of notice.
    And thanks Velcro too :)

Having to work is a legit reason hon im sorry but that's not a kind thing to say there may be people on holiday (it's apparently summer!)... People's own lives will always come first to them, that's life unfortunately....
Just enjoy it with people who do turn up...

I'm sorry hun but I do have to agree with LMC, work is a legit reason to not be able to come, maybe other people had already booked time off and they were told they weren't allowed to have time off too and were told they need to work it? Just enjoy it with those who do come hun xxx

I wouldnt cancel hun just think the few that have dropped out means theres more food for everyone else, less people to get drunk and fall out, more seats for people to mingle etc dont be disheartened hun x

I tried to arrange an engagement party but my cousins started dictating to me where and when it should be so I didn't bother.. Basically, I wanted an adult night, no children and non of my cousins would come if they couldn't bring kids.. I agree with the others, don't let a few ruin your whole night.. The people that really care will be there with you xxx

Yeah thanks guys and yeah I guess working is a legit reason; it just feels like they had so much notice so thought they could of booked it off but I guess you're right when it just might not have been possible.

Probably just letting it get to me as being a bit down with holidays blues and no one giving me the chance to show them how good I could be at that company :(

Im glad you have deciced to carry on, you will have a great night and the people there will be the poeple who really make an effort and you will have a great night!! At ours, we had at least 15 people who said they were coming just not show up on the night, with no text/call anything to let us know!! One was the best man!!! (he has been forgiven by OH but not by me!!!) and tbh, apart from the BM, noone was missed until the next day when we were like oh so and so wasnt there...needless to say they arent getting invited to the wedding lol....engagement parties are great as a little rehearsal wedding guest list lol xx
